What a fantastic scene you have described here in the barn... You imbue the calving with such tension, I was reading with bated breath. And moving the story on in terms of the growing respect between uncle and nephew. Amazing writing. I'm enjoying this story so much.

There is just so much to love about this chapter. Vic being his usual enlightening self, Emmett just on the horizon of this story, and Brian delivering the calf was sure to open his eyes and his heart in many new ways. Lovely chapter. :]
Author's Response: Thanks, Sweetheart! It's so good to have you reading and reviewing again.:) And yes, Emmett will be making an appearance in the chapter I'm working on right now. Brian and his uncle are slowly growly closer together, and yes, Brian's life there will not only change him but others are well. Thanks so much for all the comments, Tina. *Hugs* ~Kim

Yay! Brian saves the day... and the calf! Great chapter. I enjoyed the talk that Justin had with Vic and Brian's unexpected bonding experience with his uncle.
BTW, I wanted to let you know that while I am enjoying your story immencely, every chapter reaffirms my love for city living. A country girl I am definitely not. LOL!
Can't wait for the next installment.
Cheers,
Vin
Author's Response: Hi, Vin! Nice to hear from you, my dear friend.:) I hope all is well with you and hubby. Thanks for reading and for the comments; I don't think I would do too well with delivering a calf, either - ha! I'm glad you're enjoying the story, though. I'm working on the next chapter right now, and I'm glad to report that the boys are back together in this part. You'll never believe what Brian is up to right now, though! I hope you'll like it. And I hope you and I get to see each other again soon - I'm suffering from Randy play withdrawal! Take care and keep in touch.:) *Hugs* ~Kim

It's a good thing Justin has Vic and I hope the two of them can figure out a way to help his predicament.
Brian birthing that calf was brilliant. He may make a farmer yet.
This quiet unassuming story is still very much a delight. Thank you for the update.
Author's Response: Hi, Sandra; what lovely comments - thank you so much, my friend, I really appreciate that. I thought the birth of the calf was a good way for uncle and nephew to bond, and for Will to see that there are some good qualities in his nephew. I'm well into the next chapter right now, and there will be a lot going on in that part, with several doses of jealousy mixed in involving several of the characters. Thank you again for all your support, Sandra; I am very grateful for that. My stories on LJ are getting so few comments lately that I'm considering not posting over there anymore.:( But that makes your comments, as well as the other readers on this site, all that much more appreciated. I hope I can continue to write stories that you will enjoy. *Hugs* ~Kim

Yeah!! I have been a patient girl waiting for updates. It's here!! Happy dance!!! As I have said before this story takes me back to my childhood and roots.. I remember my gramps delivering 'BABY COWS' as I used to call them. He helped deliver foals and lambs also. I love this story so much. Still waiting for a roll in the hay Ha! Maybe the social will somehow help this happen-especially if they have some of the 'special' punch. I love that Em will be coming to visit-that should ad a little spice to the story. c ya l8er!
Author's Response: Hi, Kym! Your lovely comments made me very happy, my friend; thank you for the feedback.:) I'm so glad that you're enjoying this story, and I do apologize for the rather lengthy wait (at least lengthier than normal, anyway). My teaching is definitely slowing me down, but rest assured I WILL keep working on it, especially since we're just now getting to what I would consider the meat of the story.:) Pardon the pun - ha!
I'm working on the next chapter right now, and the two boys will most certainly be featured together. Not sure if I can promise you the much-anticipated 'roll in the hay' just yet, but I think there will be some parts that you will like anyway (wink, wink). Thanks again, Kym! I should have the next part posted fairly soon. *Hugs* ~Kim

Go Farmer Brian! I myself grew up in the country so I know how tough it is to midwife for a cow. At least he didn't have to do his part in the middle of the night in January when the temp is below zero - which seems like when all our livestock always wanted to go into labor. Now, onto more B/J action, please. TAG
Author's Response: Hi, Tag! Thanks for reading this latest chapter and for the comments, my friend. That DOES sound very frigid to me, so I guess it could have been worse.:)
I'm working on the next chapter to this right now, so it shouldn't be too long before I post it; and yes, the boys will be back together in that one, so hang on, I'm working on it.:) Brian's about to discover the joys of some good, old corn liquor - LOL! Thanks again for the feedback, Sweetie; I do appreciate it. *Hugs* ~Kim

