I'm a true Jersey Girl at heart, born and raised at the shore, also raised my four kids here. I'm at that point in my life where all of the choices I make are mine. Guess I feel like I've earned it! I'm new to the whole QAF fandom, only recently discovered the series, (April 2017) To be honest, season 5 left me cold, I enjoyed it up to that point, ok minus the Ian thing! I just didn't get where the writers were taking B/J characters. I stumbled on QAF Fanfic and truth be told,  I'm enjoying it as much, at times even more then the show! Can't thank all of those that write these gems for us enough!! Looking forward to reading and enjoying all the writers send my way!!

I have just finished reading Timeless for a second time, if there was any doubt before there isn’t now, it is my all-time favorite QAF story!! I found it so compelling that after reading it for the first time a few months ago, I was drawn right back in, a true testament to the depth of the writing skills of the author! Cynical stayed true to the original characters, give great insight into who Brian was beneath all of the layers of “what you see,” showed the vulnerability of Justin being so young and how his lack of life experiences colored how he saw things and how he reacted, introduced us to many new characters to love. The use of vivid descriptions to set a scene was pure creative genius, it was like being taken on a visual vacation and dropped right into the setting!! The way a mood, a feeling, love, anger was infused in the eyes of the character left no doubt as to what they were conveying! The author also has the ability, in the middle of angst laden chaos, to deliver one line zingers that took me from crying buckets to literally laughing out loud  “You must be so proud…you fucked a Boy Scout.”

Oh, I want to retract my original statement that I wouldn’t want a sequel, who am I kidding…I would love one! I have since eaten crow (and humble pie) and would love nothing more then for this amazing adventure to continue. There are so many chapters that could be written; How our boys adjust to their lives together after all they have been through, does the house become a palace or a prison, how does the extended family deal with the new Brian, do they go back to their old ways of how they treated him, does Brian step back into being CEO at Kinnetik, what happens to Linz/Sharon, Hillard/Keller, Cynthia/Mathis, do they find happiness together, what happens to dear “sweet” Melanie, always want more Gus, would love a little(ok a lot) of McClaren/Liam hot togetherness, does McFed come back to try and stake a claim to Brian(without success)if so how would our little pitbull Justin handle it. I can only imagine!!

I know a lot of time, energy & research goes into writing an epic story like this, so if the itch ever strikes you to write a sequel, I hope you scratch it! I will forever be a faithful fan and reader!! Candy

Once a year I find myself drawn back to this superbly written story! Just finished reading Timeless for a third time and it is still my all time favorite story! In my book, it’s a Masterpiece!! The emotion is still palpable, the way the characters are written is so different, even knowing the outcome doesn’t make it any less enjoyable. What some readers may have missed is that this is a Brian story as seen through the eyes of the writer, it was her story to write and tell. Justin and the others were passengers on her story train, and after taking time to read most comments, to some degree I feel the criticism is why a sequel was never written. Sure we all need to have thick skin at times during our life but when you take time to put your heart into something, I’m sure it can be discouraging. I do think it’s ok to voice opinions but if the story isn’t your cuppa,  then don’t read. I apply that rule to each and every story I read, and I’ve read hundreds! Candy

I was captivated by this story, it was heartwarming to see Justin and Brian step up to the plate for Kai, and how they handled his addition to their family. I only discovered QAF show in spring of 2017, and quickly learned that while the show ended on a not so happy note, at least it did for me, so many writers have given us what Cowlip didn't!  I'm sure for writers like snow, who penned this a long time ago, they are surprised to find readers still enjoying their stories!  This was a terrific addition to my QAF favorite story collection!  Candy

I have so enjoyed the journey you have taken us on, the more I read the more I realize the story really is a special "present" to the readers. I adore Fin/Tony and what their characters have added, also a big thank you for staying true to Brian & Justin and not straying from the characters we all fell in love with!! Your writing style is so creative, I have laughed and cried many times then I can count!  I can't wait to start the sequel!  Candy

P.S. Your story is what pushed me to register on MW so I could let you know how much I enjoyed your writing!

