Jessica, I couldn't sleep & came across this little story. It's dark & I loved it.
I read that you were going through a tough time while you wrote this. I'm so sorry. It seems we have something in common. I, myself was going through hell at the same time. Watching the love of my life, my husband dying slowly of liver cancer which took him from me July 15, 2014.
I still deal with depression. I totally understand. I hope you're feeling better. Funny, how I came across this tonight. I have the added bonus of a sequel which I will read soon. Loved it. Take care. Hugs!
P.S. I'm waiting for Blaze of glory to be updated, but Happy I found this.

Author's Response:

Hi Annie,

I am so glad to see another person who enjoyed this dark, depressing story!

I was indeed going through a tough. I had a diagnosis of unipolar, and simultaneously life was in the tanker for a heap of reasons. You know, those dark days that you swear is not ever, ever going to get better (until it does, somehow, sometimes with nothing more than the pasage of time). I am truly sorry to hear about your husband. My deepest condolences.

I had a few relapses since then, but I think (hopefully) that I am a lot more stable and happier now. I hope that you are doing better now, and if you ever need someone to just listen, please feel free to PM me.

*hugs*

(and yes, Blaze of Glory just got updated!)

Hi there!

Loved it, and I'm glad you have a sequel, I love your cocky, snarky Justin. He still seem innocent and kind despite what he went through. Great work! Thank you.

Take care,

Sorcha.

Author's Response:

Hi,

Thanks so much for reading this! I know it was dark and very ambiguous, so, double thanks for sticking with it!

Intriguing and I'm left with so many questions. Sequel here I come:-)

Author's Response:

:)

At least you didn't have to wait 2 years for the sequel, like the original readers of the story!

Reviewer: The Lantern keeps shining (Anonymous) · Date: October 29, 2015 10:36 AM · On: Chapter 1

I know what the tattoo could be. A corvette driving off into the sunset with a hand dangling a gun out. 'No Apologies, no regrets.' What was that film called? With the two women on the run from the law and driving off a cliff.....oooh!     And also nod to the end of the original British series of Q.A.F.

Author's Response:

Bahahahahahaha! You are so funny!

The movie you're thinking about is 'Thelma and Louise'.

Reviewer: Koalared (Anonymous) · Date: October 29, 2015 01:36 AM · On: Chapter 3

this is wonderful. Looking forward to November 1!

Author's Response:

Thanks so much for reviewing!

The sequel will be here soon :)

Loved the tone of this story .. and I can't tell you how much I love the promise of a sequel:)

Author's Response:

I am so glad that you liked it! Thanks so much for your review, and I hope the sequel will live up to expectations.

I'm glad to hear that you have recovered from the depression, or at least you're managing quite well in order to keep on posting this story. I'd love to read a sequel and I'm eager to doing it. Great job with this part

Author's Response:

Managing much better, I would say. Two years is about enough time to learn, lol.

Thanks so much for reading and reviewing, and I hope the sequel will not disappoint.

Reviewer: SunshineSally (Signed) · Date: October 28, 2015 10:35 PM · On: Chapter 3

AHHHHHHHHHHHH! Firstly I do love how you left it, it gets us all thinking and we can create the perfect ending that we want, BUT I am greedy and want more, so I cannot wait for your sequel xxx

Author's Response:

I am so glad you liked the story, and thanks so very much for reading and reviewing. I hope that the sequel does not disappoint!

Reviewer: steff (Anonymous) · Date: October 28, 2015 08:07 PM · On: Chapter 3

I liked this story just the way it is, but I will love to read more! It's a plot with so much potential, I'm looking forward for your sequal. Well done! This is soooo interesting :-)

I'm glad you are feeling better now!!!

Author's Response:

Thanks for your good wishes, and for reading and reviewing as well :) Means a lot.

So glad that you were happy with the story as is.

Reviewer: JAZZEPOET (Signed) · Date: October 28, 2015 07:10 PM · On: Chapter 3

Hmmmm....I am soooo glad there is a sequel because there is so much more of this wonderful story to be told!

