While I do think this one-shot was well-written in terms of structure and style, I don't think Michael's death would have brought Brian and Justin closer together, at least not immediately like the story describes. They might go towards each other for physical comfort but this would shake everyone down to their cores. Most likely, it would have hurt Brian deeply and he wouldn't just renegotiate their relationship within a day. He would be heartbroken, feel immense guilt, and it would not be an ideal way to get them to communicate at all whatsoever because Brian would be a mess. Michael has been his best friend since they were 14 and he would probably fall into a deep depression and not immediately have a "happy" ending with Justin. So I really don't understand how he seems mostly over Michael's death by the end of the story, especially when it looks like no time has passed.

I loved this, and with the exception of Michael dying, it's a perfect alternate ending. It's all just that easy.

Ahh, if only it had gone like this. Okay I won't be petty - maybe not the Mikey dying bit 'cos I like Ben, but definitely our boys staying together without interference, especially from Lindsay. This alternative definitely has the feel good factor :-)

Interesting AU after the bombing that could definitely be canon. Michael's death might have been the catalyst for Brian and Justin to clearly communicate. No need to a mansion or a commitment ceremony, just honesty and respsect.
