I dont know how I managed to miss this story but apparently I did. Just finished reading it. Absolutely loved it. Such a change to see Brian in a vulnerable state, even though you tried to hide him behind his usual brash, snarky self. You put just enough angst to keep me reading late into the night. Few moments of tears as well. Have always enjoyed your writing and hope to see more of it. Thanks for sharing your gift with us.

Author's Response:

Hi, Susan! Thank you for reading this story and for your kind words. I always love to get feedback, no matter how old the story, and this one was one of my favorites to write. I'm so glad you liked it. I still love these boys and love writing about them. I have several new story ideas that I have started on, so hopefully one day I will get one completed.  Thanks again for reading this one and especially for taking the time to leave your encouraging comments; I really appreciate that. :)  ~Kim

Jared is such a little piece of shit. So glad his "plan" didn't work. I hope Craig woop his ass, but I doubt it. Geez poor Justin <3

Loved this chapter so much. And Justin father is so... Ugh. He is too much. He is a teen damn it,  but they are suffocating him. He is carrying the whole family on his back.

And Brian being silly xD He is so smitten with Justin hehe. Can't wait for Em to come.

And Jared is such an asshole. I know what is like to have such a brother *sigh*

Wonderful chapter as always, Kim. Amazing work considering you had such a stressful time of it with your father's death and all your teaching commitments... That must have been really hard for you. Xx

What a fantastic scene you have described here in the barn... You imbue the calving with such tension, I was reading with bated breath. And moving the story on in terms of the growing respect between uncle and nephew. Amazing writing. I'm enjoying this story so much.

Reviewer: Leather Cuff (Signed) · Date: March 19, 2019 10:10 AM · On: Painful Memories

It's a super story... so glad you didn't let your doubting Thomas voice win!

The only anomaly though is why Brian would be kept in the dark about Dale's death... Surely Sarah would've told her sister what had happened to him?

Author's Response:

Hello, Elizabeth! Just wanted to pop in to say I appreciate all your comments on this story. I had a lot of fun writing it; especially the parts that made Brian feel like an alien in another world - ha!  As for experience, I have visited relatives in Kentucky (was born there, too), but have never really lived on a farm.  Would have liked to, though. I hope you enjoy the rest of the story. Thank you again for all the feedback. I really appreciate that. :)  ~Kim

Oh my goodness, you ability to render an erotic encounter is incredible! I'm really impressed. I literally can't put this story down!

Ooh gosh that was good... I'm very much enjoying the unfolding drama of arrogant teenage Brian being taken down a peg or two!

Reviewer: Leather Cuff (Signed) · Date: March 18, 2019 05:49 PM · On: Sparring Match

You must have done a tonne of research into running a farm... Either that or maybe you're speaking from firsthand experience? It's wonderfully alive in the writing and the way you describe Brian's reaction to the richness and diversity of farm life is very funny... I can just imagine how visceral it feels for him to be enveloped by all those farm sights and smells, lol

Reviewer: Leather Cuff (Signed) · Date: March 18, 2019 02:43 PM · On: Shoes....Or Pottery Barn??

Poor Justin, all flustered and jealous ... The sexual tension here was described so well! Damn it, I'm supposed to be doing a job application today but instead I can't tear myself away from this!

That was incredibly hot .. What an encounter! Doubly sexy/hot given the vividly rendered background of baking Kentucky sun and straw bales. I'm enjoying this way more than I should be, Phew..

Mmm a very intriguing set - up. I'm enjoying your writing immensely, Kim... The country scenery is described so vividly and the characters are already imbued with their own life and story rather than just being vehicles for the main action. Looking forward to seeing where this goes.

Maybe Brian can  hire a couple of farmhand to help his uncle an enroll at Vanderbilt  to pursue a degree in Business and Marketing. That would put an end to issue of dealing with a long distance relationship.

Okay, I was out of line by inferring that Craig and Jared might have had a hand in Dale's death. But this Doug person seems to have hated the boy. And now, Jared has found him creeping around in a restricted area while convincing Jared to bet against his brother on a long shot? As my granny use to say: "Something in the milk ain't clean!"

Author's Response:

Hi, Kim!  I'm so glad that we got the email notification problems fixed!  It's good to know now when someone is reviewing, so I don't unintentionally overlook any. I'm delighted that you are still reading this one. It's going to have a lot of ups and downs, with (hopefully) some surprises along the way.  And yes, in this story, you can safely say that Jared is pretty much a jerk for most of it, while Craig is a much more sympathetic figure in this story than on the show.

I do hope you continue to enjoy the rest of it! Thanks for all the feedback!  I do appreciate it very much.  ~Kim

Uh oh! Justin version of Dale's accident does smack of sabotage. I never knew down home horse racing could be so cutthroat. And now, my radar is pinging because until Dale died, Justin wasn't winning any races or prize money to give to Craig...hmmm

Hi, I just wanted to tell you how much I loved this story. You gave us the characters we knew and loved but changed them enough that we could fall in love with them for all new reasons.  I adore the teenage Brian you've created here - the way he still has his walls up and his heart guarded, but is able to open himself up and share who he really is more quickly.  Even though it's a completey different world and situation, it still feels so right.

I also loved your Parent Trap story for the same reasons - the characters I love but new situations that feel so right and so real. I hated to have both of these end; I wanted to stay with these characters and see what else happened with them.

You have a true gift for writing, and I can't wait to read more.  Thank you for sharing these.