Author's Response:

Thanks for your review! I hope the sequel does not let you down!

Reviewer: tiger062 (Signed) · Date: October 28, 2015 12:30 PM · On: Chapter 3

Okay - a couple of questions answered but still so more to go. Looking forward to the sequel.

I was just checking my folder of your previous stories and getting a bit of a rush thinking it was time to read them again......they are really good stories - I think I'll start with Buses and Trains - who cares if the house gets vacuumed - well maybe I'll quickly run through the cleaning up......LOL

Author's Response:

Thanks so much for following this story! I'm so very glad that you liked it :)

And thanks also for your wonderful words re my stories. Buses and Trains is my favourite.

Reviewer: The Lantern keeps shining (Anonymous) · Date: October 28, 2015 11:48 AM · On: Chapter 3

You're right. You do come out the other side. Even though it never seems like you will at the time.

Author's Response:

Thanks. Still getting there, I think, but so much better than before.

Reviewer: Astrid (Signed) · Date: October 28, 2015 10:43 AM · On: Chapter 3

That was fucking hot, I felt the electricity getting out of the monitor. Good that there is a sequel, I will read it with pleasure. I'm glad that you feel better now and that the MW was with you during the bad times. You can always count on us :)

Author's Response:

:) thank you! I am so glad that you enjoyed it. I find it difficult to write scenes with sexual action, so I rarely do it. Until the prompt demands it, lol!

Reviewer: arakiss (Signed) · Date: October 28, 2015 10:38 AM · On: Chapter 3

I love it.
The ending and all.
Seeing only 3 chapters and the way your story progresses I was expecting an open ending.
But - you were so kind to reveal enough information for my own imagination to start running :)
Thank you!

Author's Response:

Aw, thank you! I am so glad that you liked this weird little story :)

Reviewer: The Lantern keeps shining (Anonymous) · Date: October 28, 2015 10:11 AM · On: Chapter 3

My God! Brian's not the only one transfixed. Phew! Trying to cool down here after that episode. Why are you making these stories short?

Author's Response:

;) Your reviews are awesome!

This was written for the 2013 QAF Gift Exchange, so it had to be short - you can't write a 25 chapter story for it. I thought this was actually a bit too long for the Gift Exchange, but was unable to trim if further. The sequel is only a bit longer, so that they both fit stylistically. Also, considering that it took me 2 years to write 4 chapters, I doubt Atlantis can be made much longer.

For what it's worth, I'm about to start writing a proper fanfic story again, longer than 7 chapters. No clue when it will be finished though, so no publishing till then.

Reviewer: Toto_too514 (Anonymous) · Date: October 28, 2015 07:24 AM · On: Chapter 3

Oh, and yes... I now get the choice of title. All roads DO lead to Brian & Justin being together. It's inevitable.  Clever!

Reviewer: Toto_too514 (Anonymous) · Date: October 28, 2015 07:20 AM · On: Chapter 3

Loved it! And while I understand the interest in leaving an air of mystery surrounding Justin & Brian's situations in the original posting of this story, I for one am very glad that there is a sequel already waiting in the wings!

Author's Response:

Thanks so much for your wonderful reviews! I'm glad that you liked this very weird AU story.

Reviewer: eureka1 (Signed) · Date: October 28, 2015 06:46 AM · On: Chapter 3

I like the way this chapter ended. I interpret all roads leading to Rome as all roads leading Justin and Brian to each other. I am, however, thrilled that there will be a sequel and am eagerly awaiting the first installment of Atlantis.

You're an amazing artist/writer, and I'm glad the writing process--and reading reviews--helped you through the worst of your depression. I hope sharing your art continues to be cathartic.

Author's Response:

Thanks so much, as always, for your reviews and encouragement.

Couldn't write much, tbh, except this story and finishing up 'Buses and Trains'. Thus the long hiatus. I'm trying to write now instead of watching Criminal Minds on repeat, so that's something :)

Reviewer: YumYumPM (Signed) · Date: October 28, 2015 06:02 AM · On: Chapter 3

I was about to say Noooooo, you can't leave it like this.  But then you wrote a sequel and I can't wait to read it.  I'll be looking forward to seeing it.

