Just read it a second time and enjoyed it again!

Author's Response:

Hi Steff,

Thanks so very much for reading and reviewing.

I know that this is a particularly angsty, sad story, so I am doubly glad that you enjoyed it twice! :)

Reviewer: steff (Anonymous) · Date: May 05, 2016 12:35 AM · On: Chapter 2

Wow, interesting plot!

Sorry, I'm too tired to reviev properly, but want to say thank you for sharing nonetheless!

Author's Response:

Aaw!

Thanks so much for reading and reviewing. Even if it is a short review, it is truly appreciated!

Reviewer: steff (Anonymous) · Date: May 05, 2016 12:22 AM · On: Chapter 1

Sad, but a good "what if" first chapter. I'm thinking right now that the attitude of your Justin is much more healthy then the one of canon-Justin.

Off to read the next chapter :-)

Author's Response:

:)

Thank you!

“I needed to grow up. I needed to sort my life out. The question was how the fuck to even begin doing that.”
“What I told Daphne wasn’t a lie; leaving Brian was a terrible mistake. But…at the same time, it wasn’t.”
“But he didn’t care enough about me to ask me to stay. To stop tricking.”
“I wanted him to say that he loves me. That being with me is enough. But he’s never going to say that. So…I had to live life my life on his terms.”
“That’s when I knew. I had to stop seeing him. I would end up doing something, saying something, and I’d end up back in his bed. And the same old story would start.”
“Love didn’t change anyone. People were who they were, and you either accepted that, or…”
“l loved him for who he was, his fuck-the-world attitude, but I had always been fighting for the top spot when it came to him.”
“If I wasn’t sure that I could be happy with Brian’s terms, then I had no business hanging around him…”

I was ecstatic to find that that I hadn’t reviewed this chapter. I don’t know how I missed all this the first time. This was truly “an introspective journey with Justin”. I feel if the writers of QAF had of kept Justin in character it pretty much could have played out like your fic. It always bothered me that Justin seemed so immature and spiritless when it came to his relationship with Brian. It didn’t fit that he chose to stay in the closet with Ethan (that’s another story) and it didn’t fit that he went back to Brian and accepted the same terms in which initiated the reason Justin left in the first place. It was another WTF moment for me.

I loved the way you logically listed all of Justin’s thoughts about his situation during his post Ethan breakup. I think you captured the Justin perfectly. Running back to Brian just because Justin loved him just didn’t seem logical. I don’t think it was a matter of Justin falling out of love with Brian but not being able to deal with the circumstances of the relationship. I loved how you bought up the constant competition to get Brian’s attention. I had forgotten about that. It had to have been exhausting. To me, Brian and Justin belonged together, but I had to applaud when Justin came to his senses the second time he left Brian. He needed to stand up for himself and go back to being the Justin I knew before the bashing. On the same note, Justin was just a 17 lovesick teenager at the beginning. He was bound to make mistakes. But I think all that he went through since the beginning of his relationship with Brian would have matured him a little sooner than normal.
Whew, sorry for such a long review.

Now I need a nap.

Author's Response:

OMG!

NEVER apologise for long reviews - this is SO amazing to read. I'll be smiling for days now. Thank you!!!

I totally agree with you. Brian and Justin are meant to be together, always, but it upset me that they got together in S3 without addressing the problems that they had that drove them apart. Like you, I applauded Justin when he finaly stood up for himself in S5, thought Brian's regression to S2ness seemed out of character for the growth he had shown in S3 and S4. I would have liked Justin to have been alone before they made up, and thus this story.

Justin needed to learn to put his own needs before Brian, and Brian...well, he needed to grow up just a tad bit.

But, yeah. Your review here is fantabulous!

Heart breakingly beautiful!! Loved the ending.

Author's Response:

Thank you so much! I'm really glad that you liked it, especially because it is quite angsty. As always, thanks a ton for reviewing and letting me know what you thought :)

The ending was great! I wish there would be more, though - I will miss the updates.

The scene you described is one of my favorites in the show. This ride was such a big challenge for Brian. The moment with Justin was spectacular - I liked how you showed his worry, desire to comfort Brian, and finally desperate hope for their future together. I'm so glad everything turned out well! They deserve to be happy.

Thank you for this charming work!

Author's Response:

Thank you so much for this wonderful review! And thanks for having read this story, and for having reviewed it so consistently :) It's really such a great feeling to see reviews and to know that people liked what was written.

