What a lovely long chapter.  Someone should record Mel's breakdown so she can see how badly she acts.  Things were going good until some homophobes hit Justin over the head!  Then Ted almost undoes the great work Brian, Gus and Shane did.  Looking foreward to seeing Gus and Shane taking over Kinnetik.

Author's Response:

I'm so glad you liked this chapter!  I think that Gus and Shane will do a terrific job of taking over Kinnetik...although there will probably be a little bump-in-the-road, or two, during the process :)

This is my favourite story, love it so much! I always enjoy reading every second of it, especially as I think it's so in character and I can imagine that the future played out just like that.

Thank You for updating this incredible story :)

Author's Response:

Thank you so much!  I'm delighted that you are still enjoying this story!

I'm happy you can see the "reality" of the future with these special characters. I've tried to keep everyone as in-character as I could, taking into consideration how they would each evolve and grow with time, age, and maturity.

The next chapter will be updated soon :)

Bullying of any kind should not be tolerated.  And if the fight wasn't witnessed by an adult they both should have been suspended not just one because he was gay.

It sucks that Brian had to threaten with money but unfortunately that's the society we live in.

Such a satisfying chapter.  I love how you write such long, gratifying updates to this story.  Justin, Brian, Gus and Shane consistently show their love and respect for one another.  Shadow was a perfect name for their puppy.  I find it interesting that Brian and Justin serve as role models for almost everyone in this story.  Brian has come such a long way.

Reviewer: Elaine (Anonymous) · Date: May 17, 2016 09:27 PM · On: Chapter 18

So I was thiiiiiiiiiiiiis close to tears of joy when I saw this update!! I had just finished re-reading this for the upmteenth time. :) Both of the series are just brilliant!

what a great chapter. Loved everything about it! It's so nice being able to sit down and just read for awhile. A very long well-written (and well read) chapter.

Gus and Shane........*sigh* while for many I'd agree that they are both young, but there's something about Gus that oozes maturity. He's seem to always known what he wants and goes after it, yet he's also patient enought to wait for the right timing. they make a great pair those 2, and with the support of B&J as well as supportive family members. I somehow don't see Lindsey reacting well to the news, but oh well......tough titties!! haha.

shadow should be an intersting addition. Animals always add a fun aspect. They tend to soften en the wildest and hardest of hearts. Brian may want to think he's an asshole, but we all know differently. He's just a marshmallow and he's shown it once again with Shadow.

Glad ben adn Micheal werea ble to come around. It's hard to have to let go of your kids, espcecially for them as they only just got her, but they needed to let her live her life and make her choices. Good thing the otheres were able to make them see things correctly.

Seems like almost everyone is growing up and will be starting to live their own lives. Well, kinda. I had to laugh at how Gus adn Shane were still wanting to live with B&J. usually with kids that age it's arace out the door, but with them, it just the opposite. show what a terrific relatioship they have with Dad adn poppa.

So good. Sooo happy. So relieved!!

Many thanks!

cheers,

Elaine

Author's Response:

Tears of joy can be a good thing :)  I'm delighted that posting the latest chapter made you so happy!  I greatly appreciate your wonderful feedback!  It's so good to know that you enjoyed both of my series stories!

This latest chapter was indeed very busy; a lot of things going on.  Gus isn't a typical young man, he's mature beyond his years, and he's also inherited a lot of his father's characteristics.  One of them being the ability to make choices and never second-guess himself or ever regret his decisions.  For sure, he and Shane are a great couple, and both of them have the full support of Brian and Justin.  (Like you said, if Lindsay doesn't react well to it...tough titties) LOL!!

I think that Shadow will continue to be a positive and lovable addition to the Kinney family (especially for Brian).  You're right...isn't it amazing how sometimes having a pet can turn many hardened hearts into complete marshmallows :)  Then again, Brian has always had a soft spot in his heart, though he didn't want to show it often.

Ben and Michael eventually came around in favor of Jenny Rebecca going away to college.  Parenting isn't always easy, and it doesn't come with an instruction manual.  Their initial response would probably be kinda normal for a lot of parents.  Luckily, Jenny Rebecca did have the others there to help and support her.

Gus and Shane are certainly unique young men, and their relationship with Brian and Justin, as fathers and sons, is very special and rare.  The two 'youngsters' truly like spending time with the dads.

Thank you immensely for your encouragment and comments!!

Sláinte!

It's always a joy to see another chapter of this story.  They are always long and informative.  We have Brian and Justin moving to Britin.  Gus and Shane getting engaged.  A new puppy, who shadows Brian.  And then for the angst we have Mikey and Ben wanting to keep Jenny Rebecca from going to the college of her choice.  Thank goodness you always give us a happy ending and a chance to wait for more!!!!

I just discovered this. It was mentioned in FB and i thought I'd take a look. I didn't read the first installment yet, but do so for sure. This still made sense though.

Can I just say WOW! I love your portraysl of the characters! I love all teh angst and teh family entanglements. At times so gut wrentching and at others, it made me smile. Through out it all I completely taken in. I love fics like this. Where teh story is realistic. That B&J are so strong and supportive of each other. Gus and Jenny are portrayed beaurifully!! Seeing how they lived when with the gorls, compared to now, lifing with their perspective fathers. How they are so incredibly supportive of each other. Micheal is still pretty self absorbed at times, but at least he's able to come down from his emotionally charged rants and see reality.

I know you updated about a month ago, and I get why it takes awhile for new chapters. they are incredibly long! I love that! I enjoy being able to take an hour or so to read a chapter.

Having said that, I'm definitely waiting on baited breath for a new chapter. :) I can see this is going to be one of those fics where I put it on my kindle as is so I can go back and read it comfortably again as I wait.