Author's Response:

Hi, Candy! First of all, welcome to Midnight Whispers!  it sounds like you've been reading for some time, but the fact that you registered simply so you can leave me a review really made my day! I'm so happy that you enjoyed that story. I, too, really adore Fin and Tony's characters as well, and you will find in the sequel that they play a very dominant part, along with Brian and Justin.  I came to love those characters so much that it seemed like they had been there the entire time. The sequel is even longer than the first story, and I do intend to write a third story at some point where this sequel left off.   But just knowing how much you enjoyed the story really means a lot to me and is very motivating as a writer, so I thank you for not only registering, but taking the time to leave me a review. I'm honored that my story was the first one you chose to leave a comment for.  Thanks again for your support! I hope you continue to enjoy some more of my stories.  a86; ~Kim

I so loved this story! The 90+ chapters you gave readers in “The Wedding Present” & the sequel “My Hearts Desire” were like curling up with a favorite novel and being in QAF heaven! I love how you took Brian from being alone the end of the QAF Series and brought to life the Brian we knew was hiding beneath the surface.  And gave him the love of his life, Justin, and a well-deserved family! Can I just say how much I LOVE the new characters you introduced; Fin & Tony, who in one way mirrored Brian/Justin, but in another were so different, and loving Grandparents Sean & Kathy were delightful, and Alex, while young, I am sure she will show Brian many times over that he has met his match in his younger self!  And the special room…oh how I hope someday the muse will strike and you will fill that room with Justins Hearts Desire in a follow-up sequel!  He so deserves to see that Dream come true! Plus just think of the directions you could take the story…how do our boys cope with teenage PMS, their daughters first crush, the words drama queen could take on a whole new meaning!  Your Gus is beyond sweet, his loving way of seeing life and others makes him one special little boy!  Your eye for adding creative detail is one of many reasons why I enjoy your writing style, it adds so much to your stories, it brings them to life, and creates an actual visual for your reads.  So thank you for the many hours of enjoyment, I’m off to read “Taming a Wild Stallion.”   Candy

P.S. Would you possibly be interesting in posting some of your stories on Kinnetik Dreams facebook page, it is a closed group that has over 400 members and writers, it's a great place to share all things QAF! I know they would enjoy reading them as much as I do.

Author's Response:

Hi, Candy!  I'm so glad you decided to read both stories, and I'm thrilled by how much you enjoyed them!  Yes, there are several loose ends left that need to be explored yet, and I hope someday I can do that when things are not so crazy!

I'm delighted that you have decided to read "Tame the Wild Stallion" next!  Just like Fin and Tony, I grew to love Sarah and Will's characters in that story, and it, too, is full of ups and downs.  I do hope you enjoy it.  I certainly had fun writing it!

As for posting on other sites, I have been with MW for a long time now, and it predates the other site by several years, so I'm sure most of their readers would have already read these stories on here before. It is my home (I'm an admin on the site, also), and I am happy where I am.  I DO post on some other sites, but this is my primary one. Thank you for the suggestion, though.  MW also has a FB page that you might be interested in joining. We would love to have you as a member there.:)

Thanks again for becoming a member here so you could leave feedback on my stories!  I have enjoyed each word that you have written, and I hope you continue to enjoy my stories.  We will be totally revamping this site soon, and it will make everyone's experience much more enjoyable and easier to navigate, so I hope you will bear with us until then.  ~Kim

I love how you invited us to share in their honeymoon adventure; it was ridiculously romantic and so fitting! It more then makes up for the ending of season 5. As I was reading I was as so mesmerized by how your brought Ireland and the different settings to life I asked my husband if our passports were still valid!  Yes, I really did! The honeymoon was delightful in more ways then one!  Im so enjoying this story and can't wait to see whats next for our boys, although I have a feeling it might not be quite as peaceful and relaxing!!  Candy