The boys deserved to be happy. I know readers felt this was a rather sad story, so I wanted the ending to be something hopeful.

Reviewer: Severus_divides_into_H (Signed) · Date: October 16, 2015 08:25 AM · On: Chapter 7

I wish the story would be longer, but the ending was absolutely wonderful. It’s both canon and not – perfect for your Brian and Justin. I loved how Justin was silently supportive, letting Brian say everything he needed to say without rushing or interrupting him. The connection, the love between them was absolutely palpable.

Thank you! Can we hope for another story from you? And by the way, I’ve been meaning to ask – is there still a chance that What They Won't Tell You At The Water Cooler will be ever finished? If not, maybe you could tell in a few short sentences how the plot should have developed? I love that story so much.

Thank you again. I hope you’re well. You know you can always find support here.

Author's Response:

Thank you so much for this really wonderful review, especially your comment about support, because this is a time where I am at crossroads in life.

I have several unfinished stories - this one was born from a (mostly abandoned) story, where I had tried to chronicle the cycles of depression through Justin. That story just was not working, but it had all these parts I had written, which then got turned into 'Truly, Madly, Deeply'. Since my life is such a mess, I won't be posting any new fics until the story is complete, so that readers will never be left hanging again. 'Watercooler'...it is hard to finish a story after so many years, especially when it is co-authored. Xrifree are still writing it, in fits and spurts. Hopefully, we will reach the finish line, and it will finally get published. I will keep writing - I have two unfinshed stories, Watercooler and a few plot bunnies. But I will only start publishing when the whole story is complete.

Thanks again for your support and wonderful reviews!

Wonderful story... so happy the boys found their way back to each other, but glad they had the time to "work on themselves" during the time they spent away from each other. Now there's nothing that will be able to keep them apart.

Author's Response:

Thanks so much for this sweet review :)

I know that the story was only from Justin's POV, but I'm glad that it came across that Brian had also worked on himself, so to speak. These two are meant to be, and now they are finally grown up and have learnt to communicate.

Good story, I liked that Justin moved on and expanded his life outside of Pittsburgh while acknowledging that it was home and indeed where his heart was. Good to see Brian finally admitting his love and need for Justin. Together without worrying about interference and opinions of others - mature grown ups at last:-)

Author's Response:

Thanks so much for reading this mostly-sad story. The boys had to grow up, and this was always what I had wanted for them post-Ethan.

Bravo! And I absolutely love the song....I wasn't going to assume it was the title's inspiration...I'm glad I wasn't wrong ;)

Author's Response:

The original ending had them as friends-but-not-back-together, but everyone found the story much sadder than I did, so I wanted a positive ending.

The title is supposed to reflect Justin's feelings for Brian and what he really wants, no matter whether they are together or apart.

What a lovely concluding chapter! First, I had to wipe away a tear and now can't stop smiling. The boys communicate on an emotional and verbal level and are back together...as they should be.

Thanks again for this AU, could be canon (I wish it were) story!

I must thank you for sticking to it until the very end, and for always reviewing and making me feel good :)

The boys deserve to be together, especially after they both grew up.

Hello (again)Jessica,

I have always been an admirer of your stories that I discovered in another website. I found your stories when I felt like giving up on the fandom. There are many great stories but I was a bit tired of the God Brian can’t do anything wrong (poor him he had a bad childhood)/ Victim/sad/weak Justin.

What I enjoyed in your stories is the fact that you don’t give Brian excuses, you acknowledge his difficult childhood, but at 29-30 you don’t allow him to use it as an excuse to behave poorly, it would be a different story if he was 17-20. Moreover you call him on the b****** he says. It always surprised me that no one told him how insane his “I don’t do love” was. And “love is what straight people tell themselves to get laid.” Seriously? Teenagers maybe, most adults don’t. I think that the moment the pill was created and condoms were sold everywhere, no one needed to pretend anymore lol. He’s a great character interesting, complex, and funny despite himself and it was so refreshing to see someone say, well you are great, handsome and all but don’t push it with the b******.

I can’t count how many stories where Justin is beaten, raped, weak, sad, and it feels like he doesn’t use common sense or even his brain. You always write such a strong Justin, because I think he really is, you have to be to survive a hate crime and keep going. Even if Brian was such a great help in his recovery, one can’t move on unless one wants it.