Thank you!!!!! thanhk you for giving us this wonderful story.

Cheers!

Elaine

Author's Response:

Thank you so very much, Elaine, for your insightful and wonderful feedback!  I'm utterly thrilled that you are enjoying this story :)  My goal was to make it as canon as possible, yet also taking into consideration that the characters have aged, that Brian and Justin are full-time fathers to Gus, who is now in his early twenties and has a steady boyfriend, and that Ben and Michael are fathers to a teenaged girl who is a lesbian, and has a girlfriend, in addition to the quote, normal, life experiences we all gain through the years.

In the prequel to this story, it has much, much shorter chapters, and I also ended most of them with cliffhangers.  I made a conscious decision this time that I would not leave any cliffhangers on the chapters.  I've received only positive feedback to the very long chapters in this story, so I've continued on with it.  I'm so happy you too, enjoy them!

This story certainly has moments of angst, though I've tried to keep some of it 'light', and sometimes even humorous, while other times are indeed more emotional.  I've had the most enjoyable time in bringing Gus and Jenny Rebecca to life in this story; first as children, then as teenagers, and now into early adultood.  I could only imagine that their brother/sister bond with each other would be a strong one, as their mothers usually seemed so focused on their careers, and also bickered quite often.  As now as young adults, I trust it would only continue to grow.

There are a few aspects to Michael's personality that will never change.  On the show, he displayed moments of maturity (in his mind), and even criticized Brian for being an "over the hill club boy", at least by his standards.  Yet there were times when his "old" behaviors would come to the surface (as is common in real life).  But I believe that now, in this particular story, when they do, he is more apt to listen to reason, and make changes accordingly when a situation calls for it; though it might take a little time to get to that point.

When the series ended, I truly believed that Brian was completely in love with Justin, and the changes he was willing to make came from a sincere heart.  He might not have had a clear understanding of some aspects of what being in a committed relationship meant, and was a little misguided internally, as he was putting what he thought Justin wanted him to be in the forefront.  But then we remember that he had never seen in his own life an honest example of love between his own parents, so he didn't have any true resources to refer to.  It would understandably take him and Justin a bit of time to work through it all and to find the balance in their relationsip, but I believe they both would feel that each other was worth whatever they invested into the relationship.  Brian admitting his love to Justin was the first major step in that direction; their journey could only continue from there :)  They do experience bumps in the road, but their amazingly tight connection to one anoter, based on honesty, seems to always get them through.

Thanks again for your thoughtful comments!

Sláinte!

Aislin

Thank you very, very much for your supportive feedback and ongoing encouragement! :)

Thank you.
Wonderful long chapter. Brian and Justin should have no qualms about having Gus and Shane working for Kinnetik when they retire.
Jenny, to be abandoned by her mother and to feel it more is tough. Good thing she has Ben.
Cancer scare...happy it was a mistake.

Author's Response:

You're very welcome :)  I'm so delighted you liked this chapter.  Indeed, Gus and Shane have learned a lot about Kinnetik and have proven their business skills to Brian and Justin.  We'll have to see where that all leads...

Jenny Rebecca still has some issues with her moms, but thankfully, she has a huge support system with her dads, brother, grandparents, and her uncles, especially with B & J.

I appreciate your encouraging feedback immensely!!  Thank you very much!!

Great chapter, nice and long, lots of stuff going on.  So glad the cancer return was a mistake.

Author's Response:

Thanks, Bill!  I'm thrilled you enjoyed this chapter!  It was another long and informative one, to be sure.

The cancer scare was intense, yet I like to show how through the years, Brian no longer keeps anything from Justin, and in fact, has learned to lean on him and accept his husband's unwavering support.

Thank you so very much for your ongoing support and encouragement!  Greatly appreciated!!

How lovely to find another update to your story. So, well crafted and it must take a lot of time and dedication to prepare the next instalment. I like that all roads seem to heading back to Britin & Pittsburgh. Characters very close to canon while at the same time in a different but related contexts.

Author's Response:

I'm so delighted you enjoyed reading this chapter!  Your encouraging comments are so appreciated!!

I tried to keep the characters as close to canon as possible, yet also take into consideration the years that have passed, in which everyone has also evolved and grown through life experiences.  Brian and Justin, now that they've been married for more than 10 years and been totally monogomous, and the fact that their son is now in his early twenty's, would likely handle a situation differently than they would have 20 years ago.  Yet, their personalities are still the same.  I hope I've been able to keep true to that dynamic and found the balance :)

Thank you imeensely for your support of the story!!

Reviewer: YumYumPM (Signed) · Date: March 12, 2016 04:47 PM · On: Chapter 17

You always give us such lovely long chapters that it is well worth the wait.  Poor Jenny Rebecca.  It's a good thing she has Gus and Ben as well as Brian and Justin.  Michael tends to think of how things effect him more than his daughter.  The sell of Kinnetik NY seems to be going over well.  But then you put a scare into Brian about cancer!  I'm glad you didn't leave us with a cliff hanger and that it was all a mistake.

Author's Response:

I'm so glad you enjoyed this capter!

Jenny Rebecca indeed has a strong and loving support system.  Michael still sometimes doesn't see the whole picture about certain things, but he eventually comes around...thankfully :)

The sell of the New York office of Kinnetik was big decision.  Brian never makes a decision he isn't 100% sure about, and with Justin being the main reason, he knows he's done the right thing.  And he is truly happy about it.

Thank you so much for your feedback and for your ongoing support of this story!!  I appreciate it immensely!!

That's a wonderful story and I love it but I wonder why they don't go to a doctor.

They have the money and there are so many new medical research out there.

Just an opinion.........

