Great chapter! I was really happy to see Gus make an appearance -- I love seeing Brian and Gus interact and you did a great job writing the two of them together. Can't wait to see what happens next! :)
Author's Response: Hi, Kemma! Thanks for much for reading! I also really enjoy Gus and his dad together.:) Forgive me if I don't remember - if you wish and haven't done so, you might enoy reading "Stirring Up Trouble." There's a LOT of interaction between father and son in that story; in fact, Gus is the reason why Justin and Brian meet in the first place. It's fairly long but I had a lot of fun writing that one. Gus is also featured quite a bit in "Kinney Christmas Tree." Thanks again for reading this, Kemma - I'll be updating it regularly.:)

Oh My God! Update!
I'm really exited when I saw it!! ^^
I love this kind of story! Hope to read more updates soon!
Author's Response: Thank you for reading and for the review, Trin! I really am enjoying this premise of Brian being a detective and Justin as a haunted artist with psychic abilities - I think this fits their characters nicely.:) Don't worry, I do have a few WIPs going at the same time but I always update very regularly, at least normally with two weeks....as soon as I can put one of my other stories to bed (finish it), I should be able to update a little faster. Thanks again for leaving me your comments - I really appreciate that!:)

I feel bad for Justin, he's got a lot on his shoulders. The last thing he needs is Detective Kinney aiming the blame. Luckily he has Daphne and Jennifer in his life. This story is very intriguing, I'm anxious and a little worried to see what the killer has in store for Gus. I know you wont let too much happen to him though. :) Brian is going to have no choice but to put faith in Justin's gift. -Benny
Author's Response: Thank you so much for the review, Benny! I plan on revealing a little of the killer's motives in the next chapter, and Justin will experience another vision involving another victim. But will he be able to put two and two together before the little boy is hurt? Stay tuned - more angst and angles coming up! Thanks for reading - I'll get this updated just as soon as I can.:)
Reviewer: lindc (Anonymous) · Date: April 24, 2011 02:42 AM · On: Focusing On Priorities
getting interesting here girl. the back ground building is keeping everyone on edge. what's next does justin have another vision? if so hopefully it's before something horrible happens again--then brian will believe him and not suspect him. the content of this story is sad, but it happens quite often-some times just abuse, but when these precious souls end up with us it's very hard for us to get our heads around it. there are so many sickies out there and unfortunately our little ones have to suffer. this story going to be very rewarding i feel before it's over. keep up your wonderful writing. lol
Author's Response: Always so happy to hear from you! Hope you and the 'peeps' have had some rest by now. Been extremely wet here in Ohio - yuck! Just went through a tornado warning but no damage that I can see - just a lot of flooding around here. You're right about the story - Justin's about to have another vision shortly that will involve Gus. Unfortunately, though, he won't realize who it is until it's too late to keep Gus out of harm's way. But not to fear, he won't wind up like the others - thanks as always for your continuing support and kind words, dear - I really appreciate that so much!:)

Well, Detective Kinney deserved a clock across the jaw for his remarks about the bashing. :P Good for Justin to stand up for himself! (& Jennifer too, love her). Aw well, Brian always manages to say the worst possible things whenever he doesn't know what the heck is going on or what he's feeling. It's crazy how much I love this story at only four chapters. Such suspence wondering where it all will lead. :)
Author's Response: Yeah...why is Kinney always such a smart aleck when he's a detective in both our stories? LOL! I think he's mainly trying to convince himself that he doesn't trust Justin and is warring with that fact versus his adamant belief that there is no such thing as ESP. Of course, that may very well change when Gus is placed in danger. I will probably delve a little into the killer's motives in the next chapter when Justin starts to have some more horrifying visions. Thanks so much for reading and for your support, my friend - I am very grateful.:P)

I am very much enjoying how you are building the suspense on this story.
I am interesting to see where it goes in terms of the mystery side of things as well as how you might build the relationship between Justin and Brian.
Author's Response: Thank you very much for reading and commenting! I'm pleased you like the story. I think in the next chapter I plan to reveal just a little more about the killer himself and his motives to partly set up the drama to come involving Gus. Thanks again for leaving me your thoughts - I greatly appreciate that.:)