I really enjoy your story because I always thought that Justin should have taken time for himself after Ethan. I really didn’t get how he went from breaking up with Ethan, to I want Brian back the next minute. I presume that it was due to the pressure from the producers and the fans who wanted them back together, but it was really not done well. I get he wasn’t in love with Ethan, but still. It would have been the perfect timing for B/J to be friends and more later. Even if your Justin was so sad and depressed, he stood up for what he believed was good for him. I know Justin haters always point out that he always leave, but who really knows what they want at his age. Perhaps if he had taken some time for himself after Ethan he would have had the time to think about what he wanted.

Thank you for this story, it was so sad at times, but so beautiful, I really felt for Justin and understand why he had to go away. I hope more will come, because you are such a talented author, and this fandom needs your stories.

Take care,

(I’m at work, pretending to listen to my colleagues debate/yell if we should go on strike or not, and your story gave me the opportunity to have a serious expression, which make them think that I was really concerned looking for information hi! hi!, thank you.)

Sorcha.

Author's Response:

Thank you SO MUCH for this amazing review!!! And all your other reviews too! But this one…so sweet and so good for my ego! J

Brian was never my favourite character, though there was a lot to admire in him. The problem was mainly all the flaws you listed, and I wish the show had actually given us a grown-up, matured Brian before that absurd finale.

Justin was always my hero (along with Ben), and he is the one I identify with. Like you said, he is such a strong character, so mature, and has a strength that Brian does not. It is impossible for me to read those stories where Justin is beaten, raped, weak etc. That is just so OOC. Justin does sad, not stupid and/or weak. I like to write stories where his inner strength comes out.

This was how I wanted the show to be post-Ethan. Two heart-broken people growing up and finding their way back to each other, not sweeping their problems under the carpet.

Your review was amazing, and it made me smile during some crazy difficult weeks.

I have some unfinished stories that I am trying to finish; no more publishing stories before they are finished, so I have no idea when you will see me surface here again. I am taking part in the QAF Gift Exchange on Livejournal, so I will definitely be writing a small something by January.

That raging fight was cathartic--for the readers, too. I'm looking for to the boys reconciling.

Author's Response:

Thanks a ton for reading and reviewing! So awesome for a writer, seeing regular reviews (and such nice reviews too!)

Yes, it certainly was cathartic, and also a catalyst. It was about time that they were truly honest with each other, though, if they hadn't been apart for two years, the honesty might not have happened.

Another amazing and emotional chapter! You sure know how to stir feelings. I was pleasantly surprised when Brian came to Justin’s show, but when he actually *screamed*, telling Justin how hurt and destroyed he was because of his leaving, my heart broke. Completely. I wanted to cry… what a beautiful and powerful moment. And Brian’s confession! I swear, it was almost as intense as in 510 after the bombing. I absolutely cannot wait for the next chapter, I need to know what is going to happen next! Thank you!

Author's Response:

You leave such awesome reviews -thank you *so* much!

The whole story is exclusively from Justin's POV, but I really wanted to show that Brian hasn't been off, having a whale of a time either, and that Brian has also been suffering on his own.

I think the next chapter will be posted sooner than later; I just did some last minute edits so my beta has to approve it.

Wow! Intense confrontation... but in a way I think the pure fury they both felt took all filters off. They were speaking the absolute truth, with no over-thinking to get in the way.

I have hope!

Author's Response:

:) Thanks so much for your review! It was a bit hard to write their fight (luckily, I have a great beta). I am so glad that you liked it. Next chapter will be here sooner than expected!

Reviewer: Aliada (Signed) · Date: October 06, 2015 09:41 PM · On: Chapter 6

Thank you for this emotional, beautiful chapter!

I should admit that I was scared for a moment here. It was so painful to see Brian and Justin apart again. Yes, Justin tried to survive, to succeed, but wasn't it just meaningless at the end? Didn't he feel like something was missing. Your ability to show every undertone of Justin's feelings is amazing - I can't get enough of your descriptions!

The break-up with Kabir isn't unpredictable, yet I completely understand why it affected Justin so much. After everything he'd been through... it's only natural that he needed at least one thing to remain whole and constant. But staying together wasn't an option, either.

Oh, the second part was powerful. They finally shared their feelings! It felt almost surreal. Well, sometimes screaming can be really useful :)

Thank you once again! Can't wait for the next chapter!

