A fateful meeting during a sleepover when Brian and Michael are 16. Where or, rather, when did Justin and Brian really meet for the first time?

Brian and Justin meet as children and become best friends and, later, roommates. Mikey is their closest other friend, and they (Brian and Justin) are both secretly in love with the other. (This will be as much a story about friendship as it is about romance, so Brian, Justin, Mikey, Ben, Brandon, Em, Ted, and Daphne will all be friends and all the same age (21). Lindsay and Mel are friends, too, but older, about 30.)

17-year-old Brian lives by a different philosophy (one stemming from growing up around prostitutes), but just as strictly as canon!Brian: He wants a boyfriend, true love, and romance, but no Hallmarky bullshit. He wants something real. That something real turns out to be 29-year-old Justin, a prolific artist he encounters one fateful night in an alley on Liberty Avenue.

In a strange (but not so strange) world, Brian is a member of the ruling class (from the wealthiest, most noble family), while Justin is a poor commoner and an orphan (making him the lowest of the lower class). They fall in love. Will their love survive despite the many forces wishing to separate them?

In 2013, martial law is instituted in the United States, and gays, lesbians, and transgendered people, among others, are persecuted (more than they already are). That has terrible ripple effects for the rest of the world. 200 years later, Brian Kinney, who has been able to ‘pass’  (as a straight man), is given  command of a starship and ‘goes rogue.’ The gang will be part of his crew.

Justin and Brian break up before Justin goes to NYC. What will Justin do when he hears that Brian is engaged to another man?