Author's Response:

Thank you for your comments, Candy! I'm happy that you're enjoying the story so far. And you're correct. There will definitely be some ups and downs in the sequel to the Wedding Present. But I think you'll like it by the time everything is done. There will be some surprises along the way as well. ;)

Thanks for choosing to read these two stories, and for all the feedback! It is greatly appreciated. a86;~Kim

Author's Note: This is a work in progress. I am a slow writer - there's no getting around that - but I promise that it will be completed. Comments feed the muse. Just sayin'.

4/8/22  So. That author's note was written a long, long time ago. I wrote it with the best of intentions, I swear. But life happened, and for reasons I won't go into here, I couldn't bring myself to continue writing a story with this subject matter. But that little folder has lived on my desktop for all this time, and I have never forgotten where I left our boys. And so, one day a month or so ago, I opened it up and spent some time reminding myself just how much I love Brian and Justin and Queer As Folk. I still have reservations writing about cancer for 'entertainment'. I am no medical professional, nor have I personally experienced anything like what Brian is going to go through. But I've done more research for this than anything else I've ever done, and I've tried to treat it with the sensitivity and respect it deserves. Please forgive any inaccuracies.

I don't even know if anyone will give it a chance again, but I owe to those of you who trusted me and read it all those years ago (and to the boys) to keep my word and try to finish this beast. I hope you'll join me.

Raw, Powerful, emotional, beautifully written. This story touched my heart in many ways, I have two adult child who are both battling cancer as I write. I can personally say the emotions Brian & Justin are dealing with and sometimes not handling well are spot on.  For a writer to be able to convey something so powerful they themselves havent dealt with is a true credit and tribute to your skills as a writer.  You make the story and emotions real. Thank you so much for digging deep and coming back to finish this wonderful story.  Looking forward to many more chapters.   Candy

Brian has a secret past that is about to be revealed. Old demons will need to be dealt with, and new ones will emerge. How will Brian’s past affect Justin, and their future together?

Was it merely serendipity that brought Justin to that lamppost on that fateful night, or was it a preordained event? This is a tale of pain and struggle, and love and hope. Where old characters are merged with new ones and life takes some very interesting turns for the gang and especially for Brian and Justin.

I just finished Entwined, it was superbly written!  Your connection to the characters, and who they are is what draws me to your stories. Your way of setting a scene with words, a description, makes the whole story come alive.  You have a way of making your readers feel what you felt when writing, that is a gift!  You write with an understanding that Brian & Justins love isnt always about the happy times, yet inspite of all they have been through it is the one thing that will always connect them, even surviving distance and time! Thank you for writing this amazing story, you are one of my all-time favorite writers!! Candy

Liberty Banner

A new friend (thanks, Giotto!) pointed out that there are still people interested in Queer as Folk. I have 600 pages of this story typed up, the rest is still a manuscript - as in, handwritten. Actual pen, actual paper. The story itself is finished, it just needs typing and proof-reading. I think I'll have about 1,000 pages when I'm done.

I recently lost a lot of stuff due to a computer crash; so I decided to finally put this here, where it will hopefully be safe for a while. (I once did have the whole thing typed up. I'll do it one more time, but I really don't want to do that again after that!)

So. This story is my take on what happens when Justin returns from New York. Some places in Pittsburgh are my invention, others actually do exist, or rather, they existed at the time I wrote this. I used a lot of the characters we saw in the series, and I created a few more.

I'm not giving any warnings - if you watched QaF, you know what to expect. (I don't write explicit f/f, or f/m - the explicit m/m scenes all have Brian in them.) Hope you enjoy!

Banner by Janet - so beautiful, thank you!

What a cliff we're on, hanging on till you can update! Craig is still a jerk, while I can kind of understand how he feels about their relationship still doesn't excuse what he did to Brian! I'm starting to really dislike New York!!