Author's Response:

Justin and Brian have been to the doctor several times in the past, regarding Justin's hand.  (I've written about it a few times during the coarse of this story.)  The problem is that there is no cure for the 'side effects' Justin suffered from his bashing, which included brain damage to a section of his brain that controls motor skills.  Also in this story, Justin has developed rheumatoid arthritis, which in itself, also stiffens the hand and causes the joints to become swollen, sore, and bulbous.  Tere is medication to  to ease the symptoms of the arthritis, but it too is an unfortunate illness for which there is no cure.

Thank you for your insightful feedback and suggestions!  I truly and greatly appreciate your input!!

Is the plan for Brian and Justin (or maybe not Justin) to work in the PA office?   A bonus would be they'd be with their "family" especially JR and Gus/Shane.  I hope so, I love the business Brian...

Author's Response:

Oh, I'm sorry, I can't give away any spoilers about Brian and Justin :o

However, I can say that their family, including the kids, Gus, Shane, and Jenny, will always 'stick together'.

Yep, business Brian can be a force to be reckoned with; he has a brilliant business sense.

Wonderful update.  I am so impressed with the length of your chapters.  Brian and Justin have such a wonderful relationship and are such great role models for Gus and Shane.  I absolutely loved the confrontation between Justin and Craig.

I never want this story to end!

Author's Response:

I'm so grateful you like the long chapters!

Yes, Brian and Justin do have an amazing marriage, and they are indeed excellent roll models for the boys.

I'm deligted you liked the confrontation between Craig and the Kinney's.  Justin finally got his say :)

Thank you so very much for reading, and for your encouraging comments!  Both are greatly appreciated!!

I love these long chapters - very rich and full of character. Craig is unbelievable - Jennifer was so lucky to wise up and leave him. I like the way Brian protected Justin and Justin allowing him.

With the selling of the New York branch I'm feeling a bit confused - I don't know whether to be angry with Brian for not telling Justin straight away because he's trying to protect him or sympathize with him because he's trying to protect Justin.....talk about complicated. At least Brian is planning carefully. And with less pressure Justin should fare much better.

Author's Response:

Thank you so much!  I do try to pack a lot of information into each chapter :)  I'm delighted you enjoy reading them!

Brian has always shown his protectiveness towards Justin, and as the years go by, I believe that aspect only strengthens.  With age and a bit more maturity, I think Justin realizes there are times when he needs to let Brian know he appreciates his protective nature.

Regarding Kinnetik, Brian's motives were pure of heart.  He didn't tell Justin initially for two reasons: one, he knew Justin would argue the point with him and try to insist he not sell it, and two, the most important, was if he had told him about it at the very beginning, which was at the time when Justin's hand was giving him extreme complications and affecting the quantity of his work at Kinnetik, it would have taken a hit on Justin's self esteem.  He would know undoubtedly that Brian was selling because of him, and neither man would ever condone the other making that much of a sacrifice for the other.  It was yet anoter spectre of Brian believing he was protecting Justin.

Thanks for your supportive feedback and for readng the story!  I apreciate both, immensely!

Wow! That was a heavy chapter. I see Brian's point, but wow! What a gift to Justin and himself.

Author's Response:

There was a lot going on in this chapter.  Brian's intentions and goals were heartfelt, and centered on helping Justin.  Justin may have been upset at first, but he realized how incredibly important he still is to Brian.

Thanks for commenting!  I'm delighted you're enjoying the story and greatly appreciate your continued support!

This is a great story and I am so glad you didn't make us wait until the next chapter to find out what Brian was up to.  It's hard to imagine him not working, so that shoud be interesting to watch.  I love B&J in love like this....so special.

Now, I just have to comment with respect.  WHY is Brian still smoking?  I mean seriously, with his BP/heart issues it's not smart.  I think there is no way Justin would smoke still, especially not in front of Brian...and he would probably actively try to get Brian to quit.  I know this is a work of fiction, but everytime he lights up I cringe...please quit Brian!!

Thanks for giving us this wonderful story anyway.  I love it.  Peace.

Author's Response:

I'm so happy you're enjoying this story!

I totally agree that it's difficult to imagine Brian not working...we'll have to wait and see how that aspect plays out :)

Brian and Justin indeed have a very special and loving relationship; I'm so glad you like how they interact with each other.

Brian still struggles with his various vices, one of which is cigarettes.  I agree that in this verse, where he has blood pressure and heart issues, it would be better for him to stop.  If he does quit, Justin would certainly support him, like you said :)

Thank you so much for reading and for your insightful feedback!  I appreciate both, immensely!

Author's Response:

Thanks, Bill!  I'm so delighted to hear you enjoyed this chapter!

The interaction between Brian and Justin is indeed special.  I'm glad to know you like how intuned with one another they are.  (Even on the TV show, they seemed to have this level of ease, and being comfortable and expressive with one another, and could seem to read each other.  I tried to expound on those aspects and how their behaviors and reactions could be canon, but also mature as they aged.)

I agree, I think that Gus will have a 'queen out' moment when he finds out about Kinnetik, ha ha.

Wow.  Several things occurred to me.  Brian and Justin are truly not their fathers.  Craig really expected Justin to bail him out, irregardless of how he'd treated Justin over the years.  I would dearly love to know why he needs money.  Gus is not his father, he even gave him advice.  Now as to the sell of Kinnetik, I feel that Brian should have discussed it first with Justin, because even starting all inquires Justin is 1/2 owner and as such should have been involved.  At first I thought he might be turning the business over to Gus and Shane, guess I was wrong.  Exciting chapter.

Author's Response:

Very true, Brian and Justin are nothing like their fathers...thankfully :)   And they together have become wonderful dads to Gus, and treat Jenny Rebecca and Shane like they were also their kids.