Author's Response:

:)

Thank you! I'm so happy that you're excited.

Reviewer: Astrid (Signed) · Date: October 28, 2015 12:47 AM · On: Chapter 2

I like it by now, it's original - there hasn't been any other fanfic with Justin as a tattoo artist I think. I'd like to know more about J.'s past. Looking forward for more! Thanks for posting.

Author's Response:

I wish I could take credit for the concept, but the tattoo artist idea was in the prompt from mander3_swish. The whole murder idea was mine though :P

Thank you so very much for reading and reviewing. I truly appreciate it.

Reviewer: steff (Anonymous) · Date: October 27, 2015 10:01 PM · On: Chapter 2

That's fun to read! Waiting for more :-) Thank you for sharing!

Author's Response:

You guys are so sweet, with all these amazing reviews! Thank you!

Reviewer: eureka1 (Signed) · Date: October 27, 2015 08:32 PM · On: Chapter 2

Oh, wow! I can't wait for more. I want to know exactly what happened between Hobbs (presumably) and Justin, esp. if Justin killed Chris with a bat. ...and I don't think Cody sounds like a good guy; is he exploiting Justin?

Author's Response:

The identity of Justin's 'victim' is revealed in the next chapter...but the details and more info about Cody only comes out in the sequel.

Thanks so much for being such an amazing reader & reviewer!

Reviewer: eureka1 (Signed) · Date: October 27, 2015 08:25 PM · On: Chapter 1

Another intriguing story--so glad you're posting it on MW! Justin and Brian always set off sparks when they meet; you've captured that perfectly. Can't wait to find out more details, particularly about Justin's background. And is Cody a good guy or not in this incarnation?

Author's Response:

:) Thanks for reading it! I never wanted to post t anywhere, but now that I have completed the sequel, I don't feel bad, because readers don't have to wait too long for closure.

Reviewer: Larka (Signed) · Date: October 27, 2015 07:56 PM · On: Chapter 2

Justin killed someone?  Woah!

Author's Response:

:) Yup. It's a really different AU than ones I have attempted before. Thanks so very much for continuing to read and review!

Reviewer: Carol (Anonymous) · Date: October 27, 2015 06:27 PM · On: Chapter 2

I like the idea of Justin as a tattoo artist .. and I really like the idea of Brian with a tattoo.

Author's Response:

:)

I wish I could say that those ideas were mine, but they were in the prompt from mander3_swish. Thanks so much for reading and reviewing!

Reviewer: YumYumPM (Signed) · Date: October 27, 2015 04:41 PM · On: Chapter 2

Fantabulous.  We've learned a bit more.  The third man was Ted.  Makes sense.  And Justin beat his lover with a bat.  May I hope it was Ethan?  Perhaps it was self-defense?  Or was it Hobbs?  More soon?

Author's Response:

OMG. I laughed so hard when I read this : May I hope it was Ethan?

Thanks so much for your awesome review. It is amazing to get positive feedback. I wrote this story when I was drifting in and out of a depression, so it means a lot when people seem to like it.

Interesting plot. Loving it so far.

Author's Response:

:) thank you!

Reviewer: bksbracelet (Signed) · Date: October 27, 2015 11:38 AM · On: Chapter 2

Argh the chapters are too short I get so invested in the chapters and they end lol

Author's Response:

Hahahaha! Thanks so much for reading and reviewing :)

It was written for the Gift Exchange, so I tried to keep it rather short. Even the sequel is only 4 chapters.

Reviewer: The Lantern keeps shining (Anonymous) · Date: October 27, 2015 10:57 AM · On: Chapter 2

Sad to see that this is how Justin sees his life at this point but he doesn't realise that he's just met the men who will become part of his new family and future. A bit like Blake and Ted being former drug addicts struggling to be trusted and accepted again.