Author's Response:

A big cliff indeed. Craig overreacted but his reacton was expected and quite understandable. New York is indeed not the favorit cuty from the QAF fans lol.

I'll be able to update in a couple of days so stay tuned.

I give Justin credit, he handled things with Jennifer much better (and nicer) then I would have! Not to say he isnt devastated as it is obvious he is, glad he has Emmett for support as Im sure he is feeling like he is in this alone! Justin will need to dig deep to find the strength to establish a relationship with HIS son, Brian will be an added element he will also have to deal with. And we all know what Brian can be like when pushed!   Candy

Author's Response:

We will have to wait and see how Justin will handle his mother and Brian and the relationship with Luke in the long run. For now he has only known about his son for a couple of hours and is still in so much pain because of Brian's and Jennifer's betrayal. Poor guy :(

The story was set up perfectly and I have to admit I didnt see that coming! I can only imagine Justins shock finding out that not only did he have a son but he missed five years of his life!  And Jen was aware all of this time...oh boy the fireworks are going to fly!  I cant wait to see how this plays out!  Love your writing style!  Candy

Author's Response:

Thanks for your kind comment - I really appreciate it!

Yes, the upcoming chapters will be very intense and emotional. It won't be easy for Justin to deal with this huge betrayal from both Brian and his mother.

I am loving this story, and am speechless at the cruel betrayal by Brian and even more so by Jennifer! How could anyone do that to Justin, let alone the two people he loved the most. I hope Justin takes time to heal and doesnt cave right away to the apologies that should be coming his way from both of them. And all of that hurt for what...so he could become a Famous Artist?? I hope Justin is a better person that I would be as I dont think I could forgive or forget missing five years of my childs life!  Candy

Author's Response:

Thank you so much for your comment. I really appreciate it :)

We'll see about Justin being a better person. He will be angry and Brian and Jennifer will know about his anger. That's for sure. They won't get away with a carte blanche. Not after what they did to him :(

While I would like to cut Brian some slack, my heart just wont let me! "I told him you were in NY working on your art." Really Brian, for five years?? So Debbie, Jennifer, Brian and the rest of the gang all got to watch Justins son grow up, everyone except Justin!!!  I felt like bitch slapping Brian! I really hope Justin doesnt give into Brian for a long time, say oh about five years!  This is SO well written, that inspite of wanting to strangle Brian, I cant stop reading!  Candy

Author's Response:

Haha, I do understand your feelings completely. I hated Brian soooo much while writing this. And I felt soooo badly for Justin. Giving into Brian and starting a relationship again is probably the last thing on Justin's mind right now. He's probably more busy right now trying to find ways not to kill Brian *lol*

“Papa! You're here! You're really here!” The young boy exclaimed as he hugged Justin's legs as if they would disappear the second he'd let go of them.

Well if that didnt reduce me to tears (which it did) the picture of little "Luke" was my undoing! He is just how I picture Justins son, blonde, big blue eyes and beyond adordable. How sad to think they have missed five years of Father/Son bonding time. And dont think I have even begun to forgive Brian, if I ever do! Ive been on the Brian Train since the beginning but for me that train has derailed, and is limping into the station. It will take a miracle to get me back on board. Amazing story and writing!  Candy

Author's Response:

Nah, I don't expect anyone to forgive Brian just yet. What he and Jennifer did is just too bad :( It will take time, patience and lots of good will from Justin to ever have him forgive either of them...

I love Luke - can't help it! The little guy is just too cute for words :)

“He had probably taken Justin's biggest dream from him without giving Justin's feelings a second thought. What kind of asshole did that make him?”