Gus is an insightful young man and is very attentive to what's going on around him (at least in that way he IS like Brian).  It was good to see im giving is dad elpful and caring advice.

Brian's intentions of starting the process of selling Kinnetik New York without Justin's initial knowledge, were pure, and his heart was in the right place.  There's definately more to come regarding Kinnetik, but I can't give away any spoilers ;)

Thank you so much for your thoughtful feedback, and for reading the story!  Both are so apprecited!  I'm thrilled to have your continued support and encouragement!

My heart was constantly pounding with anxiety and joy as i read this chapter. Craig deserved that dressing down, Shane Gus, and Molly are happier than they have been in quite awhile...and Brian is selling Kinnetik NY...WOW! Keep it coming my friend.

Author's Response:

I'm so very grateful for your encouraging words, my friend!  Thank you :)

I gotta agree, there were several moments in the chapter wondering exactly what clever Brian was up to.  Now we'll have to see how that part plays out...uh-oh.

Yep, the kids are all much happier in their lives now, though a few more 'growing pains' may yet appear :)

I agree...Craig deserved everything that was said, forcing him to face the truth.  And Justin surely is a far better man than Criag ever was.

I want to congratulate you on a beautifully written emotional rollercoaster of a story. It is certainly one of the best I've read in a long time. Thank you.

I think you've hit the nail on the head as far as Mels motivations are with her kids and her career. She acts as though they are possessions and only pays attention to them when others question her actions. Her treatment of Jenny is heartbreaking. At times she seems to understand how appallingly she is behaving but her career is simply too important to her to change.

Lindsay seems in complete and utter denial though. I'm struggling to find any rationale behind her actions. She appears totally under Mels thumb, yet she had the wherewithall to have an affair. Yet she couldn't find the backbone to go against Mel, even a little, when it comes to her kids? It's utterly infuriating.

Anyway, enough ranting. I look forward to the next updates. I really don't want this story to end

Author's Response:

Thank you immensley for your kind and thoughtful words!  I'm so thrilled to know you are enjoying this story!

Yes, Mel is a unique and selfish character in this fic, and her actions are indeed appalling.  Lindsay, as well, is a bit complex, and not in a positive way.  Thank goodness that Jenny Rebecca is now with her dads :)

Another brilliant chapter. Laughed at the first part - seems like Jenny has some serious, somewhat 'awkward' and much needed discussions in her near future. I'm quite surprised by Lindsay and Mel's attitude to sex. At least Gus had his dads to give him insight to a loving relationship as well as the 'much needed' safe sex talk - I can just imagine what Brian had to say.....LOL The editorial Justin wrote was brilliant. I wanted to 'bitch slap' Michael - everything is always about him. Hopefully with Jenny living with them he'll learn that your child's well-being is a priority - but then maybe not..... At least Brian and Justin have it right. Such a shame about Justin - that was one thing about the show that bugged me - the judge didn't care about the problems that Justin had at the time nor did he think about the long term problems such an injury would incur and the impact on Justin's life - homophobic prick - yeah, I know, I'm ranting. Speaking from experience, it hurts 'soul deep' when old injuries impact your life to the point you feel the things you love doing slipping away. You make adjustments, put on a brave face and 'soldier on'. Finding alternatives helps but never completely fills the loss. I really feel for Justin - the coming months aren't going to be easy. As an intelligent and thoughtful man and with Brian's help, he'll find a way. Great job - looking forward to the next chapter.

Author's Response:

I'm incredibly grateful for your insightful comments!  I am very delighted you enjoyed this chapter, and it's humorous beginning :)

Jenny does have a few things to learn about intimacy.  Bless her heart, she's a lesbian surrounded by a family of gay men.  Maybe Debbie will have a few helpful conversations with her.   Being a teenager isn't easy, but I'm confident she'll be okay :)

Justin's rebutal editorial was the one thing that took the longest to write, because it was emotionally intense, but not only from the character Justin's viewpoint, but also because it carries a deeper message that applies in real life, even today.  I'm just so happy to know that it was inspiring, and made a positive impact :)

I agree with you 100% about how the judge in the TV show dealt with Justin's bashing.  It was deplorable!  Now, Justin's other issue with rheumatoid arthritis knoting the joints in his fingers, only makes his pre-existing difficulties of his right hand, worse.  You're right, people learn to make adjustments and 'soilder on', but it's not easy, and the feeling of loss is always there.  Thankfully, in this story, Brian offers Justin his unending and loving support.

Thank you so very much for reading, and for your supportive feedback!!  I appreciate both, immensely!!

The rebuttal to the editorial made this a powerful chapter. Michael's childness is something hell never grow out of. Pity for Ben and Jenny.
Shane have a great example of what a loving couple and an accepting family is. Lucky.
Think Mel and Lindsay should just stay away. I don't feel that Jenny needs them.
I adore these long long chapters and now I can't wait for the next update.

Author's Response:

Thank you so much!  I'm truly trilled you liked the powerful editorial of Justin's rebutal in this chapter!  It was an intense moment of of the story, and I also hoped it was encouraging, too...glad to know that it was :)

Shane does have a great and loving example of family dynamics from Gus, Brian, and Justin.

Jenny is indeed very happy now with her life and living with her dads.   Also, from this point onward in the story, we won't hear much from Mel or Lindsay.

I'm very glad you are enjoying the long chapters, and I immensely appreciate your supportive feedback!!

Yes, Brian and Justin have a marvelous and very special relationship.  And in helping Justin to deal with the difficulties of his hand, Brian continues to show his depth of love and support for him, in many ways.