Author's Response:

Hi, Sonja!  Thank you for reading this story, and for being so thoughtful in leaving a comment, both here and on AO3. I am so delighted that you enjoyed this different sort of Brian, and that you felt he remained IC, despite the alien environment for him.  And I thank you, especially for your very kind words; I am very honored to have your support, and I hope I can continue to write stories that you will enjoy.  I'm working on the last part of My Heart's Desire, and then I think it's time for a humorous one-shot before moving onto some new, multi-chaptered stories. I'm going to try and not post those, however, until they are either done or almost done, so I don't have such a big gap in between updates.

Thanks again for the support, Sonja! I deeply appreciate that. ~Kim

Hey,

I just finished this sweet love story, no question there, I hope with or with out a sequel Brian and Justin will return to the farms and build their businesses there :)
I also really hope the older generation will be around for years to come, they can't be that old being the parents of teenage boys... even though they keep pretending to be...
Out of curiosity, how old do you picture them in this the TtWS universe??
hugs.
Edda

Author's Response:

Hi, Edda! Thank you for reading this story, and especially for taking the time to comment; I really appreciate that. Not sure about a sequel, but there could definitely be a continuation to this down the road with one, so who knows? Perhaps. As for the parents' and the Walkers' ages, I sort of alluded to that, at least for the Walkers somewhere in the story (more toward the beginning, I think).  In my mind, at least, I saw them somewhere in their early 50's perhaps?  I thought of them having a child a little later in life; that would have certainly made it harder to watch their only son die at such a young age, and how much it would have affected them.

I'm honored that you chose to read this story. Thank you for the support. ~Kim

* Sigh * What a beautiful ending, Kim. Perfect.

I'm sad to let this story go. Truly I am. This is one of my favorite of yours. All the imaginary you have created here is just wonderful, as well as your OC. I love Will's speech so much, especially the part adressed to his son. It was so touching.

Again, wonderful, wonderful story. Brian and Justin are so in love! I will definitely reread it again. Thank you my dear friend for this ride. And of course, I won't lie,  I'd love for you to revisit this universe one day. I know this isn't the easist time for you lately, but take your time to decide where you want to go from there. Just now I'll be here whatever you decide.

XOXO. And thank you again :)

Author's Response:

Hello, dear friend.  I have bittersweet feelings about ending this one, but I AM glad to finally get it concluded, since it seems like it's been going on forever! I hate the fact that it takes me so long to update, but it just can't be helped. But I will always finish whatever I start, so I am moving back to MHD for now to get that one done. Then after that I will have to decide whether to continue writing or not.

I may revisit this in the future possibly; depends upon a lot of things, I suppose. Thank you for all the support - and for your friendship. That has really helped to get me through a very difficult time lately.  *Hugs* ~Kim

Definitely a story to read again in the future.

Author's Response:

Hi, Cristina! Thank you for reading this chapter, and especially for your comments. I'm always happy to have one finally finished, but I did enjoy writing this one, and will miss Will and Sarah, just like I will miss Fin and Tony when I get done with MHD, which I am going to be concentrating on now to get it done.  Not sure if I will be writing more stories beyond finishing up MHD, however, except for a one-shot I'm working on for a mental health site.  But I thank you and all my readers for the support they have given me.  I still do love to write about B and J.  Thank you again for the support; I am very grateful. ~Kim

Reviewer: Rixa (Signed) · Date: April 08, 2016 01:31 AM · On: A New Life Begins

I'm confused about some things. One is, in this chapter it says about Brian "He stood there, listening to the familiar sounds of the farm he had grown to love for the past couple of years". Hasn't Brian only been at the farm for one year? The year between the summer when Justin is seventeen and going into his senior year of high school and the next summer when Justin graduates?
Also it's been so long since I've read the chapters from early in the story that I don't remember anything from the first half, so where does it talk about Brian's high school days? He would have to be a great student to get into Vanderbilt University but I don't remember which are the chapters that told us about what kind of a student he was.
Also even though I thought I read the last three chapters carefully I’m still not sure as to what Vic’s plan was. Was it to encourage Brian to apply to university? To arrange things (like with the stud fees for True Blue) so that Brian would be able to leave the farm? Both? Something else?

Author's Response:

Hi, Rixa - I could have sworn I replied to this the other day, but apparently it did not save it. First of all, let me preface this by saying the past two weeks have been especially difficult ones for me, so if I come off as harsh here, it is not intentional.  To answer the first question, Brian came to live with his aunt and uncle in early summer as Justin was about to enter his senior year, so I suppose it would be more like a year and a half. As for Brian and Vanderbilt, there was discussion before about him being a sports whiz, and how he might have wound up with a scholarship from that, but you will just have to allow me a little fictional license in believing he could get into Vanderbilt whether it was on a sports scholarship or through other means, since I have no idea how stringent their entry requirements are. We do not know the background as to how he got in; perhaps his former marketing instructors from high school wrote recommendation letters for him.  As for the last question, Vic was mainly responsible for getting Emmett to come in and help out the Walkers with their farm, freeing Brian from feeling so responsible for taking care of them, and persuading his racing buddy, Eddie, to help keep True Blue in racing form and arrange for the stud fees to the Walkers for some additional income.

As a story written merely for non-paid pleasure purposes, I hope you will give me some leeway if the reality strays a little from the actual story. I hope you are enjoying it in any case (?), and I thank you for taking the time to comment. I DO have the last part written, and am waiting to get it back from my beta. I'm hoping the conclusion will be posted this weekend.  ~Kim

I have an idea about Vic's plan but I'm not quite sure yet. So I will have to be patient to find out :) I really will miss this story... Thank you so much for writing it!