Author's Response:

Awww, this is such an amazing review! Thanks so much :) My writing is so short and matter-of-fact, I'm surprised that you can get the covert emotions. Thanks again!

Kabir was the anti-Ethan. And I think that saddened Justin as well, apart from the fact that Kabir gave him the stability he was so desperately seeking.

I might post the next chapter early; let's see what my beta has to say.

Reviewer: Aliada (Signed) · Date: October 06, 2015 09:41 PM · On: Chapter 5

Oh, this chapter was really beautiful!

It was very clever of Justin to behave this way with Brian. I thought that it would take less time for Brian to realize that something is off - Justin did a very good job.

I was touched by Brian's willingness to help Justin, no matter what. His love is so obvious!

The ending was painful. But it's logical, of course - Brian couldn't react in any other way. I just hope Justin doesn't back down, because such feelings are really worth to fight for.

Thank you!

Thanks so very much for your reviews. They are so sweet, and it feels great to have regular reviews :)

Intriguing twist to have Deb request that Justin come home to contact and reconcile with Brian, since she failed to do so with Vic. Also an interesting point of contention with Kabir, including Daphne's analysis of the situation.

So sad...but I know things will improve eventually. Very believable and in character. This continues to be an enthralling AU. Author's Response:

Thanks for reading and reviewing!

I can't promise anything, because I can't give away the story. But I can say that there will be nothing regarding the whole family. This is exclusively through Justin's eyes, and the plot revolves only around what happens to him.

Reviewer: Astrid (Signed) · Date: September 29, 2015 01:56 PM · On: Chapter 5

Intense! Bad ending of this chapter, but this is what happened in the canon as well (more or less). Hopefully it will get better soon?

Author's Response:

:) Thanks a ton for your review!

You are right - it is similar to canon. It is actually a mashup of the their fight when Brian fired Justin in S3, their fight when Brian kicked Justin out because of the cancer, and a few original lines. I wanted to keep it as close to canon as possible.

Well a lot of emotional ground was covered in this chapter but as usual with Brian and Justin one step forward two steps back!

Oh wow, that was *so* intense! Amazing chapter, so emotional, bit I read it too quickly and now I'm left wanting more. It's high time Brian and Justin met again and resumed communicating, but it didn't last long. I feel extremely sad for Justin. He's already been through so much, and Brian only added to his misery with his behavior. I understand Brian, I do, he probably thought Justin started talking to him only because he felt sorry for his cancer, but really, Justin still made that first step. It took him a lot to do it after all pain he had experienced - pain he'd run away from. And now here we go again. So what now? Justin became more miserable during last months, but I also think he became stronger. I guess it's up to Brian now to make a step to him.

Brilliant chapter.

You said you changed the ending? Oh-oh, I hope we'll still get Brian and Justin together in the end? Or at least a hope for them to be together?

Thank you!

Author's Response:

A long, fabulour review :) Thank you! You are right - each person has to do something. Justin tried, with the best of intentions. And Brian wasn't wrong to have the reaction that he did either. Life is hard for these two!

Wow, this is such a powerful, emotional story! I loved it, I'm completely hooked. The development of Justin's character is steady and believable – I can totally see this happening in canon. I always felt Justin was close to cutting Brian out of his life, at least for some time, in attempts to forget him. He learned some things during his stay with Ethan, but in the end it didn’t change much between him and Brian. Well, in canon everything did change eventually, but how could Justin know it? Brian could have stayed the same, unable to commit fully, humiliating Justin at times, not talking about important things, ignoring him and so on. I understand why Justin in your story decided to try making a new life for himself. His pain, his despair, his depression – you described everything perfectly. I was heartbroken while reading this.

But did Justin forget Brian, did he come even close to it? I’d say no. He’s like living in a limbo, unable to enjoy life the way he did before. He’s so detached and sad all the time, like a shell of his previous self. Vic’s death is a tragic event, as well as Brian’s cancer, but maybe it will finally bring two of our stubborn boys together? I applaud Debbie for writing that letter. It needed to be done. Maybe Brian and Justin will see each other again? I can’t wait!

Thank you for such a beautiful story. It’s incredible. How many chapter are left, by the way?

Author's Response:

Thank you so much for this lovely, long review! Love it!I think you really understand where Justin is coming from.

I really wished Justin had walked away from both Ethan and Brian. He swallowed what he wanted just to be with Brian, which is why that godawful S5 happened. But, that would never, ever be easy.