Ouch! Poor Justin! For Brian to just casually dismiss him like that and then bring up the bashing against him, I'd be pissed too! And as much as Brian was wanting to make sure Gus is safe, you'd think he'd be a little more receptive to anything that might help. But then, he wouldn't be the Brian Kinney we all know and feel ambivelent about! :)
Love as always, darling!
Author's Response: LOL! I always loved that line of Emmett's from the show! Thanks for reading and commenting - Brian will have to do an about face quickly once he finds out his own son is in danger - hope you'll stay tuned - thanks again!:)
Reviewer: kinnetic_bliss (Signed) · Date: April 23, 2011 08:39 AM · On: Focusing On Priorities
Ahhhhh, the plot does thicken. So distressing for poor Justin having to endure these visions, taking the huge step in revealing them to the one person who could help stop this monster only to not be taken seriously. That must be frustrating along with feeling trapped in a hopeless situation. And, I can understand where Brian comes from as well. Being a detective and seeing all the horrid things one sees in such a life makes it so you only believe the things that are right in front of you. Hopefully, they can work together before too many more tragedies occur. Great update!!
Author's Response: Thank you, my friend. I'm sure everyone's eager to get the boys on better terms but I don't think that would be realistic yet - they have a number of trust issues to work through first. But they will get there eventually. Thanks as always for the support - I appreciate that.:)

Author's Response: Thank you, Kim! I appreciate your kind words more than you know.:) I haven't forgotten this story, trust me....I am in the process right now of updating "Tender Loving Care," and then I have "Color Me Green." This one I believe is next up (sorry for all the WIPs - but I WILL update each of them regularly until they are finished!). I hope to get an update on this within a few days. Thanks again for reading and leaving a review - I really am grateful for that.:)
P.S. Brian IS a pain in he ass, isn't he? But he's perfect for the role and what a lovely ass it is (although not quite as good as Justin's -LOL!

I have a suspicion that this is going to be amazing. You're a very talented writer and this plot really appeals to me. Anxious to follow it.
Author's Response: Thank you so much, Rob! I really appreciate your confidence in me.:) I thought Brian as a cynical cop was quite plausible for him. And being an artist, Justin was a shoo-in for a psychic who draws his visions out - I have heard of those kind and thought it was a perfect fit. Thank you very much for reading and for the review - it's reviews that keep me motivated to continue writing. I will be updating this shortly - thanks again, my friend.:)

well written, exciting, interest grabbing
love the unique storyline, and while there is a certain predictability with Gus mentioned right from the beginning - and so often - this AU definitely has a new story to tell about our beloved guys, and of course, Daphne too...I like that!
I'm glad to hear that you are planning to update frequently, so I don't have to wait until it's completed to read - I am looking forward to seeing how this plays out!
Author's Response: Thank you so much for the kind words - I greatly appreciate that! Yes, I am anal about updating - and regularly - so do not fear; if you can handle reading it a little over time (about a week to ten days apart with each chapter normally), it WILL be updated regularly and it WILL get finished! And if I can (finally) get at least one of the other stories finished, it will get updated a little faster.:)

Interested to see this crime and relationship unfold. I'm definitely excited to follow this story with you. :)
Author's Response: Hi, Mandi! Always a delight to hear your comments! Thanks so much for reading this. Oh! No! This is a dreaded WIP!!!
Aaaargh! Why did I start reading this? I thought it was COMPLETED!!!
Now I am totally hooked, and for all I know, you won't update for month, or you'll abandon it, or god knows what else.
The story is excellent, the characterization great, good grammar, good vocab, great set up of ambience, excellent descriptions, I was really LOVING this. Now, I just want to pull my hair out. I HATE WIPs.
Author's Response: Thank you for the comments - yes, it is the dreaded WIP. But if it's any consolation, if you ask any of my readers, they know I do NOT abandon fics. Never have, never will! I actually have several going right now and they are ALL regularly updated. And by that I do not mean after several MONTHS or YEARS - they are normally ALL updated within a week or two, depending upon how RL interferes. I seldom have one of mine drop out of the "most recent" category, which means they get updated within 12 days.....so I hope that puts you a little more at ease.:)
That is one of my own personal pet peeves as well.....thanks for reading so far, and be rest assured, this WILL get finished - and updated - on a regular basis!:)

