I am Catholic but I agree with what you've written.

This is great! And far from offending Christians it should make them happy as it expresses the actual faith itself. Especially the last line where she is STILL only thinking of herself.

The character Joan portrayed mixes up a lot of folk-superstition and working-class customs of her time and place with the actual teachings of her Church. For example the Church actually runs a lot of the shelters for battered women and children. And they are CONSTANTLY trying to get people in her situation to grab the kids and "get out of dodge".

Her "marriage" is the kind that gets annulled because it was not "valid". Here are just two of the many grounds that would probably have done, (1) Psychological state precluding ability to consent, i.e. he was an unstable drunkard (2) No intention, when marrying, to remain faithful to the spouse, etc., etc.

Author's Response:

Thank you so much for this. It means a lot to me to hear that I haven't offended to many people with this fic, since that was never my intention.

I think you're right. The church would probably have given her an annulment on those grounds.

I am a Christian, and your story is perfect.

Author's Response: Thank you so much. I was a little worried about that.

I like the story...though I am Christian I am certainly not offended. (Personally, I think people like Joan are too far gone for Purgatory. God's mercy is eternal, but we're talking about Joan Kinney...)

Just one minor thing though...I have a hard time imagining St. Peter using a phrase like "...get out of dodge." It's too modern a cliche for a two-thousand year old saint.

Other than that great story as usual.

Author's Response:

I see your point, but i think in his 'job' he would have to speak the language of the fime. If he spoke like they did 2000 years ago there would be a fair chance that most people wouldn't understand him.

Thank you for the comment, I live for them. :-)
