Story Summary: Brian tries to deal with issues of his past and how they are affecting his life now.

***Open Letter to Readers Posted!*

Spoilers: A chapter(s) reference to when Justin le** him for Ethan and other events throughout the series.

Out-of-Canon/What-If: In this story, Brian's father knew Brian was gay when Brian was in high school (if not before).  In later chapters, I may need him to be alive to have a confrontation with Brian, so for now I'll say he is not explicitly dead.

What if Brian realized what he was missing before the bomb? What if he changed just one thing, and that changed everything? The butterfly effect gone mad.

Canon thru 509(ish), right down to some of the scenes/dialogue directly from the show. Some just happen in a slightly different time line. A/U after that.

Warning: Major Character Death ~If you are wary of the death!fic warning, please, take a chance and have a look. Yes, it's a sad story, and the death is real (and devastating) but I promise you it is all about the B/J love.

I wish you well on your cancer journey. I discovered QAF after my cancer diagnosis, and what I have come to know as my summer of surgeries...when I spent most of my time in bed resting before starting my radiation treatments (August through Sept). My son had set up a TV on each side of my bed so I could flip over each time I got uncomfortable.....I had watched everything on Netflix, HBO, etc,,,,and was flipping through Showtime and discovered QAF...I would watch an episode, fall asleep, rewatch, fall asleep....etc....I swear I watched every show halfway through multiple times....LOL....then after radiation and continued chemo the brain fog set in and I couldn't read a book because the plots and characters would get all tangled in my brain (reading really is my favorite pass time not TV)....when somehow I discovered FANFICTION....never even heard of it before....This was my saviour....I could get lost in the stories for hours because I basically knew the characters, and the story lines more or less....so now almost 3 years with NED I am now hooked on Fan Fiction and still enjoy finding new stories when I need some escapism from the real world (ie COVID craziness). I wish you good health in this time of COVID and continue writing.....if you ever need a BETA reader let me know...I'm a teacher now, but started my professional life as an editor and would love to do something to give back to those who have given me hours of joy and distraction at a very difficult time of my life...

Keep writing.....

Enjoying the story...

Happy to beta for you...previous life I was a copy editor for a few years...teaching now...

email me...Taimipaadre@comcast.net...lets see if we can work something out..

Author's Response:

Thank you.  I've sent you an email.

Summary:

Brian contemplated what he wanted to say next; how personal he wanted to get. He still wasn’t sure whether or not Joan would hear a word of what he said -- she hadn’t reacted to anything thus far -- so maybe it was better to lay it all on the line. His lifelong mantra creeped back into his brain, and he scooted his chair a little closer to the bed. No apologies, no regrets.

--

Against his original plans (and, perhaps, better judgment), Brian makes his way back to Pittsburgh to see his mother one final time.

very touching and real. Having been through the dying process with several family members in Hospice care, the end can be very gentle and lovely. Please continue the story. The maturity of the characters is appreciated.

Author's Response:

I'm so sorry that my response is so belated. Thank you so much. There is another part that will hopefully be finished in the next couple days!
