I'm sure I've commented on this... somewhere. I feel moved to comment again anyway. The tone and feel of this is amazing. Your description of how Brian is feeling at the moment rings so very true. I especially like:
"The throbbing in his head has ebbed away, leaving in its wake a kind of dullness, like the mental version of a fading bruise."
because it so perfectly describes how it feels the morning after a bad migraine.
I love how this became, essentially, a song!fic, with that hymn perfectly bringing Brian to some very important conclusions. Beautifully written.
Author's Response: Hey there! Thanks so much for your wonderful review, and my apologies for the delay in responding (for some reason, I didn't get a notification you'd left this. *sigh*) In any case, I'm so thrilled that you enjoyed this fic. It's actually one of my favorite one-offs as well. I'm fascinated by the whole cancer arch, and I love the way that it made Brian, not weaker, but somehow more vulnerable. I'm not sure now why 'There is a Balm in Gilead' suddenly came to my head (I sing in a choir and we had performed it once or twice), but it seemed to fir well with the sentiments in this story arch. Thanks again for reading and for your lovely review!!

Wow.... brilliant. I was planning on writing something for when Brian had cancer, so this was an inspiring read. This was fucking excellent. You are an incredible writer.
Author's Response: Thank you! I'm so thrilled you enjoyed this ficlet. It's actually one of my personal favourites. I always loved the Brian!Cancer arc because of what it said about his vulnerability. I think he learnt a lot about himself. Thanks so much for reading, and for your wonderful comment. Made my day :-)

This is really nice; such picturesque and soothing words. I am almost yearning a Justin of my own everytime I'm sick.
Author's Response: I'm thrilled that you enjoyed this :-) The fact that Justin could be so much comfort to Brian without saying anything - without even having to know he was awake - speaks to the intimacy of their relationship, I think :-) It would be nice to have 'a Justin' there when we need him, I agree *g* Thanks so much for reading and for your lovely review!

This is just so beautifully written. Such a wonderful portrayal of Brian's thoughts. :)
Author's Response: Thanks :-) I'm really glad you enjoyed it. I always loved the cancer arch, and I wished canon had taken more time to explore how Brian was dealing with things internally. It would have been a great insight into his character. That's why it makes good material for a gapfiller, I guess :-) Thanks again for reading and for your lovely review *hugs*

Great story, well told with style and grace. I could just feel the pain Brian was in and the relief he felt when Justin entered the loft. A very moving story. Well done!
Lori
Author's Response: Thanks Lori :-) I'm really glad you enjoyed this story, and that you could 'feel' what Brian was experiencing. I've always loved the cancer arch because I think it tells us so much about who Brian is as a person. Thanks again for reading, and for your wonderful comment. It means a lot :-D

You really do have a beautiful writing style; it's very poetic and emotional. I always loved that tender scene when Justin was helping Brian remove his pants after they went to Babylon that night and then sniffled on his chest as his lover went to sleep; this story evokes a lot of the same emotions I felt then. Thank you for sharing this powerful story with us.
Author's Response: Thank you so much :-) I'm so thrilled that you enjoyed this. I've alsways loved the cancer arch for what it reveals about Brian - about how he has to come to terms with the fact that he is mortal, but that that's okay. People (specifically Justin) will love him anyway. And, like you, I love the tenderness it evokes in Justin - whether it is harsh (as in the chicken soup scene), or gentle (as in the scene you described). My one regret is that we didn't get to see more of it in canon. I think it could have said so much about Brian. But I suppose that's what we're here for ;-) Thanks again for reading, and for your wonderful comment. It means so much :-D

not only well written but the story makes my heart full
Author's Response: I'm so glad it did so :-) I just love the cancer arch because of what it reveals about Brian. My only regret is that we didn't see more of it in canon. I suppose we have to do what we can here ;-) Thank you so much for reading, and for your wonderful comment. It means a lot and I apprecaite it so much!

Words can not express how beautiful this is. Tears have been brought to my eyes.
Author's Response: I'm so glad you enjoyed this :-) There is a soft spot in my heart for Brian during the cancer arch. I wish canon had gone more in depth into his recovery - I think it could have revealed a lot about Brian's character. Thanks so much for reading and for your wonderful comment. It means so much :-)