Thanks for reading! I'm delighted you enjoyed the humor in this chapter!  There is often so much emotion in this story, I wanted to inject a bit of playful banter :)

This was an emotion packed chapter.  I'm pleased that the interaction with Lindsay and Mel were kept to a minimun.  There was enough screaming and shouting from Michael.  All his 'it's all about me, me, me!' shit had me wanting to smack him.  I think Justin did the right thing on both the editorial and the new work policy.  You done good and I'm alway excited to read another chapter from you.

The Lindsay and Mel componant will be at a minimum from this point onward in the story.  We might, however, see a couple more queen-out moments from Michael.  Yes, getting him to grasp a concept can sometimes be difficult, and can incite thoughts of smacking him, LOL!

So happy to find your update! And what a chapter - again. So many emotions!

Jenny finally with her dads for good - yeah! But Mel .... I have no words. And not to forget Lindsay, Shane absolutely hit the nail on the head about her behavior. Great!

And then Shane finally revealing his own personal tragedy ... poor boy. Good for him to have Gus at his side - and Brian and Justin, too.

Looking forward to more :)

Author's Response:

Yes, a lot of emotions filled this chapter.  Having so many emotions was inevitable really, dealing mainly with the custody battle over J.R.  But, happily, she is now with her dads!! :)

Shane indeed hit the nail on the head, and with so few words he got the meaning across loud and clear.  With Shane now having been open about his past and telling about his own homopobic father, I think that Brian in particular, will now look on him differently, in a more understanding and empathetic way.  And you're rigt...gladly, Shane also has Gus by his side, as well as having Justin's support in addition to Brian's.

Is it me or Emmet and Drew aren't in the 2nd part of your story ?

By the way, I'm a little bit aggravated because I read this part of the story before "To be or not to be" because I didn't know it was a sequel. It is better to know before reading them !! It's an amazing story who trully should be read in order...

I can't wait to know what you have in store for their fammilly. Your plots are incredible, full of emotion and I love those stories !

Author's Response:

I'm immensely grateful for your comment about the sequel, "To Be, Or Not To Be."  I should have put that bit of information in the summary section of this story, but I guess I simply overlooked it.  However, thankfully, it as now been corrected :)

Regarding Emmett and Drew...I've mentioned them in this story, although only very briefly.  I didn't have any intentions on omitting or ignoring them, and I definately have nothing negative regarding either character.  This second part of the story focuses mainly on the lives of Gus, J.R., Brian, and Justin, but Emmett and Drew will be mentioned a few more times :)

I ran the gamut of emotions reading this chapter. I laughed, cried, fumed and empathized. Thank everything holy that J.R. is right where she needs to be. Gus made me so proud for giving Lindsay a true picture of herself...the same goes in regards to the way J.R. handled Mel.

Poor Shane though...how can a parent be that cruel? I hope for his sake that he gets the chance to tell his father how he really feels. Excellent work as always.

Author's Response:

It was an emotional chapter, pretty much covering the spectrum, but I tried to offset it by having some humorous moments :)  I'm so thrilled to hear that you enjoyed reading it!!

You are absolutely right...thankfully, J.R. is exactly where she needs to be!  Yes, both Gus and J.R. were very brave to stand up to their moms. (I'm glad you liked that part!)  Gus and J.R. toldl Mel and Lindsay EXACTLY how they felt, and how their moms' lack of involvement in their lives had affected them both.  They're good kids, and both have a set of fathers who are determined to do everything they can for them, and to always be there when they need them.

Unfortunately, Shane's fater falls into the same catagory as Jack Kinney and Craig Taylor; although he's proably worse.  However, the silver lining is that Brian and Justin can relate to Shane in the area of having a bad father.  It's a wonderful thing for Shane to now have the support of Gus, Brian, and Justin.  Having 2 father-figures in his life is promising.

I am so very appreciative for your thoughtful and insightful comments!!  Your ongoing support and encouragement truly means a lot!!  Thank you!!

I got the feeling during the show and now here in this chapter, Mel never really wanted to be a mother. She just wanted to prove she could. I think that why in the show she went and had the operation to clear her endometreosus (sp).
Anyhow, Brian hit it right on the head. It was always about the case. Proof in point was how you had her say good-bye to Jenny. She'll be much better without Mel and Lindsay.
Amazing how quickly Shane became attuned to the onset of Gus' anxiety and panic attacks. Certainly made good in Brian's book. He has a whole new family. It's what he needs. His father belongs right up there vying for father of the year with Jack and Craig.
This is a wonderful story, and you're doing a great job.

Author's Response:

Thank you so very much!!

I totally agree with you...I got the same impression when watching the show about Mel being a mother.  In one episode, right after Mel discovered she was pregnant, Mel stated to Lindsay she'd, "Never be the type of moter who would be willing to give everything up to be with their kid 24/7."  Mel's life centered on her career, and in this story, with harsh consequences.  Yes, the goodbye scene was sad for sweet J.R., yet I thought it fit with the whole of Mel's behavior.  I don't think it would have worked had Mel been emotional, sentimental, or motherly, as we haven't seen those aspects to her character in this story.

I believe that Shane, at 26-years-old, would have a more deliberate focus after Gus told him all about his tragic accident.  He was then able to observe Gus and become more attuned to him.  Also, the very first time Gus ever met Shane, he had a panic attack right in front of him.  And Shane also witnessed a few more, directly after that.

Indeed, Shane is definately growing on our illustrious Brian Kinney :)  And Shane now has the support of the three Kinney men.

I'm immensely grateful for your continued support and encouraging words!  It's so wonderful to hear that you are enjoying the story, and your insightful feedback is much apprecited!!