It was supposed to be just 5 chapters, but now it will be longer because I changed the ending.

What a sad, beautiful chaper! Thank you for it! I loved it to no end.

Your described Justin's life perfectly, Yes, he feels calm and comfortable, he is successful - yet there is one thing that's out of his reach, one he craves more than anything. His bond to Brian is painful, complicated, however, what could ever compare to its power? Justin's relationship with Kabir can't for sure.

Vic's death is indeed a very tragic moment. You managed to show all the grief and pain perfectly - I just could feel it.

The ending was breathtaking. Debbie's letter touched me very much. She really knows what she's talking about. Actually, I can't imagine Justin knowing about Brian being sick and not doing anything about it. He won't be able to stay indifferent.

Thank you once again! Can't wait for the next update!

Author's Response:

Thanks so much for reading and your review! I love reviews, especially such long and detailed ones :)

Justin will definitely not be indifferent, I can assure you that. It's not like Justin to not do anything when Brian is in some kind of danger. And Debbie is so boisterous and loud, but she does look out for everyone, especially Brian and Justin. I will be updating very, very soon :)

By far the best recent bj story I've read , it seems far more plausible than canon, can't wait to see where you take this. Loved loved ...

Hi Kimi,

Thanks so much for your amazing comment :) such a wonderful thing to say!

Ohy my god! I wish the chapter didn't end right after the email. I know that Justin will rush ti the Pitts now, he was always there for Brian in case of a need, no matter if they were together at the time or not. It's all so sad in this story, but I hope it will be better once Brian and Justin start talking to each other again.

Author's Response:

You are so right - Justin has always been there for Brian no matter what, and whether he was with Brian or not has not ever factored in.

I was wondering if the chapter ended at the right place, but it was the natural break.

Thanks so much forr continuing to read and review this story!

OMG! This is such a sad chapter. Justin finally starts to move on, then Vic dies, Kabir changes, and then Debbie drops a bombshell on him. Wow! Can't wait for the next chapter! :)

Author's Response:

:) Thanks so much for your reviews! It *is* sad - I was so upset when Vic died on the show. Justin will do something, you can be sure of that.

Reviewer: Deb Tanner (Signed) · Date: September 23, 2015 07:04 AM · On: Chapter 3

Loving this! Sad to see Justin chose to leave Pittsburgh, but it makes sense. Off to read the next chapter. :)

Justin was doing better, then he gets an e-mail from Deb.  What will Justin do?  Will it help?  Need more of this story!

Author's Response:

Hey there! Thanks a ton for continuing to read and review! :)

Will be updating in two days, so you don't have to wait too long. If we know anything about Justin, it's that he will always take action.

Poor Justin... one step forward and two steps back.

I hope Debbie's right in asking him to come back for Brian.

Author's Response:

I'm so late in responding to reviews! Thanks so much for commenting - it's so heart-warming for an author :)

Part of me feels Justin's heartbreak, and another part of me say get over the woe me and start fighting for what you want...

Later Hon ~ Kathleen

Author's Response:

Thanks so much for leaving a review - it's a great way to make authors feel appreciated :)

What Justin wants is to move away from Brian, because he knows he will not get what he truly wants. Unfortunately, the moving away process is one that is usually very sad and painful.

Reviewer: no sleep (Signed) · Date: September 17, 2015 08:16 AM · On: Chapter 3

"Now it was time to say goodbye for good, and move on."

It would be hard to get over heartbreak but Justin does need to move on. He's been miserable long enough.

Author's Response:

Thanks a ton for sticking with this story. Sometimes, moving forward means breaking your heart even more, but it has to be done.

Noooooooo Justin you and Brian are trying so hard not to get in each other's way it is ridiculous

Author's Response:

Lol, you really understand what is going on! :)

Thanks for reading and reviewing!

Oh, that was really sad :( I just could feel this desperation and loneliness. It's almost physically painful to read something like that.

I admire Justin for not being in denial about his true feelings. He's right - he won't be able to get over Brian completely. There will always be a part of him that's still in love, no matter what.

Thank you for this short yet powerfull piece! Can't wait for more!

Going off to Washington by himself can't be good.  I can understand why he's so down.  Nobody (Brian) is telling him they care.  New chapter soon would be nice.

Author's Response:

Hi Carol, thanks for reading and reviewing :)

I work everyday of the week, but Wednesday is only half a day, so it's the only day I have time enough to re-read what I have written and update the story.