Author's Response:

Hello, my friend!  I'm happy you enjoyed this chapter. :)  I think I'll miss Will and Sarah as well; just like I will Fin and Tony once I'm done with the other WIP.  I'm going to keep working on this one to get the last/final chapter concluded, so I can concentrate on my other WIP.;) Perhaps one day I can return to visit them again.;)

Thanks for reading this chapter, bearing with me in between updates, and for your friendship, which means the most to me.  *Hugs* ~Kim

The suspense of what they have planned is REALLY killing me here. I wish we could have at least gotten a bit of a hint...but alas I will try to be patient until the next chapter.

Author's Response:

Hi, Tamara! Well, anytime someone is impatient for more, I am flattered, so thank you.;)  At least it was a nice, long chapter.;)  And if it's any consolation, I AM working on the last part now, which will contain a few surprises, but also wrap up the loose ends.  I want to continue working on this one as an exception, rather than going back to MHD like I normally do, so I can get this one concluded and then concentrate on my other WIP (along with a new one.;)

Thanks again for reading, and for your support, Tamara! I really appreciate that. ~Kim

Darn, now we have to wait to find out exactly what the plan is.  Love how Brian used his money.  His reason's weren't quite the best.  He wanted time with Justin, but the results were good.  The work got done and two boys earned some well needed money.  Great chapter.

Author's Response:

Hi, my friend!  Yeah, Brian's got a good heart, but will also need to be a little mindful of taking good care of his finances, now that he is in a much more affluent position.;)

I'm happy you enjoyed this chapter! I'm working on the last part now, which will resolve the remaining issues, and explain Vic's plan.  Thank you for continuing to read and review, and again, a BIG thank you for being our most prolific reviewer.;)  *Hugs* ~Kim

Glad to find a new chapter of the "stallion".

Love it - as always  ;)

Looking forward to the solution you have in mind, think I might have an idea ...

Author's Response:

Thank you for reading, and especially for taking the time to comment; I really appreciate that, especially since I realize sometimes it can be difficult to do that anonymously with those pesky security numbers. :)

I'm delighted that you have been enjoying this story! I am working on the last part now, so it shouldn't be too long before it's posted, and then I will concentrate on wrapping up my other WIP ( I also have a new story in the works).

Thanks again for your support!  ~Kim

Always nice to see an update! Can't wait to find out what sort of plan Uncle Vic has cooked up for the boys!

Author's Response:

Hi, Trish!  Sorry for the delay in responding...sigh...if I only had about 24 more hours in the day - or even an extra hour or two!  I am working on the next/last chapter now, because I really want to get this story concluded and concentrate on not only my other WIP, but on a new story behind the scenes.;)

The idea of Vic's will be resolved - along with the loose ends - coming up. I'll have the last part updated as soon as I can. Thanks for hanging in there with me, and for the support. I truly appreciate that, my friend. *Hugs*  ~Kim

Hi there Kim!

Remember me? I have decided that I might as well take the time to leave a review on your exhilarating and beautiful stories, so I made an account.                         You know what? Saying your stories are exhilarating and beautiful is just me keeping my cool. They are totally mind blowing. Trust me, I am not even close to exaggerating. Every last chapter just makes me extremely excited for the next. And the thing is, I judge a lot when it comes to fanfiction and the way the writer describes emotions and settings and time and all these little things, so whenever I read a story, I can't help but have high expectations. And you never dissapoint. You just keep getting better and better. The way you write everything carefully in detail is just so wonderful, inspiring and creative and makes me doubt that you're 100% human.                                                                                                   I have been reading your stories for quite a while now and even if me saying this might seems totally strange and out of place, I am proud of you. I really am and I hope you are proud of yourself too. I personally didn't think QAF could've been any better, but you proved me wrong (I really shouldn't say that, but it's the truth). You keep on fulfilling every fantasy I've had of Brian and Justin. And me being a married lesbian woman helps me appreciate this even more, because it does really show that "we" are capable of love and marriage and having kids and all those fun things that hetero couples have been doing for eternity.

I think I should leave it there for today. It's Christmas tomorrow, so my little boys will be running around the house making as much noise as possible to wake me and my wife up before dawn. Wish me luck. Merry Christmas, I really do wish you the best. Have fun with your family and friends and stuff your face with as much food as you can (I know I will).

Love, Salloua

Author's Response:

Hello, Salloua!  Welcome to MW as a member, first of all.

Wow, I am so overwhelmed with happiness over your kind words about my writing. I cannot thank you enough for that. I am humbled by it, but so happy that you enjoy what I write.  To know that someone enjoys what I write is very satisfying to me.  I love to write about these two characters.  Back in 2009 (I discovered them actually after the show went off the air through You Tube), they were the inspiration I needed to have enough courage to start posting stories online about them, and even now I still love to write about them. To know that others still like to read about them, also, is such wonderful encouragement to me, so again, I appreciate everything you wrote. I admit that sometimes I do not have a lot of confidence at times in what I write, even after all this time, so words like yours truly do help, as well as the feedback.:)

You might be happy to know that I just completed a multi-chaptered new story for a fan fiction challenge over on Live Journal, and after it's posted there (after a week), I can start posting it on here.:)  So I hope you will enjoy that one as well.  I MAY also have a short one-shot in the "Parent Trap" universe coming up, if I can find enough time to do it.

