Midnight Whispers
QAF Brian and Justin Fanfiction

I've really enjoyed how you've written this story. I don't think I've read another that had the time and distance between Brian and Justin so great, or the fact that they kept their non-relationship so quiet for so many years.

Oh…and I love the angst, but please don't break Brian's (and my) heart.

I started reading last night and finished a little while ago. I just downloaded part 2, so I'll be starting that in a little while.

Okay I just read the summary of the sequel and I have to be honest I don't know if I can read it. Ten years is already way to long to drag out their non-relationship. I'm just not up for 45 more chapters of angst and heartbreak...

Author's Response:

Hey Kathleen,

I will not lie Volume II is a lot of drama but I promise that it is well worth it. Honestly, you should probably read it from the other site because it is updated and I am in the process of writing the last chapter(s). The first 7 chapters of Volume II gives an overall view of what happened between Brian and Justin (their thoughts, feelings, triumphs and trials) to arrive at the point where Volume I ended. Those questions that you asked me in the other review, is actually answered within that first 7. In addition to that, there were some situations that went on in Volume I that are resolved in Volume II. Keep in mind that I actually began writing the first 7 chapters of Vol. II first and then wrote and completed this before going back to it. It is angsty but with some very satisfying resolutions (at least I'd like to think so). Give it a try, and as always if you have any questions or just need to rant and rail at me anytime during the fic, for you...I'll let you ;-) But definitely read it on the other site since you won't have to stop in the middle like you will have to on here... Also, it takes some more in-depth looks into Michael's motivation as well as Lindsay's issues with Mel. Add to that both the original villians from this work and some other major players/ situations, and you're in for one helluva ride. Volume I was mainly about Brian and Justin's journey to where they are in Volume II. Now they will have to deal with the fall out of actually being together.

Happy Reading and HUGS,

~Nichelle

You're killing me here! I want to be happy, but unlike Mr. Kinney I'm not so sure about their future.

It seems they're roles have reversed, and I just don't trust Mr. Taylor to not push Brian off his own cliff...

Surprise me, give me what I want. Don't make me hate this new Justin any more than I already do...

Okay questions and a rant...

"I will never allow anyone to hurt him again and that includes me." Really?

Because if he decided that he was ending things with Brian, then wouldn't he be hurting Brian? Or did I misunderstand the earlier part of this very long chapter?

Okay now for my rant, and please excuse my frustrated and somewhat angry response...

I don't understand Justin at all! Yes, he wants to become success, and equal but sacrifice dose not equal success. He could achieve all these things living with Brian, sure they'd still be apart having to travel for business. But they'd be together...

Justin creates all his own drama, he may think he's being noble, or something. But I think he's a fool! Stop hiding, and running away and get a fucking backbone. Stand up to Michael, Lindz, Mel and anyone else. He feeds the drama, giving them all the power.

They've been apart what 7 plus years? That's way to long! It makes me think that he doesn't really want a real relationship with Brian. After all Brian's been ready to commit to him for the last five years. It's Justin that keeps the distance between them. If he really wanted it to work, it would already be working.

Now Brian's been celibate for what 2 years? Or did I misunderstand? Has Brian told him about this? Yet, Justin's still having meaninglessly and unsatisfying sex. Seriously, what's wrong with him? Has Justin told Brian about Sean's attempt to rape him? By keeping silent about these things it only creating more distance.

I'm loving this fic, but I'm extremely frustrated by it. I'm not sure if I was Brian, I'd want to be with someone that just keeps running from them. Brian should be the one letting Justin go until he figures out his life, because for once it's Justin that's fucking thing up, not Brian...

Okay enough said, now hopefully thing will change for the better in the next chapters, and sequel.

Again sorry for the harsh comments, I just need to vent!

Hugs ~ Kathleen

wow - what a ride that was - I have read this whole story from start to finish this week - and the emotional ups and downs have my stomach doing flips

this last chapter - amazing!

now I can't wait to start part II - hope my heart can take it

Charle

Author's Response:

YAY!!! Thanks so MUCH for reading Volume I, Charle! I enjoyed writing this so much. Volume II takes it even further and they will definitely need the strength that is the core essence of B&J to get through it with sanity in tact. Leave it to me to provide angst and crazy!! I'm definitely a twisted gal LOL! The first seven chapters of Volume II is kind of a segue of what happened in the last few chapters here. I really cannot wait to read your thoughts on the next installment. GEEZ! I'm so EXCITED!

Happy Reading and Writing (Yep I'm anxiously waiting for the next chapter of your TBLP), Darling!

Wow. That was quite a journey. You did a great job showing the way both Brian and Justin matured. I don't really agree with all Justin's decisions - it seems so futile to keep striving for money just so you can feel confident- but I guess that's just because I already tried that and then gave up that pursuit myself.  I think the most telling line you wrote - what these two characters still needed to learn was this: "I haven't asked for what it is I've wanted . . ." Time to ask that really important question now, Brian. And Justin too. Well done. TAG

Author's Response:

Thanks so much, Tag!! I really wanted to show their journies both individually and collectively. They were given some hard truths to face and so were the people who were around them. With Justin, it was a matter of pride. He wanted Brian, of course, but was quite sick of things being the way they were when he left the Pitts (mainly the constant badgering and innuendo about their relationship). Now that they've come to an understanding, let's see what they do with it. They were always strong men in their own right but  always stronger together. Next Challenge up: Volume II!!