Reviewer: Deb Tanner (Signed) · Date: September 12, 2015 11:21 PM · On: Chapter 2

Oh my! Now what is Justin going to do? What is Brian going to do? Looking forward to the next chapter!

Author's Response:

Thanks so much for continuing with this story!

Reviewer: eureka1 (Signed) · Date: September 10, 2015 06:29 AM · On: Chapter 1

Oops, I did conflate my seasons! I think it's partly because of that be-dammed finale. Since Justin was going to NYC to be discovered as an artist, Brian should have been with him--as husbands (or partners). That would have fulfilled a need for both of them, since I don't think Brian entirely outgrew his desire to make it big in "the city".

I'm looking forward to the suprises you have in store for your readers. :)  I know it'll be a rocky road for B&J. That's pretty much inevitable.

Reviewer: Toto_too514 (Anonymous) · Date: September 10, 2015 03:52 AM · On: Chapter 2

Intense chapter... I very much like your almost "matter-of-fact" style of storytelling. I'm very worried for poor Justin!

Author's Response:

Thank you so much reading and reviewing! :) I am glad that you like the style so far - it is the first time I am trying something introspective and drama-free. All of my earlier stories are full of melodrama, and I wanted this to be more of a 'quiet' story.

Poor Justin...it is so hard to leave the person you love and when everything else in your life is also going wrong...the next chapter is also quite short, but at least will have a bit more closure for him.

Reviewer: eureka1 (Signed) · Date: September 10, 2015 01:24 AM · On: Chapter 2

Second installment just as intriguing as the first! Ugh, now I'll have to wait a week for the next chapter. ;)

I like the way you've made the Stockwell campaign a major part of the AU. Of course, I'm curious as to whether Brian will head to NY--and how Justin (and the rest of the gang) will cope with/combat Stockwell's homophobic policies.

Author's Response:

Thanks a million for reading and reviewing. I can't stress enough about how great it feels to have people leave reviews :)

Actually, what Stockwell promised Brian was a client list - the NY offer was from S1. In any event, I think the turn in the next chapter may surprise you - I just hope that it will be a good surprise!

Reviewer: YumYumPM (Signed) · Date: September 10, 2015 01:06 AM · On: Chapter 2

Damn.  This is so sad.

Author's Response:

Thanks so much for your review!

It is hard for me too gauge the sadness level of my own writing. I still struggle to understand how others will react to the content. I personally think that moving forward, the angst level will reduce.

Reviewer: eureka1 (Signed) · Date: September 09, 2015 11:20 PM · On: Chapter 1

Interesting AU divergence for Justin (and Brian). Bit sad to start, but I know it will get better since it's Brian and Justin. Thank you for another intriguing story.

Reviewer: no sleep (Anonymous) · Date: September 09, 2015 09:20 PM · On: Chapter 2

Not sure about all the crying but loved this AU on the campaign.

Author's Response:

Thanks for your review :)

I know it was a lot of tears, but they were private tears, mostly. And that's because I really wanted to show that even strong people cry, because they are hurting.

Reviewer: Aliada (Signed) · Date: September 09, 2015 05:22 PM · On: Chapter 2

Poor Justin... It hurts to see him miserable. You manage to capture his emotions so perfectly - it's a great pleasure to read your work! I don't know why, but I was almost sure that Deekins would win (and Justin would feel better), and when that didn't happen... well, that was an intense moment.

I wonder what Brian is feeling right now. I was touched by his e-mail to Justin. Only several words - but what words they are! It's so in-canon. And so is not contacting Justin again (unfortunately).

Their meeting after the debate was heartbreaking yet beautiful. I never really thought of how their relationship would be affected if Brian didn't stop working for Stockwell. It just seemed so natural that he actually gave up his ambitions and chose the right path. Here everything is more complicated.

Thank you for the update! Looking forward for the next chapter!

Author's Response:

Thanks so much for your wonderful review! It means so much when readers respond (and with such kind words) :)

I actually thought that it would be obvious that Deekins would lose, but apparently I'm the only one who thought so. I always thought that Justin succeeded n defeating Stockwell because he had Brian by his side, and Brian worked against Stockwell because he had Justin to show him which road to take. With the two of them not together, good things just can't happen the way they did on the show.

I really wanted to show that while Justin is strong and does the right thing, he is still hurting badly inside; even the strongest people cry.