What a great chapter.  I'm so glad the Mikey and Ben got custody of Jenny Rebecca.  Really if their lawyer had let Mel and Linds lawyer see the video Gus had made it would have made a world of difference.  Their lawyer would have had to have been a total dick to not be moved.  It's so sad about Shane, but he's got Gus now.

Author's Response:

I'm so delighted to know you enjoyed this capter!!  Thank you!!

I struggled with the decision on whether or not to put the video in this chapter to help with J.R.'s custody case, as far as the other lawyer and the rest of the family seeing it.  I chose not to use it though, due to the fact that the situation was already very emotional.  I didn't want to add additional turmoil to J.R., or to Gus, as by this part of the story, the siblings had been through quite a lot already.

I think Jenny Rebecca will be very happy with her dads.  There migt be a few amusing moments as they adjust, but it's to be expected :)

Yes, it's wonderful that Shane has Gus, (and Brian and Justin's support, too!)  Shane has been through his own heartbreak, but he and Gus together share a bond that is growing.

I'm so incredibly thankful for your continued encouragement and feedback, and for all of your support of this story!!

Look like Mel had lost Jenny as well as Gus. There will be no turning back if she to make it tough situation.

Dun give Jenny a hard time on this custody thing. Please make it light for her as she dun deserve it.

As always Brian is wonderful and thoughtful when come to Justin hand situation. Well is a good thing that Brian begin to be more receptive towards Shane.

Thank you for this wonderful chapter. Next chapter plssss.

Author's Response:

I think that Mel has some fight left in her, and the next chapter will reveal the showdown for Jenny Rebecca's permanenet custody :o

Yes, Brian and Justin are so wonderful together, and I really wanted to higlight that fact in this story.  No matter what obsticles life gives them, they face it together.

Wow! This was good stuff, like a soap opera. I know I'm hooked. Soooooo glad JR is outta there. Mel was losin' it!  Also glad to see Shane is continuing to be good for Gus.

Author's Response:

Thanks!! :)  It does read a bit like a soap opera, doesn't it?  I hand't thought about that aspect before :)  I am so delighted to know you are enjoying the story!!

Yep, JR is now with her dads, but the next chapter will reveal the battle for her permanent custody.

I think that Shane and Gus are good together, and they are good for each other.  More will appear in upcoming chapters about their relationsip, as it blossoms.

I'm very appreciative of your continued support of this story, and your perceptive and encouraging comments!  Thank you so much!

Can't wait for the custody hearing. After listening to Ms Malone, couldn't Lindsay and Mel be charged with kidnapping themselves?

That Justin's hand seems to be getting worse at times, worries me. Brian's pressure and stress problems too.

Author's Response:

The custody battle will appear in the next chapter, and we'll find out who wins permanent custody of JR...oh, my :)   You make a very valid point regarding Mel and Lindsay potentially being charged with kidnapping.  Since Brian and Michael gave their verbal consent years ago , even though it wasn't legally binding, neither one had been aware of that fact at the time, and they'd told the two women that they had teir 'blessing' to take the kids to Canada.  Presently, Michael's only concern is winning the permanent custody case for his daugter, which hopefully, will all work out in Jenny Rebecca's favor.

I know it's sad to see that Justin's hand getting worse as he gets older, as well as knowing that Brian's heart and blood pressue issues are compounded by the intense stress of his job.  More will occur in upcoming chapters regarding both of those problems.

Thank you so very much for your insightful comments and ongoing support, I appreciate them immensely!  I'm so happy to know you are enjoying this story!!

Yes, you're right...  Altough our boys may face some diffucult situations, Brian and Justin always stay by each other's side and support one another.

Finally Jenny is out of her vile mother's clutches.  She has some definite anger issues.  I'm glad Brian is finally accepting Shane.

Author's Response:

It is a great relief to have Jenny with her dads.  The next chapter, however, will have the 'showdown' between the family, with JR's moms and dads, each vying for permanent custody.

Brian is slowly adjusting to Shane, so he has some moments of acceptance that are better than others :)

Author's Response:

Awww...I'm glad the tears are happy ones ;)

I completely understand about wanting to strangle Mel.  I htink there might be a few people in line for that one, LOL!  We'll discover in the next chapter what happens in regards to JR's permanent custody.

Author's Response:

Jenny is safe and with her family. Mel and Linds got what they deserved.  Well, not all that they deserved but I'm confident that you will punish them good.

Here's hoping temporary becomes permanent custody but then there may be no more story, how sad.

Do you have a lot of twists and turns in your head / heart?

Author's Response:

Yes, gratefully, Jenny is safe and sound living with her dads!  Mel and Lindsay, along with the rest of the family, will all come together in the next chapter, for the purpose of determining permanenet custody of JR.  But even after that particular outcome is established, there is much more to this story as a whole, before it ends :)

There will be a few more twists and turns, but the only thing I can say about that (without giving away any spoilers) is that this family always sticks togeter to support one another.

Thank you very much for reading and for your thoughtful  comments!!  I appreciate both, so immensely!!

Another great lovely long chapter. The custody twists are surprising - Mel should have covered her back better but then it's a good thing she didn't - she probably would never have been found out if she just let Jenny see her dads without all the shit she caused. It's good to see the kids are where they're the happiest - those girls need to learn if you're going to have kids they become a priority (I could go on a complete rant right now about selfish and harmful parenting - but I'm sure you get the idea...) Now that the kids are sorted I'm starting to feel a little worried about Justin. Getting older and having painful joints from previous injuries beginning to hinder the things I love doing and feeling like I'm losing part of myself, I feel complete sympathy for Justin. Drugs are helpful but the side affects suck. Justin's heart must be slowly breaking knowing that bit by bit he's losing the use of his hand. I love how you show Brian's love and understanding. Looking forward to the next chapter.