Author's Response:

Wow, that's a very deep reading, and one that isn't even contemplated until the sequel. You're amazing! Thanks for the review :)

Reviewer: The Lantern keeps shining (Anonymous) · Date: October 27, 2015 10:19 AM · On: Chapter 1

A -ha...Me thinks the chase is on. Brian thinking Justin is just a rude fuck but the design has really caught his attention. I can tell this is going to be really good.

Author's Response:

Aaaw, thanks so much for this lovely review. You guys are awesome readers!

Reviewer: tiger062 (Signed) · Date: October 27, 2015 08:16 AM · On: Chapter 2

Very intrigued. Why did Justin kill his lover with a baseball bat - doesn't sound like Justin at all - must be a story behind that - especially if he's out on parole - self-defence perhaps? Can't wait to find out. Nor can I wait to find out how Brian will deal with all this. Eagerly waiting for more.

Author's Response:

I love hearing about what readers think when they read something :) Thanks a ton for reading, and leaving reviews saying what you're thinking!

Reviewer: gotb30 (Signed) · Date: October 27, 2015 06:29 AM · On: Chapter 2

I loved Justin's confidence in his art, especially this: "I could do a portrait of you and it would look better than you." Lol!! Justin's past... wow. I'm looking forward to the next chapter and when he and Brian spend more time together.

Author's Response:

:) It's so great that you are leaving these sweet reviews. Thank you!

Reviewer: JAZZEPOET (Signed) · Date: October 27, 2015 06:14 AM · On: Chapter 2

I just devoured both chapters and I must say I am intrigued and confused. Why was Justin in jail? I can't wait to find out.

Author's Response:

Thanks so much for reading and reviewing! Chapter 2 mentions why Justin was in jail, though it seems like a throwaway line - he killed someone.

Reviewer: Toto_too514 (Anonymous) · Date: October 27, 2015 05:00 AM · On: Chapter 2

OK, well this installment only served to increase the intrigue! Not the least of which is the rather non-descript name! More please!

Author's Response:

Thank you so very much for your reviews :)

And I love the comment about the title! I promise, the next chapter will explain it.

Reviewer: rainbow83 (Anonymous) · Date: October 27, 2015 04:38 AM · On: Chapter 2

I've liked the story so far, I'm already hooked with two chapters, it seems to be a really intresting plot

Author's Response:

Aw, thanks so much for reading and reviewing! It's not a really long stpry - 1 more chapter left, and 4 chapters in the sequel.

Tattoo artist!  Bunch of questions.  Why does Justin have a parole officer?  Did Brian lose a bet is that why he needs a tattoo?  Does Michael want a Capt. Astro tat?  Who is the third man?  When do we get more?

Author's Response:

:) Thanks for reading, and reviewing! I'll post the next chapter tomorrow.

There's only two more chapters left to this story - some of your questions are answered but most of your questions get answered in the sequel.

The original was written for the Gift Exchange in 2013, but I just managed to finish the sequel a few days ago.

Reviewer: gotb30 (Signed) · Date: October 26, 2015 01:02 PM · On: Chapter 1

I really liked this, and it has a very intriguing meeting between them. I'm really looking forward to the next chapter. It will be very interesting to see what Brian requests for a tattoo, and how the title plays into it (commemorative for someone named Rome maybe?). :)

Author's Response:

:)

Thanks for reading and reviewing! You'll see what the title means in the last chapter - there are only two more left. But there is an equally short sequel, and a lot of the background questions get answered there.

Reviewer: tiger062 (Signed) · Date: October 26, 2015 10:44 AM · On: Chapter 1

Love the start. Do have a lot of questions and I'll try to be patient as you reveal them - but what did Justin do to end up with a parole officer and why is Michael telling Brian what he has to do - oh wait he always does that..... and why does Brian HAVE to get a tattoo today? Looking forward to finding out....

Author's Response:

Thanks for reading and reviewing!

Not everything gets revealed here, but that's what the sequel is for ;)

Reviewer: Toto_too514 (Anonymous) · Date: October 26, 2015 05:19 AM · On: Chapter 1

Interesting start... looking forward to more updates.

Author's Response:

Thanks so much for reading and reviewing! It's not a very story, but there is also a short sequel.