The next chapter, unfortunately, will be even shorter than this, but Part 4 will be more comprehensive.

Reviewer: Astrid (Signed) · Date: September 09, 2015 02:07 PM · On: Chapter 2

Oh no, Stockwell won :( But in only shows for important was Justin's role in the canon in his defeat. I hope Justin will find hsi way soon, because it's hard to read about him so sad and lost. Thank you for your writing!

Author's Response:

Exactly. For good things to happen, Justin and Brian have to work together. Thanks so much for reading and reviewing. Reviews truly makes a writer feel good :)

Reviewer: Daphne (Anonymous) · Date: September 09, 2015 11:26 AM · On: Chapter 2

I think this chapter gutted me just a bit.  Now that Stockwell has won in this universe, I have no clue where you're going to go since Brian's deal with Stockwell was to get his people and move on to bigger and better things.

Oh, boy.  Now I have to wait a week!!

:-))

Author's Response:

:)

Thanks so very much for reading and reviewing!! It is wonderful to have people leave reviews. I really wanted to show that a person as strong as Justin still hurts inside, deeply. You'll get a better of idea of what the future holds in the next chapter, which I confess is rather short.

Reviewer: Daphne (Anonymous) · Date: September 08, 2015 06:14 PM · On: Chapter 1

Good to see a new fic by you.

I like where this is going. I love fics where Justin decides to grow a pair and step out on his own.  He evolved through the show that way, and it's always fun to read fics that follow that path with maybe a twist or two here and there.

:-)

I look forward to Wednes!

Author's Response:

Hi Daphne!

Thank you so much for your review :)

I hope you will like the story as it unfolds. It is different from all my other stories, because this will be extremely introspective, without the usual (melo-) drama that you find in my stories - but rest assured, there will be at least two twists :). It is sometimes hard to spot Justin's strength here, because we only hear his voice.

Reviewer: CFC (Anonymous) · Date: September 08, 2015 07:34 AM · On: Chapter 1

Some authors tell you that, no matter how angsty the start, there's a happy ending.

Is there to your story? For those of us whose RL is bad enough not to need a total downer.

Author's Response:

I can't answer that question. I have two different endings, and only one will be publshed. My beta and I have not decided which is the more appropriate ending just yet. I understand if you do not wish to continue reading.

Reviewer: CFC (Anonymous) · Date: September 07, 2015 08:06 AM · On: Chapter 1

Well written, well edited, but not a happy chapter.

Do you have a statement about where you are going with this?

Author's Response:

Thanks for your review. I'm not sure I understand your question - it's a 5 part story, angsty and introspective.

Reviewer: Aliada (Signed) · Date: September 06, 2015 10:07 PM · On: Chapter 1

I like the beginning! Your style is beautiful. The plot is very captivating, though it's not easy to see Brian and Justin suffering. I feel for both of them. Justin is trying to deal with his feelings for Brian, but to no avail - fortunately (I just can't imagine him actually succeeding at that task). I was touched by his emotions every time he thought about having to break up with Brian. If only Brian wasn't so stubborn...

I understand Justin's motives and desires. He is a strong person who is willing to fight for himself - and it's admirable. However, I can't help but being glad that he didn't walk away like that in the show - it would be heartbreaking. The current situation itself is really dangerous for them. I just hope that everything works out well.

Thank you for sharing! Can't wait for the next chapter!

Author's Response:

Hi,

Thanks so much for this review and your kind words! Love it when people review :)

I loved the 'most historic unification since Germany', but always wished that Justin had stood up for what he wanted when it came to their relationship. I guess this is my way of getting that done.

Very interesting.  Where does it go from here?

:) thank you!

A few twists, but not as many as I usually create.

Reviewer: 7wildwaysup (Signed) · Date: September 06, 2015 07:16 PM · On: Chapter 1

I'm not sure if I want to cry for Brian and Justin. Or be proud that Justin is fighting for what he wants... I hope they find their way back to one another...

I made it through the first chapter which was very heartbreaking but very well written. I'm not sure how many chapters are ahead, but I think I'll wait until it's completed to continue reading. I've read quite a few angsty stories lately and honestly, I just need a break from the sadness. I will return to it as I am very interested about where this ride will lead.

Author's Response:

It's a 5 chapter story. Thanks for reviewing! I don't find it very sad, and I don't think my beta found it too sad either, but we did realise that others may feel it is more angsty than we do.