Author's Response:

Thank you so much for your dedicated, ongoing supoort of this story!  I'm greatly apprecitive of your insightful feedback!

Regarding Mel...sometimes in life, it is the simplest things that go unnoticed or get overlooked (which in this case was a good thing).  I'm certain that she never thought about the aspect of JR's custody or citizenship being callenged, at least by Michael.  Unfortunately for her, she also didn't give consideration to the fact that if Brian ever found out, coupled with her sore lacking of parenting skills, that he wouldn't do someting to help JR.  The next chaper will reveal the solution to JR's permanent custody.  I completely understand about wanting to rant against selfish and harmful parenting :)

You're exactly right about how previous injuries to one's joints only compounds and worsens with age.  It isn't pleasant, and actually becomes more painful and debilitating.  Brian is certainly Justin's stronghold through it all, however it doesn't make the situation any less heartbreaking for Justin, as you said.

I'm so very delighted you enjoyed this chapter!!  Thank you again for reading and commenting!

I want to thank you for gettin Jenny out of that home and back to Pittsburgh.  I'm not sure how Mel can defend her actions to the court and expect to win.  Poor Justin, his hand is not getting better.  Shane and Gus are so cute together.

Author's Response:

It is indeed a great relief to see Jenny now safely in both of her dads' care :)  The answer to her permanent custody, though, will be revealed in the next chapter.

I, too, like the dynamics of Gus and Shane together.  I think they'll continue to be a good match for each other.

It's sad that Justin's hand is getting worse as he gets older.  Yet through it all, Brian is at his side :)

I can't thank you enough, my dear friend, for your wonderfully encouraging comments!

There was a lot happening in this chapter, and the next one will also be full of action; we'll find out the solution of Jenny's custody battle.

Gus and Shane are a neat couple, although Brian is still struggling at times about accepting the fact his son is in love :)  But we wouldn't want Brian any other way, LOL!

Mel and Lindsay clearly have issues.  A bit more light will be shed on that aspect, too, in the next chapter.

Mm... Look like Shane Ryan is not in Brian good book. Ok you will not make Shane to come in between Brian and Justin. Hope my guessing is right.

1 more episode to go, catching up on your story is done.

Author's Response:

Yes, your guessing is right...Shane won't come between Brian and Justin :)  Althoug in this chapter, he's not quite yet in Brian's good book.

Gus is very much like his father in that when he makes his mind up about something, he doesn't steer away from it; he's a determined and free-thinking young man.

Lindsay has had, and still has, an odd perspective of her relationship with Brian.  Sadly, she seems to think that she must retain some connection to him.

Beautiful. Can't find other words to describe this wonderful story.

Author's Response:

Wow, thank you!  Knowing you are reading and liking this story means so much!

I agree, the prom dance between Brian and Justin was the definitive, most beautiful moment!  It seemed such a harsb, cruel reality that not only did Justin suffer from irreputable brain damange that would affect his right hand for the rest of his life, but he had lost complete memory of his beautiful and perfect dance with Brian.  I felt that with this particular story of fan-fiction, it begged for Justin's memory of the dance to return.  He and Brian both deserved it!  :)

Yes, Brian understood tat Gus' healing was not only about the pysical, but the emotional and psychological as well.  The atmosphere in Brian and Justin's home is calm, and both dads are loving, patient, and committed to their son.  In their care is the absolute best place Gus can be!

Yeah can't escape from Kleenex. You blown me away with all the emotion written in this chapter

Author's Response:

Indeed, this was a very emotionally-packed chapter.  I wasn't immune to the tears either, and editing it before posting it, was harder than I had imagined it would be.  But at the same time, it was good to see the strong and loving support of the family, in particular, the connection between Brian, Justin, Gus, and J.R.  Not excluding the affirmative support of J.R.'s dads and the kids' grandparents, the dynamic of the Kinney men and J.R., is unique and special.

There will be a few more emotional occurances in this story, but there is always a light at the end of the tunnel for all of them.  Sometimes, however, not always in the way we might expect :)

Agreed with Brian that it's times to change. Knowing his child on medication bcos the mess at home & safe guard Brian from it. No child should be put in this situation.

Jenny and Gus ever truly showing their bond ship as Gus always be there for Jenny when she needed him.

Oh goodness till stage all Lindsay think about her needs instead of Gus. Thank goodness that Gus had dads to rely on.

Gus is great, knowing that he could stay with his dad's if they get the custody. But for Jenny sake, he opted to wait for a while.

Hilarious the interaction between Gus & Jenny on wanting to know more on the gay sexual subject.

Amazing. Love long chapter.

Author's Response:

These chapters are indeed long, and I sometimes have a difficult time deciding where exactly to cut them off :)

Gus and his sister do have an amazing and protective bond with one another.  Gus is like his father in so many ways, and one of those attributes being that he takes care of, and looks out for, those he loves.  In my opinion, such a trait is very admirable!  I'm delighted you liked the humor and good-natured interaction between Jenny and Gus.  I think, that because they are teenagers, it only made the situation more amusing :)

Mel and Linds have a great deal of drama going on in their life, but as the story progresses, that aspect will finally come to fruition, and they will discover how their negative behavior has left an impact on both of their children's lives.

More to come soon!  Thank you for your continued support through your encouraging and insightful comments!!  So deeply appreciated!

Some more for young teenage boy to cope the overall situation himself. How can a mom does that to her child and ignore that is her fault. I just can't believe it.

Understandable Mel action bcos of Linds affair but as Brian said the adults had to be responsible for their own action not to put burden on the children.

Good job.

