Craig may have been a great father while Justin was young, but he sure showed his true colors once Justin came out.   Truly horrible.   And Justin getting his happily ever after with Brian just shows that he ended up all the more better.

Author's Response:

Hi, Sarah! Thanks for the comments and for reading.  Yeah, I figured Justin had some positive moments with his dad before he came out, which made the situation all that more bittersweet and sad for Justin. But I wanted to show how Justin had the love and support he needed now. Thank you again for reading this one and for your feedback. It is greatly appreciated. ~Kim

Memories good and bad.  Craig must be rolling over in his grave about what's written on his tomb stone.  How appropriate.

Author's Response:

Ha!  I think so, too.;)  I love those online 'tombstone generators' - LOL! I thought that was an appropriate way to point out his failings. After all, he can't object now unless he comes back to haunt them like in my current story.;)  Thanks so much for reading and for the comments.  *Hugs*  ~Kim

I read this three times. It seemed that Craig had been dead to Justin long before he died. It was just so unbelieveable that Craig could turn his back on a child he seemed to have loved. That had to have made it all the more painful for Justin.

I'm curious about the headstone. Woud Craig have had that ectched on it?

Author's Response:

Hi, Sandra - thank you for reading and for the feedback, my friend.  It WAS sad; I think Justin really valued his family, so to have his father turn his back on him like he did would have been extremely anguishing for him. As far as the headstone, no, I don't think Craig would have had that etched on his tombstone in a million years.  What I thought was that Justin and his MOTHER would have had it inscribed that way afterward as a sort of 'poetic justice' for what his father had done to him.  After all, what better way to show what sort of man he had been than by inscribing something he would have loathed on his own headstone?  Perhaps sort of cruel and unfair in a way, but I think it would have certainly been the height of irony after Craig couldn't do anything about it.

Thanks for all the support you give my stories, Sandra; that means a lot to me.  *Hugs*  ~Kim

Heartrending!!! Perfectly done as always Kim! :) :) :) {{{Hugs}}}

Author's Response:

Thank you, Blanca, I'm so glad that you liked it.:)  I thought it was a fitting end for the bigot that we love to hate.:)  Thank you for reading and for the taking the time to leave me your thoughts.  I greatly appreciate that.  *Hugs*  ~Kim

Sometimes our memories can be both good and bad. But we still love our fathers. Great fic.

Author's Response:

Hi, Jane! Thanks for reading and for the comments, my friend.  That's very true, I think; even Brian had mixed emotions about Jack, despite how he treated him.  You can hate the qualities a parent possesses and detest what they stand for, but they're still your parents, and I think it's very difficult to detach yourself altogether from that fact. I think there would have been a lot of 'if onlys' for both men here.  Thank you again for taking the time to read and leave me feedback, Jane; I am greatly appreciative.:)  *Hugs*  ~Kim

Thats really amazing darling, and word perfect...Bigotry! ~ Yvonne xx

Author's Response:

Hi, Vonnie!  Thank you for reading and for the comments, Sweetheart.:)  This one was not the cheeriest of subjects, was it?  But I think it was a great way to wish Craig well in the afterlife - ha!  Thanks again for taking the time to leave me feedback.:)  *Hugs*  ~Kim

Wonderfully touching bit of writing there, sweetie!  Well done!

Author's Response:

Awww... thanks, Daphne!  I appreciate that so much.:)  Hope you will enjoy some of my other (longer!) stories as well; this was definitely my shortest one by far.:)  Thanks again for the feedback; it is greatly appreciated.  *Hugs*  ~Kim

Very touching, hopefully Justin will let the good memories out weigh the bad. I also loved the fact that Brian was right there with him.Great one shot my friend and congrats on the blue ribbon: ) Hugs, Janet

Author's Response:

Thank you, Janet; for reading, for the comments, and for the congrats.  It was a big (but very nice) surprise to see it there.  Bob is very sneaky - ha!  Thanks again, my friend.  *Hugs*  ~Kim

That was very nice. Exactly how was Justin wondering why his father is sudenly such an ass just because he´s gay. I like the connection to death of Brian father via cancer.

Author's Response:

Hi, Sisa! Thank you for reading and for the comments, my friend; I appreciate that so much.  Yes, it would be ironic that Craig wound up dying from cancer while Brian lived - and that the boys were together and happy.  I'm glad that you enjoyed this.  Thank you again for the kind words - and also, thank you for the 'favorite author' designation; I am very honored by that.  *Hugs*  ~Kim

THIS STORY APTLY NAMED.  SUCH A GOOD SHORT ONE.  THE GOOD REMEMBRANCES AND THE SHITTY ONES.  YOU GOT A BLUE RIBBON--CONGRATS!!!  WELL DESERVED.  BY NOW I'M SURE LINDC TOLD YOU OF HER SOJURN INTO "BIGOTRY"  I DON'T BELIEVE HER-WELL I DO-BUT GOD SHE COULD HAVE GOTTEN BEAT UP OR SOMETHING WORSE.  WE GOT HER A SUPERWOMAN TROPHY,  SHE GOT A KICK OUT OF IT, BUT SAID SHE DIDN'T DO ANYTHING SPECIAL.  SHE DID AND WE ALL KNOW IT.  A BUNCH OF US AND HER TWO NEW FRIENDS ARE HAVING DINNER TOGETHER THIS WEEKEND.  SHOULD BE FUN.  LUV 2 U

Author's Response:

Hi, Sweetheart!  How are you and the Vixen?  I understand that she is a real date magnet - ha!  So good to hear from you!  Yes, lindc filled me in; such a brave (but also foolish) thing for her to do.  But as I told her, I really think people are placed in certain situations at certain times for just this reason - to be there when they are needed.