I hope you and your family are having a wonderful Christmas today!  And I hope the coming year is a happy and peaceful one for you and your loved ones

Thank you again for all your kind words.  i appreciate that so much.;)  *Hugs*  ~Kim

We are grateful to you for sharing your wonderful talent with us. I hope Emmett and Uncle Vic can come up with a good solution for our boys. You made tears come to my eyes when the boys were discussing thier love for each other and being apart. No goodbyes.

Dee Dee

Author's Response:

Hi, Dee Dee!  Thank you for your kind words, my friend.  I think you know me well enough by now that I won't let the boys stay unhappy forever.;)  The resolution to this story should be coming fairly soon. It's been a long journey for them (and for me), but I have enjoyed writing about them in this 'verse.';)

I hope you have a wonderful Christmas, and a Happy New Year. We already know of a couple of exciting things coming up, but the best part will be finally getting to meet you!  Looking forward to that.;)  Thanks again.  ~Kim

I'm really curious about Vic's idea ...

And I trust in you to find the perfect solution for Justin's and Brian's future - together ;)

Merry Christmas and a happy New Year to you, too!

Author's Response:

Hi, there! Thank you for reading, and especially for taking the time to leave feedback.  I know sometimes it can be a real pain in the neck, trying to do that with those pesky security numbers, so I appreciate you doing that.;)

I will get this updated just as soon as I can; I'm in the middle at the moment of finishing up a multi-chaptered fic behind the scenes for a fan fiction community, so that one should be posted here within a couple of weeks. But rest assured, I will be continuing to work on updating this one, as well as my other WIP until they are both done.

Thanks again for your support; Merry Christmas and Happy New Year to you as well! ~Kim

Hi, Kim! I’m happy to see you updated again so soon, it’s a wonderful Christmas present!

It’s a very rare thing to see Brian and Craig bond. I loved their conversation, it was both hilarious and serious. Brian’s depression over Justin’s going away is palpable – and I love Craig’s concern. Nothing is more wonderful than seeing love he gives Justin after all misunderstandings.

It was also amazing to see Sarah and Justin’s interaction. With such supportive in-laws, I’m absolutely confident in our boys’ future.

And finally, Brian and Justin together… the tenderness and love between them is incredible, I absorb every word – your style is very beautiful, Kim. It’s sad that Brian is rather pessimistic now, but it’s also very in-canon, he’s always been like that.

Merry Christmas, Kim! I look forward to seeing your updates in the new year :)

Author's Response:

Hi, Katrin! As always I look forward to your thoughtful comments.;)  As for my style I am glad you like it.  I guess I'm just a big, romantic sap.;)  And while I know what a jerk Craig was on the show, I'm actually enjoying writing him here in a more positive vein.  I do hope you contunue to enjoy the rest of it; I see probably a couple more  chapters to go as we head toward Justin's journey off to college.

Thanks again for all the consistent support, Katrin. I hope you have a wonderful Christmas as well, and a very happy and peaceful New Year.  ~Kim

Author's Response:

Hi, dear friend!  I appreciate your support so much, and your friendship and I am happy that you are continuing to enjoy this story. It is slowly coming to an end; I would think perhaps a couple more chapters (?). Thanks for reading, and for the feedback; I am very grateful for that. ~Kim

Author's Response:

Hi, Frances!  I know what you mean; Justin is excited, and Brian is happy for his success, but they both have aching hearts at the thought of being separated.  I'll have to see what I can do about that.;)

Thank you for reading this story, and especially for the feedback.  I really appreciate that. Merry Christmas to you, too!  ~Kim

Love this story. Love how Craig got caught out with his and Jen's ages being the same as Justin and Brain's....LOL Ahh the joys of parenthood when it comes back to bite you in the butt.

Merry Christmas and have a very happy New Year......

Author's Response:

Hi, Monica!  I'm so thrilled that you're still enjoying this story.  Thank you for letting me know that. :)  Yes, I thought it would be ironic to show Craig that he and Jennifer's romance wasn't all that different from the boys.  I have been having fun writing them in this different environment, and I will miss them.  I'm thinking probably a couple more chapters before it's done.

Thanks again for all the support, and I hope you have a wonderful Christmas and Happy New Year, too.;)  ~Kim

I loved the ‘what are your intentions’ conversation Craig had with Brian.

Loved the heavy but good angst about Brian’s fear of Justin leaving him behind, emotionally and physically.

This story still owns me.

Thanks for providing this before Christmas and Happy Holidays!

Author's Response:

Hi, Sandra! Thank you for continuing to read this story, and for your thoughts on the parts that you liked about this chapter; that is always very helpful to me.;)  And that line about the story 'owning you' is wonderful. It really makes me happy to know that you still enjoy this story. Hi Kim -I have to say, I like this Craig so much better than the way he was portrayed in the TV show, that one was a total jerk  >:( . I’m wondering how Brian and Justin will handle the separation once Justin goes off to Vanderbilt, though it will be interesting to see what Vic and  Emmett  come up with ;  )

Hope you have a great Christmas, my friend :  ) *Hugs* Janet

Author's Response:

Hello, dear friend.  Yes, Craig is much more civil here. Still a little wary of Brian, but much more willing to accept Brian and Justin's relationship.  Now I have to find a way to make these lovers happy.