Author's Response:

Thank you so very much!  I'm so thrilled to know you enjoyed this chapter!  It was an intense one, especially the communication between all four parents.  Brian doesn't mince words and he's always blut and no-nonscense, which, particularly in this situation, was appropriate.  His honesty is what Mel and Lindsay needed to hear.

What a wonderfully long chapter.  First off why is Melanie so Gestapo with poor JR?  I do feel that once a judge sees Gus' video the ruling should go in JR's favor.  How did JR end up with blue eyes?  Her mom is Mel and dad is Mikey.  Justin should not have forgotten to tell Brian about hiring Shane.  Shane and Gus, a good match.  Next chapter asap!!!

Author's Response:

Thank you so much!!  I'm so delighted you liked this chapter!! :)

You're right, Mel and Mikey both have brown eyes.  I wrote JR to have blue eys because her grandmother, Debbie, has blue eyes, as did her great uncle, Vic.

Mel is raging because she was so angry about her percieved interference in Gus' life by Brian, and that Gus left home to go live with his dads after he graduated.  So Mel figured (not logically) that one day, JR would want to go live with her dads, and since JR's brother is Brian's son, and JR's dad is Brian's best friend, Mel couldn't stand the thought of her daughter being interwoven any furter into Brian's life.  In the show, Mel hated Brian, for one, and two, she was angry when Lindsay and Micahel both filed for visitation rights with JR, and won, so I decided to carry that dynamic over into this story.

We'll discover in the next chapter the results of Michael and Ben filing for custody of their daughter.

Yes, I also believe that Shane and Gus are a very good match :)  They are good for each other.

The next chapter will post soon.  I'm so grateful for your comments, and I'm happy to hear you are continuing to enjoy this story!!

Poor Gus & JR on their own when sick but lucky grandma is there for them unlike their mums not putting their children as priority.

Just wonder how long more Brian had to clean up the Mel & Lindsay mess.

Author's Response:

I can totally imagine Deb being utterly devoted to her grandkids :)  And, she doesn't pull any punches, either, which is a good thing in this situation!

Brian and Justin are truly a devoted couple.  They are precisely where, and with whom, they want to be, and both will do anyting for each other.

Regarding Mel and Lindsay, well, let's just say that as you continue through the story, Brian and Justin will be cleaning up a few more messes for the two women ;)

Dun understand what the munchers is thinking. Parenting is not about competition. Is love and understanding parent towards their children. The dads did a much better job in parenting skills than the moms.

Love the bonding and support Gus and JR had for each other. The brotherly love Gus show JR is priceless.

Brian stay true to his principle that "I'm not my Father" and vow never to be like his father. His love for his son is just beyond words.

Love it.

Author's Response:

Thank you immensely for your insightful  feedback!  And I'm so happy you are enjoying the story!

There are a lot of interesting dynamics going on between all the characters.  Clearly, Lindsay and Mel haven't quite figured out the whole 'parenting is not a competition' thing :)  Indeed, Brian and Justin are not self-absorbed in their parenting skills, and look out as best they can for their son, and even JR.  Gus and JR have a very special bond, and Gus seems to be one who will always be the protective big broter.

Brian has determined to be NOTHING like is own father, especially when it comes to Gus.  And Justin, too, I think, can share in a bit of that because he is nothing like his own dad, Craig Taylor.  I'm delighted you like the aspect of how loving and devoted Brian and Justin are with Gus!

Mel's losing it. Guess she doesn't see that her behavior is one of the reasons the kids want to leave her and Lindsay and live with their fathers. Her hatred of Brian has given her blinders. If she doesn't want Jenny to have contact with the Liberty Ave. gang, she should have gone to the sperm bank instead of asking Michael.
Gus and Shane make a nice couple. Brian will just have to get use to Shane being around. He'll be good for Gus.

Author's Response:

I truly enjoyed your comments!  Thank you so much for taking the time!!

Yes, I think Gus and Shane will be very good for each other!

Mel definately has some issues, and she's always despised the fact that Brian is Gus' father.  You're right that her hatred of him is what's giving her blinders.  I'm sure she also doesn't like the fact that Brian has maintained good relationships with everyone else.  And, since Micahel and he will always be friends, that is yet another connection to Brian that she will never be rid of.

The next chapter will reveal what happens with custody of Jenny Rebecca.

well - ok - I don't know if I have told you lately how very much I am loving this story - such a sweet glimpse into every day life for this family - something I really relish

I love how protective and supportive they all are of each other - except for the munchers who I desperately want to throttle - but I'll leave all that up to Brian - no one deals with them better than him

and the treat on top of all that - this Gus romance storyline - there are far far far too few Gus stories out there - and that is a real shame - thank you so very much for this one - I only hope that we get to follow that one much much farther

BTW - I also appreciate the long chapters you thrill us with - you give us so much more to enjoy than most - and I for one love it!

can't wait for more - can't wait for the girls to find out the consequences of their crap - and for Gus and Shane to ... give us more!

thank you

Charle

Author's Response:

Thank you so much, Charle!  I'm so delighted you enjoy the dynamics of the day-to-day interactions of this family.  They are indeed sweet, and very committed and supportive.  Thank you for your insight on their lives!

I agree...throttling the munchers would work well in this story!  :)

I'll defintely delve deeper into Gus and Shane's relationship and their issues as the story progresses.  I've really enjoyed writing about Gus and JR as older teenagers entering into adulthood.

It's wonderful to hear that you're liking the long chapters.  I debated on that matter when I began posting them, but I wanted to give as much information in each chapter as possible, and not leave a lot of cliffhangers, so I just went with it :)

More to come soon!  Thank you for reading and for your informative feedback!  I apprecite both so immensely!!