As far as the story goes, I always thought putting something like that on Craig's marker would be the ultimate poetic justice against his bigotry and hatred.

I'm glad to hear that things are going so well for all of you out there!  I should be out there myself in June (in Long Beach); would love to somehow meet some of you if you're not too far away.  Take care and please stay in touch.  *Hugs* back to you.  ~Kim

You did it again my dear... another work of brilliance! For a story so short and simple, it was so sweet and tender and heart-breakingly beautiful. Cried my eyes out a bit when I finished this, not so much for his losing his father, but the loss of what could have been, what should have been; knowing that one of the people who were supposed to love and support you no matter what couldn't get past their own screwed up views to be the parent they should have been. Knowing his father would never get to witness his happiness and marriage and whatever family they make... and possibly, albeit briefly, vengefully hoping that he's looking down now and has realized something, anything, that he exists somewhere, being treated, if only for a moment, exactly how he treated you, and knowing exactly how you felt at his hands, at his words.

That was a bit dark, wasn't it? I didn't have to do through what Justin went through, but I completely understand having a father that doesn't like or love you. Let's just say my own father was like a cross between Craig and Jack... lovely, huh? He was never physically abusive, and I'm glad I wasn't born a man, because I would have been gay and possibly would have been disowned (at least by him). And there are moments that I hope he exists somehow, somewhere, realizing how wrong he was and how wasted his life was, the only positive contribution he made was me, and I'm pretty sure I have more genetics from my mom than him.

Anyway, enough melancholy and sadness. Amazing story, my dear!

Cheers, Laura :) xoxo

Author's Response:

Hi, my dear friend; as always, I'm so grateful for all your thoughtful comments.  I thought, what a great way to show others what Craig would never reveal by broadcasting it all over his gravestone.  And yes, I, too, think about what happens after we're gone.  Do we somehow have the capability of seeing what's going on before us down on Earth?  (Or should I say UP in his case!).  If so, he probably was rolling over in his grave as Justin and his husband kissed in front of him.  (I thought that was a nice touch.).  I'm sorry to hear that you had a similar situation with your own father; what a shame that we can't somehow license parents based on their qualifications (or lack thereof).

Thank you so much for reading, Laura; and thank you for all the consistent support and encouragement you give me.:)  It is greatly appreciated.  *Hugs*  ~Kim

THIS STORY HAS CLOSURE FOR JUSTIN.  IT IS VERY SAD AND HEALING AT THE SAME TIME.  HOW DO YOU DO THAT.  I AM VERY IMPRESSED WITH THE ABILITY YOU HAVE TO WRITE SUCH POIGNANT WORDS.  DON'T KNOW IF YOU REMEMBER ME OR NOT, BUT I AM NOAH.

Author's Response:

Hi, Noah!  Yes, I DO remember you!  So great to hear from you again.:)  Thank you for reading and for your thoughtful comments.  That was the tone I was trying to set - one of disappointment and regret, but also a hopeful one because Justin had his soulmate beside him for love and support.  Thank you again for the kind words, Noah!  I hope I can contnue to write stories that you will enjoy.  *Hugs*  ~Kim

OMG that was so powerful Kim I always have a little think before I read a maybe death fic in case it is but this was truly wonderful thanks so much hugs Chris

Author's Response:

Thank you, Chris, for your kind words.  This one wasn't the cheeriest of pieces, was it?  LOL!  But I think it would be a fitting 'tribute' to Craig, and I do think it ended on a hopeful note.  Thank you for reading and for the comments.  You've been with me for a long time now on this journey, and I appreciate it more than you know.  *Hugs*  ~Kim

I can't believe someone was willing to spend that much for a huge head stone. I think he should have been tossed over a cliff or into a shallow grave in the woods. I can't believe you manages to write such a moving story in so few words, but so much more between the lines. Another gleaming jewel for your crown.
Lori

Author's Response:

Oh, Lori, only you could take a story like this and make me laugh!  Don't you think Craig is worth it?  Ha!  I think Brian would have been more than willing to pay whatever it took just to have that last laugh at Craig's expense.  Thank you for reading and for the comments - I always look forward to them.   *Hugs*  ~Kim

Nice little way to remember the up and down relationship between Justin and his father.  A friend of mine, cooincidentally named Justin, was rejected by his parents when he came out.  He had to live with friends and whomever could take him in.  Now, I'm happy to report, his with his partner of five years and they have a home.  (God Bless then both.)  Justin's parents have finally come around and actually visited the home.  Now if we can just get marriage equality in Illinois........