Very nice incorporation of two great songs - Straight to Number One and When Doves cry. Loved the imagery and the hot sex scene! Yay! TAG

Author's Response:

Thank you so very much for the compliment! Writing this series is definitely a dream come true for me. The characters are rich with promise and each have a story aching to be told, especially Brian and Justin. I hope you enjoy Time's Up Volume II: Share My Life equally if not more than Volume I. With characters like these, there definitely aren't any limits! Happy Reading and Many Hugs!! ~Nichelle

Fanastic chapter. I really enjoyed it. Suggestion if i could resubmit your books links on the Queer as Folk link again, and how you are organizing them. I was lost af first thinking you quiit writing when I didn;t see any more chapters of Times up....maybe some readers need to know on the site how you are breaking them down again so we can all enjoy your great writing and not miss them. You are such a great writer of Brian and Justin. Thanks

Author's Response:

Thank you so much for your suggestion and the compliment, Cathy!! They both mean the world to me! It hadn't dawned on me that I had missed a contact. I apologize!! Also this work was formerly a prequel but at 96K+ words, it needed to be a Volume...lol I never thought in a million years that this would grow the way it is. i'm grateful for it. As a writer, you worry when your mind is silent and your vision unclear; when the story/ characters STOP. I've been blessed that it hasn't happened and that Brian, Justin and the QAF crew give me amazing content to analyze and produce!  HAPPY Reading! ~Nichelle

I have to ask have we met somewhere before, because you seem to know a lot about me without knowing me at all lol. I say this because at every turn of this story you have taken a song from my personal collection and sewn it seamlessly within Justin and Brian's lives. They tell so much of their story, and coupled with the actual written accounting makes it that much better.

Spectacular job...thanks for sharing this installment.

Author's Response:

LOL!!! The songs just....they call for me and it's like I can actually see scenes where they're being played to fit the storyline. It's an amazing gift to me that you can that you appreciate it and that the lyrics are enhancing the storyline and not detracting from it! Between Kem and En Vogue, they gripped me good when writing this chapter; just wouldn't let me sleep or go on to writing something else. They HAD to be used and definitely provided the soundtrack to Brian's thoughts in those moments! I think of B & J as good music lovers regardless of the genre; eclectic and artistic people who can appreciate the words and overall vibe.

BTW-- I would love to meet you in R.L.! I already have a blast with you on here so I know we'd have a great time hanging out!

All I can say is...on to the next chapter ;)

Author's Response:

LOL!!! I just screamed because I am so excited! My brother thought I fell off the office chair again (I'm sticking to the idea that it threw me out of it-- no way I could have fallen...lol).

Reviewer: JAZZEPOET (Signed) · Date: May 19, 2015 07:46 PM · On: Chapter 8- One Last Night

Whew...it literally took me all morning right up to the point of writing this review to get through this. I don’t regret the time spent because reading every word made it worth it even if it was hard to read at times.

I still think Justin should have reconsidered killing off his and Ben’s characters because it actually did more harm than good and totally did not serve it's intended purpose. In the end though, I'm glad they were able to find just the tiniest bit of peace for themselves.

Good job, I can't wait for the next update to Time's Up.

Author's Response:

Chapter 8 is probably one of the most emotionally charged chapters in this ten-year journey. Chapters 9 and 10 take an "introspective approach" to the first 7 chapters of Time's Up. Mikey's plot backfired BIG time. He thought that Justin would have no choice but to agree to it since he (meaning Michael) had already given his word. The last thing Michael thought wa that Justin would actually mean NO. Now with Michael's misstep and talking out of turn to Justin, unless there's an act of God somewhere in Queerville, there's no way he is going to draw for Rage again but Justin also kept the relationship with Connor and Brett open; never knowing where the road may lead for future projects. Mainly, Justin didn't divulge the full story out of respect for Brian and his love for Michael because honestly, he could have ruined Michael's credability right then. A lot of things happened in the chapter, for certain, but I'm so overjoyed that you enjoyed chapter 8. It definitely took on a journey while writing it; it's gratifying to know that you didn't mind taking it with me!!

wow what an amazing chapter Brian certainly opened up and told Justin what he wants

Author's Response:

It's about time Brian told the truth.  Now I need to go back to the beginning and read this all over again.  PS. I like the idea of the rename.

Author's Response:

Thanks so much for reading this Yum!! I figured the last chapters should show their inner thoughts and conflicts on what the happened in the first seven chapters of Volume II (It's officially changed and the banners UPDATED!!). Chapter 10 in particular showed how Brian had processed what was happening since Toronto. I'm so grateful that you enjoyed this. It was a little weird backtracking after being quite a few chapters into Time's Up Volume II but it was well worth it all because you all have enjoyed it!! I will be updating on the other very soon and I've already done the banner for Volume III. Happy Reading!! ~Nichelle

Reviewer: YumYumPM (Signed) · Date: May 18, 2015 05:25 AM · On: Chapter 7- Keep On Movin'

Wow, what a chapter.  Having Ted getting Brian to read the last issue was a stroke of genius.  The fact that Mikey demanded the death of TJ is enough to make one wish that Michael finally gets what he deserves.  Brian and Justin need each other and it's great that we will get that.