I think I can wrap this up (hopefully) in a couple more chapters. I'm so glad you're enjoying it.  I hope you have a wonderful Christmas, my friend. I'll be thinking of you and your family.  *Hugs*  ~Kim

This chapter made me cry happy tears. I just wish Craig would stop hoping for the boys to break up....because I don't think that's likely to happen ;)

Author's Response:

Hi, Tamara! Sorry for the late reply; my charger cord malfunctioned on my Surface and I had to get a replacement.   I think Craig is just trying to be cautious with his youngest son. He realizes that the two DO care deeply for each other, but he is still a bit afraid of Justin being hurt. I do think he's come a long way since the beginning of their relationship, and wouldn't do anythiing to stop them.  I also think you are correct; no matter what Craig's prediction, I don't think he's going to be able to separate them, no matter what the distance.;)

I'll be getting this udpated again very soon. Thank you as always for reading, and especially for the feedback, Tamara. Both are very much appreciated. *Hugs* ~Kim

Nice update! Looking forward to "decision time," for Brian and Justin. Can't imagine Brian sitting home on the farm when Justin heads off to school. I'm sure he'll come up with some sort of plan to keep them togther AND take care of his aunt & uncle.

Author's Response:

Hi, Trish!  Yeah, I can see Brian wanting to take care of his aunt and uncle, but I really don't see him sitting there on the farm as the 'doting housewife,' so to speak, while Justin is in school. So we'll have to do something about that.;)  Thank you for reading this latest chapter, and for the feedback, my friend.  BTW, hope to hear about you attending Photo Op's premiere. I was so happy to see this chapter! It seems ages have passed since you’ve updated this, I miss it so much.

The scene with Justin throwing himself in Brian’s arms was so sweet and touching, you described it in such a beautiful way. The connection between the boys is palpable and rare.

I just thought that it would be awesome to see a movies based on this story. It has such a unique atmosphere, I savor every line of every chapter – it all would look awesome on the screen.

The moment with Will and Sarah broke my heart. Maybe it’s because the nature surrounds them here, but everything feels stronger – love and grief as well. I admire Will for his strength, and every moment he shares with Brian is so special. He is strict and unyielding sometimes, but it’s obvious how much his cares for the boy. I hope Brian feels it.

I understand why Justin is sp hesitant about riding again. He needs some time. I hope his parents won’t push him into something he is not ready for.

Thanks, Kim! It was an amazing update, as always. I look forward to the next one!

Author's Response:

Hi, Katrin! Thank you as always for reading, and especially commenting. Sigh...I know. How I wish I could update faster! But I just posted the next part, so hopefully you will continue to enjoy it.  Each time I think this story is at its end, it keeps going.;)  But I don't want readers to think I'm rushing this just to get it finished. But it is winding down toward its conclusion.  The main issue I will need to address is what happens when the boys are separated. That will be answered before I'm done.

Thanks again for all your support, Katrin! I appreciate that so much.  *Hugs* ~Kim

The two reminded me of Romeo and Juliet in the beginning of this chapter.  I loved it.

Happy to see Craig going to work to take some pressure off Justin. Perhaps Justin is no longer feels the need to compete now that his family is no longer dependant on him.

Author's Response:

Hi, Sandra! Sorry it has taken me a few days to respond to your review. My additional hours at work are really affecting my response time.  I like your analogy to Romeo and Juliet. :) And yes, the dynamics in the family are definitely changing, and will continue to change,  as will the boys' relationship. I'm so in love with this story... The scene between Sarah and Will was so beautiful. I love that Sarah is defending Brian and that Will let the boys spend some time together. And Justin had so much to deal with, it's not surprising he's holding back... Again, anxiously waiting for the next part even if I'm not looking forward to let this story go... Thank you for another wonderful chapter :)

Author's Response:

Hi, my friend!  It means a lot to me that you have been enjoying this story so much. Thank you for letting me know that.  The scene with Will and Sarah was bittersweet, but I had been wanting to write a scene with them at Dale's grave for some time.  I felt like this was the right time for Will to come to grips more with his son's death.

Hi, Dee Dee - always a delight to hear from you, my friend.;)  Thank you for reading this latest chapter, and for leaving your thoughts.  I will be further addressing Justin's 'stage fright/PTSD' in the next chapter, as well as moving the story forward a little more toward its pendng conclusion. So great - another chapter. My heart broke for Will and Sarah - I can't imagine outliving your child, let alone trying to come to terms with it. Jared really needs a boot up his arse. Hopefully Justin's fears will dissipate as he continues to practice - Vic is right - Justin's heart may not be in it anymore but he'll want to go out 'with a bang'. What better way to show those who wanted to hurt him he won't be beaten down.

Author's Response:

Thank you for reading this latest chapter, and for the feedback, Monica!  Yes, it was hard to write the scene with Sarah & Will. It is a bittersweet day for them on Dale's birthday. But I do think Will is in a better place emotionally now, partly due to Brian helping to ease his grief just a bit.  And good point about wanting to show others that Justin is not afraid of what happened to him.  I will be further addressing his fear in the next part.  I'm probaby envisioning maybe 3, 4 more chapters to this before it's done. Thank you for all the support! I greatly appreciate that. *Hugs*  ~Kim

OH poor Justin he has all the pressure to help out the family and now he has some PTSD from the recent events. However I love the interaction with between the boys.

Author's Response:

Hi, Chris!  Thank you for your support, and for the feedback!  I could just see the two boys over in the apple orchard, flirting with each other.;) And Brian's uncle is finally coming around to accepting them together.  Unfortunately, they may very well be separated come next fall.  And Jared needs to get a job - ha!  I do think he's finally turned a corner in his behavior, though, after their brush with death, but old habits due hard as they say.  It will take a little more time before he loses all the arrogance and conceit, but he IS getting better, and I do think that was a wake up call.