Excellent! Not laughable at all (at least, not in a bad way)! I'm really enjoying this story! A lot of people have written Brian as a cop or detective and for good reason - the man lends himself to that kind of job (and I love that he's working with Horvath - he was one of my favorite minor characters on the show). I'm waiting for more Brian/Justin interactions, so I can't wait to see what happens on their "date". Definitely keep writing -- I'm reading this and a few other WIPs you're working on. Author's Response: Benny, you're so sweet to leave me a review - thank you! Yes, I'm sure Brian's interest is strictly police business, don't you? LOL! Author's Response: Thanks, my friend! Brian will need some major convincing that Justin is legitimate before he begins to believe him; but when Gus is cast into danger, I think he will have to rethink his cynicism to help save his son. It should hopefully make for some real drama - thanks for reading and for leaving me the review!:)

I'm loving cynical-Brian. His suspecting Justin of being the killer--or at least knowing and helping him--will certainly pose a larger obstacle to true love than our boys usually have to face.
And why is it I suspect that sooner or later, Brian will have to trust in Justin's abilities in order to save Gus?
Author's Response: Thanks for the review, mysid! Yes, you are exactly right, in fact; I see Brian as remaining skeptical of Justin's abilities and total innocence regarding the actual crimes because of how much he knows; but I see him having to eventually trust and depend upon Justin in order to save his son from peril. So glad you're reading along - and I really appreciate you taking the time to leave me your thoughts. I have corrected Brian's title in the first chapter, also, BTW - thanks again for the assistance on that.:)

It's a great start, and I'm sure I'm going to like this one as much as your others.
One item confuses me. You said in your summary and in this chapter that Brian is a private dectective, but in this chapter, you make it clear that he works for the police (Carl's his superior officer, and Brian is allowed into a police crime scene). Private dectectives, by definition, do NOT work for the police; they operate idependently of the police and answer only to the clients who hire them. If you intend to have Brian be a member of the police department, perhaps he should be a police detective instead.
Author's Response: Thank you, mysid, for reading and for the review; and thank you for the clarification. I believe someone else may have mentioned that. I will go in and correct that as soon as I get a chance. I've not well-versed on police procedures so I wasn't aware of that. Thanks for pointing that out! I will be updating this soon.:)

Even though I am behind in my reviews, I could not pass up this one for one more day. This story is different from the others I have read of yours and reminds of the detective shows on TV. I can't wait to read the interaction between Brian and Justin. It will be interesting to read how Justin can convince Brian to believe him.
Author's Response: Thank you for taking the time to leave your thoughts! You're right - this one does veer off into a different path than most of mine. I wanted to explore Brian's great love for his son, however, and the thought of placing him in extreme danger intrigued me (not to worry, though, the little guy won't be harmed)..... Brian as a cynical cop and Justin as one of those psychics who expresses his visions through his art seemed like a perfect match for the two of them.:) I think it will take a while for Brian to begin to believe Justin, even though he will feel a pull for him. When his son winds up in danger, though, he will have to turn to Justin for help. As always, thanks for taking the time to read and review - so glad you'll be following along with this one!:)

God! What a story you're developing here! Poor children, and Justin being treated like that.... Damn! But I have to admit I would be rather skeptical and suspicious myself if it was my job. I'm really looking forward to the next update of your story!
Author's Response: Thank you so much for reading and the review, Jessikaa! I'm glad you're enjoying the story. Yes, I see a lot of tense drama with this one. I will be featuring Gus prominently in the story as it relates to his relationship with his father, who will find himself in a big dilemma as he gets caught between his initial skepticism of Justin's abilities and his intense desperation to find his son before it's too late. Glad you'll be following the story - thanks again for taking the time to review!:)

Wow an other great story ! It's difficult to wait the next chapter. I want more of it.
Author's Response: I am so pleased that you're enjoying this one.:) I promise to update it regularly and as quickly as possible. I think the police will be having a press conference in the next chapter and Brian will be visiting PIFA to check Justin out. I also foresee quite a bit of interaction between Brian and Gus soon. Thanks for much for reading and taking the time to review - I am so grateful.:)