Author's Response:

I like the dynamic between Brian and Ted! Working together as friends has given them a new level of understanding and both accepts each other's genius in their own right. Brian also knows that Ted won't say something like that without absolute reason. Brian's friendship with Ted and Em keeps him grounded and growing as a person. He still has the God and Peter Pan complex but it's tempered with a healthy dose of his own "Kinneyisms" being thrown back at him when he needs them most. He knows they have his back no matter what, will tell him the truth and keep his confidence at all costs.

Reviewer: JAZZEPOET (Signed) · Date: May 17, 2015 12:45 AM · On: Chapter 7- Keep On Movin'

What a shit Michael was for making Justin kill off his character and Justin for making it seem like it's no big deal for Michael to finally get his wish, at least in a fantasy world. So that's what Ted was trying to warn him about...no wonder Brian freaked out the way he did.

Author's Response:

Justin's reasoning will be explained a bit further in chapter 8 which is actually in progress right now. Writing that chapter was an emotional rollercoaster!! Michael.... #ThatIsAll LOL Just know that at base, Justin's motives for feigning nonchalance were pure and that the things he revealed when he became angry was not from a place of spite and resentment towards Brian. It's mainly from a place of intense pain especially given the date and some deep-seeded resentment that Michael would call his phone looking for Brian on that date and not even ask Justin how he was doing. Then to have Brian basically berating him while he was trying to suppress every fear, piece of bitter anger and mourning the person he was before the bashing all the while trying to hide behind his everyday routine and project normalcy....that kinda did it. The irony was that Justin never wanted Brian to find out just how screwed up he still was from it; didn't want to add to Brian's innate need to protect him or cause him to worry about him more than Justin already knew he did which in part was why Justin apologized in the end. These two are so complex and yet so simple and easy to understand. As much as Brian feels it's his duty to protect Justin even from himself, the feeling is the same on Justin's end. It's another facet of their dynamic that one just has to love! Happy Reading! ~Nichelle

Author's Response:

Thanks so much, Cathy! This one had me on edge from beginning to end just as the one currently being written does. Hopefully, I'll be putting it up later tonight along with the final two chapters from the individual POVs of Brian and Justin. They are definitely keeping me tense over here! First of all...WOW!!!! Fucking amazing my friend. I really don't have coherent words to say how much I loved what's happening in this chapter. And your choice of song is top notch...some of it taking me back to my youth lol. I am really enjoying this and looking forward to the next chapter;)

Reviewer: YumYumPM (Signed) · Date: May 08, 2015 06:17 AM · On: Chapter 5- Love's Train

Michael and Sap, the two people who are capible of causing pain.  Knowing that Brian and Justin come though this doesn't make it any less painful.  Love the look at what brought them back together.

Author's Response:

Thanks for the compliment, YumYum! I told you that it would be an emotional ride. They both are fighting through a lot to be together especially the separation. That more than anything is wears on a person's psyche. Between the Sapersteins and Michael's foolery it's a wonder Brian and Justin haven't gone competely bat-shit crazy yet (especially Justin).

I'm going to post Chapter 6 very soon (hopefully later this morning) and then the last few chapters you will understand why the beginning of "Time's Up" had to happen the way it did. The good news is that it will be written in first person with minimal dialogue so you all can see exactly what their individual reasonings were stemming from. Although they will include some of the key issues from the first six chapters of Time, the way it is being written makes it worth the time and effort to re-read.

Happy Reading and keep the feedback coming! ~Nichelle

This was truly amazing my friend. First of all, genius move using Switch for this chapter. I grew up on their music and the song choice was perfect! The title alone clearly expresses how Brian and Justin feel about each other and that it's not subject to change anytime soon.

Great job! I can't wait for the next installment.

Author's Response:

Honey, that song gripped me (just as the others have) and it wouldn't let me go! What's funny is that this was never intended to be a "Song-Fic" but for some reason, every one I listen to while working has some meaning which relates to the ten-year span. Consequently, I have no choice but to write to it. I hope putting the lyrics at different points in the chapter is enhancing the story and showing how it all applies. Music is definitely universal, even in QAF land!

Can't help but wonder if Mikey will ever leave Brian some peace.  Frankly if I were Ben I would sent Mikey packing rather than listen to him whining about not being able to talk to Brian.

Very emotional indeed. Btw...I'm glad I'm not the only one who thinks that a big part of the reason b/j's relationship was so rocky was because of all the outside Interference. Too many other people constantly had a vote on what went on between them. Please update soon :)

This work is  Chapters total. It has been an amazing ride giving the backstory. I just posted Chapter 5 and will hopefully finish up Chapter 6 this morning. It's 5 am here so I should probably get a small nap and then get back to it.