Thanks again for reading, and especially taking the time to comment, Chris! I truly appreciate all the support you give me, and have always given me. *Hugs* ~Kim

Hey Kim...here I am again to support you....all in my best interest...I'm not reading this FF..till it's completed but I want you to know that I'm here, checking everyday if this work is in progress :P...don't let me down ;)

Author's Response:

Hi, Ersilia! That means so much to me, that you would do that, even though you're waiting to read it. Thank you!  It IS getting very close to completion; I would say perhaps a couple more chapters?  So I do hope once I get it done that you will enjoy it. I have certainly enjoyed writing about them in this setting that is so atypical for where Brian would normally be.;)  Thank you for taking the time to indicate your support. That is deeply appreciated.  And don't worry; like all my other stories, this one WILL be completed. I know only too well how it is to get so caught up in a story, only to discover to my great disappointment that it is - and never will be - completed. :(  One of my pet peeves as well as a reader, so I totally understand you waiting. :)

I'm just going to say a simple I love this story...I hope it doesn't end anytime soon.

Author's Response:

Thank you, Tamara!  It makes me happier than you know to hear you say you are enjoying it.  I probably have a couple more chapters before it's put to bed, so to speak.  I have really enjoyed writing in this 'verse that is so different than Brian's normal environment, but I think it's time to end it soon. The interest in it seems to be waning for whatever reason - perhaps because Dale's death has been resolved, perhaps due to all the amazing stories on here right now - but for whatever reason, I think it's time, and the story plot is winding down. That said, though, I DO have some issues still to address, and with my penchant for being wordy, I may need more than two chapters. ;)

Thanks again for all the support you give me and so many other writers on this site. Without readers - and writers, such as you - I think the large majority of us would still be motivated to keep these boys alive.  *Hugs* ~Kim

You could feel the sadness brought on by the celebration of Dale's birthday.  Now Justin has to get back in the saddle so to speak.  Perhaps Brian can help?

Brian and Justin are so cute together here.  I'm sure that Brian is worried about what will happend when/if they have to part ways.

Hi Kim.

LOL, “you win some…you lose some” that is so true in any sport, you can’t win them all, no matter how much you want to.

I’m really glad Brian’s Aunt and Uncle are going to let Brian keep driving although I can definitely understand their reasons for fearing for his safety. I’m wondering (hoping ) if Brian and Justin will eventually be able to race together.

Great chapter, looking forward to more too :  ) *Hugs* Janet

The playful banter between Brian and Justin is so heartwarming – I love seeing them so carefree and happy for once. Like normal teenagers who found love, without dark and dangerous secrets haunting them.

William and Sarah’s relationship is so sweet, loving and – I don’t know, comfortable, that I can’t get enough of them. They’re a good example, the show that love can live for a very long time. Only now I realized how incredible it is that they didn’t break up over the death of their son. A lot of people can’t stay together after this kind of tragedy, it breaks them, destroys their relationship. But Will and Sarah demonstrated that staying together and loving each other through everything is possible. I love them, you created an amazing couple. I love how devoted and protective of Brian they are. Their conversation together was so touching… finally Brian has found his real family, the one that cares about him.

Thank you, Kim, for another captivating, beautiful chapter. I look forward to the next one!

Hi, Katrin! No, I thank YOU for the encouragement and for reading this latest chapter.  I have been somewhat discouraged lately with my writing, so your kind words are greatly appreciated.  I will update this again as soon as I can, along with My Heart's Desire. I'm actually working behind the scenes to write a new story, also, but probably won't post it until I'm finished.  Thanks again for taking the time to review. I am very grateful. *Hugs*  ~Kim

AHA!!! i KNEW YOU WOULD COME TO THIS AFTER A FASHION AND THE ANGST DIED DOWN. I CAN SEE WHERE THIS MIGHT GO AND THE MONEY THAT MIGHT BE WON, GOOD CHAPTER. SRY FOR THE CAPS SOMETHING WRONG WITH THIS DANG COMPUTER-IT'S OFF MORE THAN IT SHOULD BE. HAVE TO HAVE IT CHECKED AGAIN!! WE ARE ALL GOOD HERE-LOOKS LIKE WE MAY BE LOSING BB TO ANOTHER HOSPITAL. WERE ARE VERY UPSET BUT HAPPY FOR HIM--THINGS CHANGED. HE SAID HE IS GETTING OLDER AND WANTS TO SLOW DOWN A LITTLE AND ENJOY SOME THINGS MORE. I GUESS HE IS GOING TO BE TEACHING. WILL LET YOU KNOW AS THINGS UNFOLD. LEE IS DOING WELL, STILL SAVING MONEY FOR HIS OWN PLACE. DON'T KNOW WHEN THAT WILL BE-MY GUESS IT WILL BE SOON. EVERYONE IS MOVING AROUND, NOT TO MY LIKING, BUT THAT'S LIFE. LOL

Author's Response:

Hi, my friend - sorry for the late response; it has been so busy for me lately.  I'm sorry to hear that you will likely be losing Brian to another hospital, but I can understand him wanting to do what is best for him.  Sounds like Lee is doing well; I am very happy to hear that.  He is such a sweet man.  And you sound like such a compassionate, caring friend. He is lucky to have you in his life.;)

I am slowly heading toward the conclusion of this story, as well as Lee's favorite.  Don't know how long it will take, but I'm going to try and show some restraint before I start another one, and at least have a good amount of it written before I post it. In the meantime, it's good to know there are a lot of other talented writers on here to keep everyone interested.  Thanks again for all the support, lindc! Hi Kim!