I know police can be a little jaded, but jeez, Carl and Brian were kinda jerks to Justin. Poor Justin, I can imagine how hard that was for him, knowing no one would believe him or take him seriously (hence, Carl and Brian being jerks!) But that's totally realistic and I LOVE this story so far. God, something is going to happen to Gus, isn't it? Please tell me it won't take something that drastic to make Brian see that Justin was telling the truth.
Love it, bb!!
Author's Response: Thanks so much, Megan Rose! I thought this would be an interesting premise for an AU story without making them too much out of character.:) As for Gus, obviously he's going to factor into bringing B & J closer together but at the sake of giving away too much, he won't be harmed - maybe scared somewhat - but ultimately I certainly wouldn't kill him off! He'll turn out fine, but he WILL be a nice little plot device for me to take advantage of. Up next is for Brian to visit PIFA to check Justin out - and methinks he just might run into the actual suspect himself there. Thanks for reading and especially taking the time to review - I greatly appreciate that.:)

this is amazing. i just love this story, not the horrible stuff but the over-all premise. it's very different from your other stories. it's going to be long as these things take time. i just hope not too many more killings happen before they believe him. there has to be a break through to have the belief in justin to happen especially for brian. bb says each new story of yours is better than the previous one. rick doesn't really say too much as i read--but he is really into this one as he is a crime story addict. he said to give you a 20 rating. ha ha!!would that i could. lol
Author's Response: Hello, my dear! Tell BB I love him - and Rick, too - LOL! I'm working hard on another blue ribbon, hopefully.:) I know it's just symbolic and kind of like the kindergartner who gets one of those shiny gold stars for cleaning up their workspace or something, but they really mean a lot to me.:) Not allowed to do self-proproganda, though, although I admit I have been known to out and out grovel at times - LOL! Glad your group is liking this one. As for Gus, I'll be using him obviously as a means to get the boys closer together, but just like with the animals in the TV shows, he won't be harmed in the making of this story - ha! I think up next is for Brian to take a trip to PIFA to check Justin out. He may just run into his potential suspect there, too....hmm....stay tuned and thanks as always for the review!

great chapter,don't keep us waiting
Author's Response: Thank you for the review, my friend.:) I will be updating this regularly, don't worry. And the boys will be getting to know each other better in the future - they will be bound together (sorry, just figuratively at least at first - ha!) because of concern over Gus's welfare. Glad you will be following the story! Thanks again for reading.:)

Wow poor Justin it was so hard for him to face Carl and Brian and then to get shot down by Brian. I am glad he was able to show Brian he has depthsof passion and is not just a 'flaky artist'. I suspect eventually Brian will get to expereince the depths of another sort of passion lol
Author's Response: Ah, you're onto me, Chris - LOL! Stay with me, and I promise the boys will get to know each a LOT better - ha! Thanks for reading and for the review, my friend.:)
Reviewer: Marny (Signed) · Date: March 31, 2011 02:49 AM · On: Distrust Versus Conviction
This is a brilliant story, I'm so hooked. Tip: Brian must keep an eye on Justin day and night * giggles * . Then he sees that Justin didn't do it.
* hugs *
Author's Response: Oh, Marny - you have such a one-track mind when it comes to our boys and I LOVE it! LOL! I'm not sure his and Daphne's apartment is big enough for that man - ha! I'm so glad you're enjoying the story.:) Soon I think Brian's skepticism is going to give way to something a lot more urgent when his son winds up in danger.:) In the meantime, I'll try to find some way for the boys to "warm" up to each other, but I guarantee at some point it WILL happen - you know me! I would love to find a way to strand those two men together in a remote cabin somewhere just after a rainstorm - they would definitely have to remove all those wet clothes to get dry now, wouldn't they? LOL! Stay tuned - more drama and excitement is coming.:)

Oooh, update this one soon. I like psychic!Justin, detective!Brian.
Author's Response: Thanks for reading, Kate! This story's up next for update - I will be starting on it sometime today - hope to have the next chapter posted by tomorrow. I think this one will be a real nail biter - thanks for reviewing - glad you'll be checking in on this one.:)

OMG a new great story. I love detectives. Hope Brian don't suspect Justin! But that they immediately go in search for the killer.
* hugs *
Author's Response: Hello, friend.:) Yes, I think this could be an fascinating premise for them and make for some tense moments at first. I have a feeling that it's going to be inescapable that both Brian and Carl will have to suspect Justin at least initially because he will be too knowledgable about the situation. But gradually the skeptics will become believers and turn to him for help as the situation grows more desperate. Glad you'll be checking this one out, my friend.:)

ok you got me hooked AGAIN,looking forward to the next chapter'
Author's Response: LOL! Thank you, my dear! I think this will be an interesting plotline - I can definitely see each man in their respective roles in this story. I can certainly see Brian as a total skeptic when it comes to anyone with psychic ability. But what will happen when his own son is in danger? I'll be updating this one, as well as my other WIPs, regularly and I have this week off so hopefully it will even be a little faster.:) Thanks for the review and for letting me know you'll be following the story - I really appreciate that!:)

