Oh my heart, I just want to hug Emmett!

I love how you portrayed a younger Brian and Emmett. You did well, I can totally see him acting like that when he was younger.

I'm a little worried about the thing with Simon though...hope it won't backfires him!

ps: thanks for your recommandation for your other story The Start of something, I will check it out.

Author's Response:

Emmett needs all the hugs he can get! I feel like Brian had to work his way up to becoming top stud. That meant having to bottom for a few guys who had the position in order to learn a few things from both sides. And, if he's going to bottom, you can bet that he'll try to milk it for all that its worth.

Simon isn't a bad person. But he's a little too focused on Brian and shouldn't have fallen for him. Brian is nervous to cut things off since Simon is bigger, stronger, and more powerful than he is though.

Saw that you checked out The Start of Something! Thanks for reading my stories and for reviewing!

Oh maaaaaaaan, I freaking love this. I don't even know where to start. I guess I still want to cuddle Emmett about his Aunt - but I loved that Brian asked him to hang out at Babylon with him. I especially lol'd when he said that Ted and Michael weren't invited. I could totally hear him saying it.

And there is something about young Brian that I love.  The fact he was bottoming occasionally and giving guys bj's in the backroom, but was already quite uncomfortable about that - I dunno what it is about that just makes me want to pet him LOL!

I am enjoying the little Simon saga, he better be careful though :(

But seriously, Brian booking those round trip tickets to Jackson so that he can go back with Emmett to say his goodbyes... my heart, and I can imagine him getting quite protective and defensive (even if it's in his own way) over the way people back home talk to him and treat him.

Seriously loving this x

Author's Response:

I'm glad you love it, Sally! Feel free to travel back to 1995 and cuddle Emmett. He definitely needs all the hugs and cuddles he can get after losing his dear Aunt Lula. Brian knew how he would get his mind off of something like that and, despite having a hard time showing it, he was worried about Emmett and I think realizes that he's had it rough due to his openly flamboyant personality. And Ted and Michael would never go along with a game like that. As much as I love both of those characters, they don't have the right demeanor to play. Michael would feel too bad about it and Ted...well, Ted would probably get played and pay for Brian's drinks. XD Although Emmett feels guilty and doesn't want to hurt anyone's feelings, he is able to lay on the charm without hurting most of his victims. Brian doesn't particularly care and I think some of the men are starting to realize that Brian is playing them from the get go.

I'm glad you love young Brian. At this point of his life he is working his way up the totem pole. He knows who he wants to be: a top only stud who fucks thousands of men. But he needs to learn from the current top only studs, not only to dethrone them, but to make his life a little easier. He is also still experimenting at this point, even though he has a goal. He doesn't like to think of himself as a twink but he uses his young age and pretty looks to his advantage. If bottoming for a few studs will get him free E, drinks, or just a good time, then he will go for it. It doesn't mean that he doesn't want to keep it on the DL though. ;) The fact that he told Emmett and bottomed quite submissively right in front of him really does speak volumes on, well, his inebriation, but also in how comfortable he's feeling around him.

I think Simon is probably the one who needs to be careful lolol. Brian is definitely getting to him and, with this Brian, it will only end in heartache. Of course, Brian needs to be careful as well. His "I don't give a shit" ways can really rub people the wrong way.

Brian had to do something. Emmett had his back with Simon and Greg so now he wants to return the favor. As soon as realizes what Emmett had to face and go through, he will get VERY protective.

Thank you for reading and reviewing, Sally! It means a lot!

Awww...I love this! Hard to tell which part I love more, but this is so interesting!! Brian's younger self is very interesting, and very well portrayed again. I can totally see him acting the way he does and Emmett experiencing along with him. I love Emmett, and I can't wait to know what will happen when they will go to see his family. I dread it and anticipate it at the same time. Also, I really like Blossom. Well, I will have to wait to know what you have up your sleeve, but damn..;)

Author's Response:

I'm glad you are enjoying it, Alois! Brian was fun to write this chapter. He is definitely more experimental with what he likes at this point of his life and, if possible, is a bit more wild but also more naive. Emmett is going to have a rough trip but it will be a journey for both of them. :)

P.S. - I will answer your email later tonight since I've had a busy afternoon. ;)

Ha! I thought that was Brian's plan. Brian really needs his friends as much as he can be a out ward friend

Author's Response:

Lol, I don't know if it was his plan when he decided to go with Simon (but knowing Brian, it could have been haha) but Emmett's situation was in the back of his mind. Plus, Emmett proved himself by having Brian's back by going to Simon's, even though prostitution is against his moral code. Brian respects that and wants to return the favor by being there for his friend. :)

I kind of think Brian sort of had that planned - Brian never lets bullies win but often goes about things in a weird roundabout way. After seeing an opportunity he certainly took advantage of it. He provided both money and backup for Emmett.

Emmett is definitely a good friend not letting Brian get in over his head without backup and now Brian is doing the same thing.