Nice long chapter. Brian birthing a calf-that is one for the books-but at least it brought them somewhat closer. Waiting for Em to arrive and the long awaited for social. Should be a hoot with Em there. Love him so much!.. Sorry to give you some upsetting news, but our ( THE PEEPS) life is just one bad thing after another. Nonie had a mild heart attack. She is ok now, but still in the hospital recovering. I'm going to take her home with me when, she is able to leave. I don't want her to be alone in her recouperation. When I am working our friends will take turns staying with her. I feel so bad she has had more than her share of pain and grief lately. It is finally taking a toll on her. Don't mean to be maudlin but thought you might want to know as you are like a family member to us all. lol
Author's Response: Hi, dear friend - wow, what else can go wrong? I'm very sorry to hear about Nonie, but glad to hear it was a mild one and that she is recovering. Please send her my best and tell her that I will be thinking about her. I know she will be in good hands with you and the peeps, though. I still believe that some things happen for a reason, and that's it not an accident that you are all out there together to sustain and support each other. I know that with the deep friendship and love that you all have for each other that you will be able to overcome whatever comes your way. Good things are coming for all of you, I just feel it.:)
Please tell everyone I said hello and that I consider it a great honor that you consider me part of the 'family.' That means more to me than any review (although those are great, too.:)). I imagine, BTW, that Lee is absolutely fascinated with the election going on; Ohio has been extremely popular lately (to our chagrin - I can't wait until all the commercials and robocalls stop!!).
I'm working on the next chapter of this story right now; Brian's about to discover the joys of corn liquor - ha! Take care and give everyone my love out there - and an extra hug for Nonie.:) *Hugs* ~Kim

Great chapter, looking forward in what happens next with Brian and Justin.
Author's Response: Thank you, Lynn; I'm working on the next chapter right now, and it will be more what the readers are no doubt looking for - more B and J together. I should have it posted very shortly. Thank you for being such a faithful reader of mine and being so supportive.:) *Hugs* ~Kim

This is such a beautiful, gentle fic.
Love it!
Author's Response: Hello, my friend; what a lovely compliment! Thank you for reading and for those encouraging words; I really appreciate that. Sometimes I feel like I go TOO slowly, but I can't seem to write any other way, so I am delighted that you are enjoying the pace of this story. I am working on the next chapter right now, and it will have much more of Brian and Justin together. Thank you again for taking the time to leave me feedback. That means the world to me.:) *Hugs* ~Kim

I learnt something today; the difference between a cow and a heifer. Thank you. Don’t forget you promised a little moonshine with that Sunshine. I love the way we still haven’t found out about Dale. LOL I hope Em makes a play for Justin then both Brian and Jared could be jealous. Jared because he secretly loves Em’s attention or he still wants Brian. Maybe he thinks Em is cute always following him around. Oh wait that’s another story. LOL. I’m loving this and can’t wait to the next chapter.
Cheers
Author's Response: Hi, my friend! Thank you for your ongoing support of my story (and my others as well); I really appreciate that, Flossee.:) The things I have to research for my stories - ha!
The 'moonshine' is coming up in the next chapter - promise! Once again, I got too wordy to include it all in this part, but I will be updating this again before I move onto another story. BTW- You're kind of on the right track regarding Emmett - there will definitely be a lot of jealousy to go around coming up soon (whether warranted or not). Thanks again, Sweetheart, for the comments and for all the support; you're very kind.:) *Hugs* ~Kim