As always, it's great to read an update to this story. And, as with your other stories, it's always bittersweet knowing the last chapters are nearing. I know you will wrap this up in great style, with our boys having a beautiful future ahead of them, but it's always hard to say goodbye to them even in a fanfic platform. I know this only too well!

This was a fabulous chapter, my friend. There has been so much character development throughout, and your constant attention to detail never ceases to amaze me. I'm afraid I can't discipline myself to keep that up in my own projects. I might start out doing so... but, then I either get lazy or RL just throws too many curves. :)

Hang in there. I know how discouraging it is when the feedback isn't so forthcoming. I'm trying to keep going myself. Thank you for the update, and looking forward to more. *Hugss* Janet

Author's Response:

Hi, Janet - glad to have you back from your trip.;)  I really appreciate you taking the time to leave me your thoughts, and for the encouragement.  We both know what you mean about feedback.  Hard to keep going sometimes, and it starts to make you question yourself, at least as far as my writing goes.  I start to think, is it any good anymore?  But like you, I will never leave a story unfinished, and I care about this one, as well as my other one, so I will forge on until the end.;)

I'm still playing catchup on stories my self, but should be heading over to Bound by Fate shortly.;p)  Thanks again for all the support. *Hugs* back ~Kim

I'm glad you decided to give this story a try, and that you have been enjoying it.  And yes, I do have a few more issues to resolve before it's finished; the unanswered questions will be handled before it's complete.

Author's Response:

Hi, my friend - thank you for taking the time to read this latest chapter. Yes, it's bittersweet to come to a story's end as I'm sure you know. You do not need to ologise for the time between chapters of your flics we are blessed to be the recipients of your writing skills.
It looks like Brian has really found his true family and Will and Sarah are coming to a place of peace with Dale

Author's Response:

Hi, Chris!  Thank you for your kind words.  To be honest, if it weren't for the few who leave comments and for my vow to never leave a story unfinished, I might not even post anymore. It gets very discouraging at times when there is little feedback. Your words of support really help, then.  Thank you so much. Lovely chapter Kim. Will and Sarah finding out wasn't nearly as bad as I thought it would be. I'm glad they are supportive of Brian's training. Nice to see Brian and Justin just being silly together after all the drama they to laugh! As I've said i dread the ending of this story but do so look forward to more. I don't mind the wait for updates they are always worth it my friend.

Well done!!

Author's Response:

Hi, Susan! Thank you for reading this latest chapter, and for taking the time to comment.  I think both Brian and his aunt and uncle have changed throughout Brian's visit there.  I'm glad that you are still enjoying this story.  I would guess two, perhaps three more chapters, depending upon length?  I am writing some more new ones behind the scenes, but don't think I will post them unless they are either completely done or close to it. I worry too much about getting them updated, so I think that would be best.

I've already read this chapter twice so I must apologize for reviewing so late. I have be searching for days for a good romance on TV and in published fiction and couldn't find any. And then DUH, your name popped in my head as well as a few other QAF writers. I spent any free time I had today reading The Parent Trap since I wanted a completed story.

Now back to my current favorite, you did a spectacular job of portraying just how much Brian loves Justin by how he shot out of the house after hearing the gunshot. I thought it was beautiful how concerned and protective he was. I was also in awe of how well Craig loved his boys and how he was the hero this time instead of the villain he normally is in pics. You also  made all the main characters realistic and likeable. I could about this bucolic place and people for years to come.

Author's Response:

Hello, Sandra! Always good to hear from you.;)  I'm glad you liked this latest chapter. I imagine everyone probably expected Brian to be Justin's savior, but I thought Craig would actually be a better choice here.  I want to reunite the two brothers eventually, and this seemed like a good start in that direction.

Even though Dale's death has mainly been resolved now, I still have a few more issues to be concluded before I'm done with this story, so I hope you will continue to enjoy it and read when you can. Thanks as always for your support! That means so much to me. *Hugs* ~Kim

I love your fic! And it's so well written <3

I can't wait to read the next chapter!

But... There is something that bothers me. Justin, after yeeeeaaaars of training, loses against Brian? Whereas it's his first "real contact" with a horse? Err.... It' a little easy, isn't it? I mean... It's not possible... Well, at least, it's what I think.

Anyway! Update soon, please!

Author's Response:

Hi, there! Thank you for reading this story, and for your kind comments; I truly appreciate you leaving your thoughts after reading this latest chapter, and I am happy that you are enjoying this story.

I see your point about Brian. You may be right. But the way I looked at it, Justin is still recovering somewhat from his fall, which would put him at a slight disadvantage, and in a lot of cases the horse's speed could be the determining factor. Dale used to race True Blue and win with him; so while Brian certainly doesn't have the same training at all as Justin or Dale, I think if the horse was bonded to him strongly enough, and wanted to race again fervently enough, with Brian's raw talent and love of speed, it might be possible for him to triumph this time over Justin.

Would he be able to do that in a fair race with a fully-recovered Justin?  Likely not, and I will be exploring that a little coming up, although they would never race against each other officially, since Justin would be in a more advanced class of drivers.  Hopefully that explanation is a plausible one.;)

At any rate, I hope it doesn't detract from your enjoyment of the story, and I greatly appreciate you leaving me your thoughts. I hope you continue to enjoy the story, and promise to update this just as soon as I can. Thanks again for the support.  ~Kim

Craig is officially my hero here! I only wish he was more like that in canon. He adores his sons, he’s so protective and loving. Like Brian :) And Jennifer is a perfect mother. This was an amazing chapter, I enjoyed it very much. Brian and Justin clearly don’t intend to let each other go. I sense we’re near the end of this eventful journey?