Author's Response:

That's exactly it. I don't know if he fully had it planned when he went to Simon's but he did have Emmett and the situation in the back of his mind. He is returning the favor by promising to have Emmett's back on their trip to Hazlehurst. Thank you for reading and reviewing!

Oh wow....this is really taking a somewhat unexpected turn. I dig how Brian was willing to join Emmett on his trip to say his last goodbyes...still very curious as to what happened between Ryan and Emmett.

Author's Response:

I hope it's a good unexpected turn! Brian is willing to join him. Maybe it is because Emmett watched his back with Simon and Greg so now he's going to watch Emmett's. Ryan will be introduced next chapter!

If I didn't know better I would think Brian had it planned that way from the get go.  Learned that Brian isn't always a top, but don't tell anyone.  LOL.

Author's Response:

Lolol, I think he saw opportunity once he realized he wasn't scaring Simon off by the high numbers and was reminded of Emmett's situation. ;) As for topping, he's still working his way up the totem pole at this part of his life. He needs to bottom for some more experienced mentors and establish himself before becoming the big bad top haha. Thank you for reading and reviewing! It means a lot!

I love this story! It's very interesting, intense, well thought out and incredibly in-canon. I like Brian and Emmett's interaction. It was pretty obvious that there was something special about their relationship - something we just didn't get to see in the show. I always wanted to learn how their friendship developed, and now - thanks to you - I have this oppotrunity. I believe every word of it - your descriptions are very talented and captivating.

This chapter was so touching! Honestly, I expected Brian to do something about Emmett's problem from that very scene when he tried to console him (in his own unique way). And when Emmett didn't take the money Brian offered him, I felt that Brian would eventually solve this problem no matter what it took. You managed to show his interest in it, his desire to help, and it looked amazingly natural - as if it was the way it should be.

Thank your for this wonderful piece! Can't wait for more!

By the way, I love your other stories as well :)

Author's Response:

I'm glad you like it, Aliada! I always wanted to see more of the relationship between Brian and Emmett. Although we didn't see it often, the scenes we did see we're always telling and meaningful. I'm also glad you think they are being believably portrayed!

I think it's possible that Brian had Emmett's situation in the back of his mind when he eventually accepted Simon's proposition. Originally it was to deter Simon, or at least remind him that their relationship is not romantic in any form. But Brian is what he said he is earlier in the chapter: an opportunist. And Emmett being Emmett couldn't leave Brian to fend for himself, despite his moral code being at conflict. I think Brian appreciated it and that helped his resolve more (once he sobered up) to make sure Emmett got the closure he needed.

It will definitely be a strange, upsetting, and revealing adventure for Emmett and Brian! Hope you stick around for it! :) Thank you for reading and reviewing!

I remember the scene where Brian and Michael are riding in the jeep and Michael says he can't believe Brian is thinking of fucking telson to get his account and Brian says "I've done worse"

i am certain Brian traded sex or the promise of sex for drinks or other things.  It's nothing new.  Women have been doing for a long time.  I think that asking for money was new.  Brian said he thought it would get Simon to back off but it backfired and his drunken self just went with the flow.

Emmett following him was a bit surprising.  He has a strong moral code that wouldn't allow for this but the same code says you don't abandon a friend and that won out.

Brian being the twink is not surprising even though most fics seem to think that he stopped that long ago.  You can't get to be as good at sex as he is without knowing all sides.  Plus he still doesn't have the power that comes with a few more years, money and a top job.

Emmett lacks the core of self confidence he had in canon and it makes me very sad.  He is still too close to hazel hurst time wise and still doesn't have a place that he can really call home and belong.  The friendships too new and his trust issues haven't been resolved yet.

loving this fic Annie Eliza!

Author's Response:

Hi, Alnwick!

I thought of that scene while writing this chapter. I feel like Brian had to move up the totem pole, prove himself, and wait until he was more established before becoming the ultimate top of Liberty Avenue. I'm also sure he faced post-college financial problems most other graduates of lower to lower middle class families do. And you're right, he would need to know all sides and learn from the best of that time in order to take note on how to get where he needs to be. At this point, time wise, he's mostly proven himself as a top but is still young and enjoys manipulating older men to get what he wants. He's still making a name for himself and exploring, even if he wants his friends to believe he has already established himself as someone who only tops. But if he can get something out of bottoming, like a free night of fun or for someone to sign with Ryder, he'll do it (usually discreetly or while his friends aren't around.)

I went back and forth on whether Emmett should go with him or not. At first, I was going to have Emmett stay behind and have Michael come and get him and the jeep. But, although it's against his nature and moral code to accept money for sex, it is more against his moral code to let Brian go alone. As for Brian, he really did think it would get Simon to back off a little or at least remind him of their arrangement, but it was $4000 and I do think Brian did have Emmett's situation in the back of his mind when he decided to go.

Although Emmett is sweet, hopeful, and outgoing, he still has a lot of issues to work out at this point. It is quite sad because a beautiful person like Emmett should never have to question himself.

I am so glad you are liking this story! Hope you enjoy the rest! Thank you for reviewing!