Oh it's going to be fun having Emmett around.....although Jared might run for the hills screaming lol.
Will and Brian definitely had a unique but rewarding bonding experience. I do believe they are starting to have a greater appreciation for each other.
Brian is still desperate to find out what really happened to Dale and while Justin doesn't want to be the one to give him the details, he may not have much choice.
I can't wait to see what happens at the town social. Update soon please JP
Author's Response: Hi, Tamara! Glad you're still enjoying this story! I feel bad that I can't update as quickly as I would like, but the full-time teaching is really slowly me down right now! But be assured this one and all my others will continue to be updated until they are finished.:)
Yes, Brian and his uncle are slowly warming up to each other; and Justin will have to be the one to finally fill in the missing details regarding Dale's death. I suspect that will happen in the next chapter. The town social should be quite interesting, but not before a brief 'interlude' between the boys first involving some moonshine and some cows (NOT heifers - LOL!).
I will update this again very soon - thanks again for all the support, Tamara; I really appreciate that. *Hugs* ~Kim

Another great chapter poor Brian I can imagine his distress at having to put his hands up a cow's no sorry heifer's bottom lol.
Author's Response: Hi, Chris! Thanks for reading and taking the time to comment. Not any direct B and J interaction in this one, but it's setting the stage for a lot of that to come in the next chapter, which I should be posting within a few days. And yes, make sure your bovine terminology is correct - ha! The things I have to do in the name of 'research' - LOL! Thanks again, my friend, for all your support. *Hugs* ~Kim

Well I can tell you've been hanging out in the barn. One practice I worked at was Large and Small animals. I didn't do any on the farm work but I often answered the phone when farm calls came in. We had some clients that were very modern farmers and others that were much more old fashion type. One call I took was from a very old guy he send send the vet, got a cow here who cast her withers....WTH did that mean. Good thing our regular large animal guy knew, she has twisted her stomach, usually called displaced abdomen. But my best one was the guy who I'm sure had a mouth full of cud in his mouth when he called. I was sure he said, first grass heifer needed help, actually calling about a first calf heifer in the same situation as Checkers. No one let me forget sending them out on a first grass heifer... I can't wait to see how exciting things are going to get once Em arrives. Will me make a play for Brian...Or lure Jared into the deep part of the lake and drown him...I can't help it, I have to try and get rid of that lazy bum. I can't wait to hear what happens at the town social. I hope Justin isn't too sore from all the rough racing action, if only he knew of a person with strong hands to massage his pain away...purely medicinal reasons you understand, of course full naked massages are the best...medical medical ok a little just cuz it feels good... Lori
Author's Response: Oh, Lori, you crack me up every time! The tales you tell me about your work are pretty hysterical as well! You're kind of on the right track - there is going to be a lot of jealousy to pass around coming up in the next chapter, but not before a little more one-on-one time with the two boys that involves - wait for it - more cows! LOL! But none giving birth - perhaps a heart attack, but no calves (how's that for a teaser?). Em will definitely factor into what's going to happen, but he may be more of an unsuspecting pawn so to speak than a malicious instigator (unlike Jared).
I'll be updating this again very soon. Thanks for all the extremely entertaining comments, Lori! *Hugs* ~Kim

Brian, our hero! And gotta love Vic and his advice. He's what Justin needs for a father figure. I can't wait to 'meet' Em, too. Good stuff, my friend.
- Jackie
Author's Response: Thanks for the kind words, my friend. I always loved Vic's character and really hated it when they killed him off; I know Sharon Gless mentioned the same thing at the con. I don't think "Rage" ever envisioned himself as a bovine life saver - ha! I'll be updating this again very soon, and it will include a lot more interaction between our boys.:) Thanks again for all your kind words and the support. *Hugs* ~Kim

Hi Kim, I've been looking forward to this update, I think this is probably one of my favorite stories that you're currently writing. I can't help the feeling that True Blue had something to do with Dale's death since he was once owned by Brian's aunt and uncle.
LOL, loved the part when Will needed Brian's help pulling the calf, I could almost see Brian's eyes popping out of his head. Great update ~*~ Hugs, Janet
Author's Response: Hi, Janet! I'm so glad you're enjoying this story, my friend. I'm getting a big kick out of writing this teenage B and J story, and especially placing Brian so much out of his comfort zone.:) Rage to the rescue - ha! BTW - you're kind of on the right track regarding True Blue; there will be more of the explanation of Dale's death coming up in the next chapter, along with more cows! LOL! (No births again, though).. Thanks again for all the support; I really appreciate that. *Hugs* ~Kim