I don't know how you do it. Talks about prolific.
I like this Medium-like story and having Brian as a detective is always interesting. It's nice to see the boys in AU once in a while. I hope this is a long one. I have a feeling it's going to be a nice ride.
Thanks for making my day with a new story!
Author's Response: Thank you for the review - glad you like the first part of the story. Don't worry - I will be updating them regularly. (Four is about my limit, though - LOL!). So glad you'll be following this one. And yes, I see this one as a longer fanfic as opposed to the one with Chamberlain, although I AM toying with doing an epilogue to that story because I've had quite a bit of requests for it so stay tuned!:) Thank for reading and especially taking the time to review - that is so motivating to me!:)

Oh, God! You absolutely have to continue this story... I need to know what's going to happen!
Author's Response: Thank you, Jessikaa! So glad you like it so far. I will be posting new chapters regularly - glad you'll be reading it.:) Thanks for leaving me your thoughts!

A good mix of great characters, suspense and mystery.I'll be looking forward to the evolution of this story.Good job.

Wow, really chilling stuff, can't wait to read the next chapter! I'm afraid to say this but I've recently started to lose my taste for Queer As Folk but this seems to be bringing it back :)
Author's Response: Thank you for reading and for the review! Yes, I suppose the overall readership about the boys has waned somewhat now that it's not on TV anymore, but I discovered them later than most (on You Tube actually) and am still hooked! Thanks for giving this one a try and reading one more!:)

Wow this one is dark and delicious and I am as always your willing reader. Me thinks sparks will fly when Justin and Brian meet and Brian probably will jump to all the wrong conclusions lol xo Chris
Author's Response: Hi, Chris! Thank you as always for the review - you're so faithful doing that and I appreciate it more than you know.:) I think Brian will definitely find Justin intriguing as well as attractive - but at first he's going to be quite the skeptic about Justin's gift. And when Gus becomes involved I think his feelings will change dramatically from out and out suspicion toward Justin to more of a desperation for help (don't want to give too much away, but I'm sure you already guessed what direction this is heading anyway). Thanks again for reading and reviewing, my friend.:)

Oh, I love mysteries! This is a great scenario, and a great take on Brian's feelings as a father. Even on the show, as much as Brian said he was the "anti-dad", it was obvious he adored Gus.
Can't wait for him and Justin to meet.
Author's Response: Thank you for the review! I totally agree; I always adored Brian's scenes with Gus - his expression was so tender and his voice was totally different when he was around him.:) I think he would have continued to be a doting father throughout his son's life and I love exploring his feelings for his son. It will be interesting to see his reaction to Justin's "gift" when his own son is involved. Thanks again for reading and especially taking the time to review.:)

Wow! I don't know what I expected for you to come up with, but it most certainly wasn't this. A very interesting and original premise. I'm looking forward to seeing how this unfolds. And, I do love seeing Carl and Brian working together. I always wished they had more scenes together. As different as they are there is a good dynamic present. And, as always looking forward to Brian & Justin meeting. Most anxious to read more! =)
Author's Response: I know - I normally stay out of the more darker pieces, except for Double Jeopardy, of course...:) But the idea of Brian being totally in disbelief regarding Justin as a cynic, and being able to use his deep feelings for Gus as drama was too good to pass up.:) Thanks for your thoughts - we'll have to see where I run with it now!:)

this is so eerie. my mom and i had this before she died. i'd call her on the phone and before it rang she had picked it up to call me about the same thing i wanted to talk to her about. so i really do believe in esp. she said we were witchy(her words). i feel she was 100% right. this happened many many times. justin will be the key to them finding the killer. i am so tuned in to this already. so good u go girl. lol
Author's Response: You are so quick to find my new posts - I am so flattered, my friend.:) This one popped in my head and I had to write it down (even if I DO go crazy in the meantime! LOL!) I always liked Brian's relationship with Gus - he seemed like a totally different person around him. And I can just see Brian and Carl working together. So glad you'll be following along on this one. I promise not to neglect TLC or any of the other stories, though, and I promise to take good care of Gus (after I use him as a convenient plot device, of course....!).