A pretty big one in my book! I can’t believe that you are able to bring out such strong emotions, I have been in Brians corner since I became aware of the show and here I am finding myself want to strangle the crud out of him. I am glad we are getting some answers…but the man was clueless!!  I’ve never been a big Michael or Lindz fan but now I literally loathe them for what they did! Two very selfish adults that could only think of their own needs. An innocent child was involved and they used him as a pawn to get what THEY wanted!  Arggghh

Normally I’m not a fan of Mpreg stories but you reeled me in and I’m hooked thanks to your superb writing skills!  Candy

Author's Response:

Thanks for your comment, I really appreciate it :)

I have never been a big fan of Michael and Lindsay either and thought they were both spoiled, attention hungry, selfish people. I have never seen that they made "good" friends for Brian and never really liked them on the show either, so it was kind of easy to choose them for the villain roles in this story ;)

Yeah, I think I got a lot of people to hate Brian. By now I almost feel sorry for the guy with all the hate he's getting *lol* But then he deserves it for what he did to Justin, so... I guess it's all fair and deserved :P

I guess Im just not in a very forgiving mood at the moment, along with wanting to strangle the crud out of Brian, I can now add Jennifer!! What a tangled web Brian, Jennifer, and Debbie have weaved! When Jennifer chose having a relationship with her grandson over Luke having a relationship with his father, I was done with Jennifer!  Im the queen of wanting a B/J Happy Ever After but with that said...this may be the one and only time I ever secretly wish that doesnt happen. I'm still in the grieving stage for all that Justin has lost!!   Candy

Author's Response:

Haha, I can understand about the unforgiving mood - what they did is absolutely despicable :/

It's a good thing we have only reached about half of the story - maybe by the end of it you'll feel more like a B/J Happy-end :)

Thanks for your comment, Candy! I appreciate it :)

Summary:

AU after Season 4. The year Justin turns 23, he and Brian get the news that over the next year he's going to gradually lose all of his hearing. The series tracks the next three years of their life as they manage their new reality, after-effects of the bashing, their eventual move to New York, and their ever-evolving relationship. Told in first-person chapters from their points of view and some outsiders, with some angst, a lot of hurt/comfort, and loads of humor. Never any big relationship drama, and no one ever takes themselves too seriously.

You have given the softer side of Brian a chance to shine,  I have laughed, cried and just loved every minute of his taking care of “his boy” Brian Kinney style of course!  This is definitely one of those stories I don’t want to end!!

I don't normally read Wip as I've been burnt many times, mostly my fault when I find a story was never finished. I jumped in as I know you are an author true to your word that you will finish this amazing story.  It's captivating to see Brian search to find who he is under the booze, drugs and sex!  To see his awakening to how his friends view and treat him is quite eye opening.  I love your writing style, your eye for detail, exploring his emotions. Brians abuse of drugs, alcohol and sexual is a side that was never touched on during the show and should have been!   Loving this story!!  Candy

Author's Response:

Candy:

Thank you for your kind words.  Yes, I wrote WIP and I totally understand folks who don't want to read a story until it is finished.  I hate reading something and then realize the author never finished it.  Of course, I have been writing this one for three years, but you're in luck as it will be finished in a couple weeks.  Do not despair as there is a sequel.  Lol

I always thought that Brian was an alcoholic and I understand that the show was ground breaking and wanted to explore the sexuality and lifestyle more than it did other topics.  I don't even remember what made me decide that this was a topic I wanted to write about but it has definitely been a very wonderful journey that I am still working on.  I'm pleased that you are enjoying the story and my writing style.  My family was amazed that my readers continued to read despite there being no sex for a long time.  I told them the story was not a PWP.  Thank you for writing.

Author's Response:

Ha! I hope you still love me. ;) The next few chapters I think will still have cliffhangers, as we approach the climax of the story, but then things should get a little less cliffhanger-y as we make our way towards resolution. My recommendation in figuring out what's wrong with Justin would be to think about his symptoms...he's sleeping a lot, he's withdrawing, he's anxious, he's having mood swings, he isn't interested in things that he once was...