Author's Response:

Hi, my friend - glad to hear about 'your' Justin.  But as someone told me just yesterday from personal experience, hatred and bigotry still exist in droves.  I think there has been progress, but there's a long way to go.  Thank you for reading and for the comments; I greatly appreciate that.  *Hugs*  ~Kim

Hey!  I just want to say what a wonderful touching little story.  I swear you can write anything, any emotion in such a compelling wonderful way.  I appreciate you and your wonderful stories I never tire of them. I'm good and back to work doing well.

Author's Response:

Hi, Nonie!  I'm so happy to hear from you and to know that you're doing well; that's great news!  Thank you for reading and for the kind words; I appreciate that a lot.  I actually have a toppy! Justin chapter to the recent puzzle story that I might post shortly.  Someone sent me a request to have an additional chapter added to it, and that was the result.  Thank you again for being so thoughtful in leaving me feedback.  You're very kind, and you are all a special group of people.  *Hugs*  ~Kim

Deep and sad... and unfortunately so IC. It's tragic that Craig would allow his bigotry to destroy one of life's greatest gifts of all - his love for his child. Very moving piece. Well done as always... *Hugss*

Author's Response:

Thank you for reading and for the comments, my friend.  Yes, not the cheeriest piece, is it?  By far my shortest, too.  But I do see some hopefulness at the end, though. Thank you for taking the time to leave me feedback; you know how much I appreciate that.  Enjoy the rest of your time off!  *Hugs*  ~Kim

WOW! THAT WAS INTENSE!! you amaze me each and every time. i got a little choked up with his memories. this was beautiful and so deep. great one-shot.

Author's Response:

I see you found it.:) Thanks, my dear friend, for not only reading and reviewing, but for everything you do for me.  Now go get that ice water for the toppy! Justin story.  I need to know whether to post it or not.:)  *Hugs*  ~Kim

Rather somber...what brought this mood on?

Author's Response:

Hmm...good question. I've been feeling kind of down this weekend, so that probably had something to do with it.  Let's just say that some people I thought I could depend on let me down, and it's very distressing.  I suppose this was the result; that and just wanting to give Craig a proper farewell after the way he treated Justin.  I still hope you liked it (not sure if 'liked' is the right word here, though).  I could probably use a few virtual hugs right now, however, if you can spare one.:)  Thanks for reading and for taking the time to comment.  *Hugs* back  ~Kim

Hopefully Justin can find some closure... ~ Kathleen

Author's Response:

Hi, Sweetheart!  Always so good to hear from you.:)  I like to think it ended on a hopeful note.  I think Justin realized who his real family was - Brian. So yes, it was definitely bittersweet, but I think hopeful at the same time and Justin decided he could move on.  Thank you for reading and for taking the time to comment; it is greatly appreciated, Kathleen.:)  *Hugs*  ~Kim

Sad for Jus-wonderfully written the good with the bad.  Too bad there are so many homophobes in the world still and not just in this story.  I will relate what happened recently to you after I have calmed down. It's really quite bad.lol

Author's Response:

Hi, lindc - I'm sorry to hear that something bad happened! It seems like all of you just can't get a break!  As always, thanks for reading. BTW - I'm beginning to think that I will have to break up "Stallion," and post the rest of it later (after I post Part 2).  It's just growing into a monster of a chapter, and I don't want to neglect the other two stories.  I'll be thinking about you all.  One more thing - anytime you want to email me in private instead, I'm there to listen.  Just go to my bio page and click on "contact author."  Take care and hope to talk to you soon.  *Hugs*  ~Kim

well done - I am glad to see that while the past still has its measure of pain - Craig seems to have lost the ability to hurt Justin anew before death closed the door on any type of reunion

Charle

Author's Response:

Thanks, Charle, for the kind words.  By far the shortest story I've ever written - ha!  But I couldn't resist giving it to Craig when he had no way to refute it.:)  Thanks again, my friend, for reading, and for your earlier words as well; it means a lot to me.:)  *Hugs*  ~Kim

Kim, you're going to make me have to by stock in kleenex. I love how you mixed the bitter with the sweet with the end resulting in Justin having exactly what Craig never wanted him to have.....a real chance at happiness.

Thank you for a wonderful way to help me get over the flu (my Sgt isn't too crazy about me being on quarters)

Author's Response:

Hi, Tamara!  Thanks for reading and for the comments; between the flu and the story, I think perhaps a LOT of Kleenex is in order. But wouldn't that be poetic justice for Justin and Brian?  After all, what's he going to do NOW?  I thought about putting "come on down" ala the Price is Right, but decided against that - ha!  Thanks again - hope you get to feeling better really soon; there's certainly a lot of that going around right now!  *Hugs* (and Kleenex)  ~Kim