Author's Response:

Hi, again, Katrin!  Yeah, Craig is a much nicer guy in this universe.;)  And the brothers can finally start to reconcile, even though I think there will always be a sense of competition there. But we all know where Brian's heart lies now.;)

As for the story, I still have a few more things to wrap up, so maybe 4, 5 more chapters? I still have some issues to settle, like Brian's wish to race, his aunt and uncle's reaction to that, as well as what will become of the two farms and the two boys.  I'm so glad you're still enjoying the story!  Thank you for all the feedback and the support, my friend. *Hugs*  ~Kim

Hi, Kim! I recently came back from my vacation and I was excited to see two new chapters of this amazing story!

I have forgiven Jared completely. Brian still hasn’t, though, it’s obvious he still senses some danger from him. His feelings for Justin has made him overprotective – that’s so sweet, I love moments like that. I love that he feels the need to be wary of Jared.

I love how Craig handled the situation, it’s clear he still loves his son a lot, even if he is angry  at him.

Wow… I didn’t see it coming, or I don’t remember something. The ending of the chapter is incredibly intense! Thank God there is another chapter waiting for me already, or I’d die from frustration. Great chapter, Kim.

Author's Response:

Hi, Katrin! First of all, welcome back! I hope you have a wonderful vacation. :)  As always, I'm grateful to you for reading and reviewing, my friend, and I'm happy you liked this chapter.  The ending was pretty intense, but at least I think the boys are finally going to be able to put all this behind them, and concentrate on other matters now.

Yep.  I'm very much hooked.  I'm not sure why everyone is worried about Justin going to college though... Brian can just follow him... or maybe go to college himself.  I bet Brian's never thought of himself as a college boy.  ;-)  Thanks for read.  Looking forward to the next chapter.

Author's Response:

Hi, Frances! You are so kind to read and review; thank you for doing that.  Only by knowing if others are enjoying what I write am I able to gauge interest, and it is very motivating to me.;)

I'm very happy that you are enjoying this, and yes, while Justin has another year yet before he would head off to college, I think both of these very-much-in-love young men can surely find a way to make their relationship work.  That will be one of the things I will be exploring in the rest of the story, along with the brothers' relationship, Emmett, Brian's racing hobby, etc.

I will get this updated again just as soon as I can. Thank you again for all the support!  *Hugs* ~Kim

Way to go Craig! For some reason I was expecting Brian to be at the other end of the shotgun... and I wasn't entirely sure how he would handle that.

Happy to see Jared & Justin patching things up, and glad Jared is once again back in the family fold.

Great update.

Author's Response:

Hi, Trish! Well, I thought about Brian being the lifesaver, but I thought in this case it was more important to establish Craig's love for his sons, and for the two brothers to bond, so he seemed like the best choice for it.  Glad that you are still enjoying this story! Hi Kim,

Such a good chapter-so much happening-brothers back together and the bad guy dead. It will be interesting to see where you take us next-still a lot to be resolved. Looking forward to the next chapter.

Author's Response:

Hello, Mariana! Thank you for continuing to read this story, and for your feedback; that really helps me to stay motivated.;)

As for the story, Justin actually has one more year of high school to go until he leaves for college, so now that Brian is staying with his aunt and uncle, that hopefully gives them time to arrive at a solution to their dillemma; Brian will be torn between wanting Justin to pursue his dream, and wanting him to stay there, so a mutually agreeable decision will need to be made.  In the meantime, I have some other issues to resolve, so I see the story continuing for a while yet.

I do hope you continue to enjoy it, Mariana! Thanks again for the support, and for the feedback; it is greatly appreciated. *Hugs*  ~Kim

Author's Response:

Hi, my friend! Oh my good for Craig stepping up like that in defense of both of his sons. Glad that creep is gone and that Will and Sarah have a little more closure. Not at all surprised Brian got to Justin as quick as he could. Happy Justin and Jared shared a moment I do hope their relationship improves now. Happy Brian and Justin got a few moments alone I am curious as what will happen now with them. I do hope the end of this isn't as close as I think it is now. Can't wait for more as always Kim!!

Well done!!

:)

Author's Response:

Hi, Susan! I'm so happy you're still enjoying this story. I don't think most readers would have thought of Craig being the protector, but I thought it was fitting in this case.  And yes, I do see things improving between the two brothers.

I think a lot of readers are curious as to what will become of B & J, but Justin actually has one more year of high school before they will need to part; hopefully, a certain brunet can work on a solution to their dilemma in the meantime.

I have a lot more to cover yet before this is all said and done; the resolution of Dale's death is but one part of it. I do hope you continue to enjoy it, Susan! Thanks again for all the support. Hope things are well for you at home.;) *Hugs* ~Kim

Now I can breathe again...thank goodness Craig had the presence of mind to act quickly to save his boys. It's also good to see the brothers are trying to mend their relationship. I just hope Brian and Justin can find a way to stay together with Justin’s upcoming departure.

Author's Response:

Hi, Tamara!  Now you knew that I wouldn't let something terrible happen to our boys.;) Although, I do love a good hurt/comfort fic, as long as it's temporary.;)  I thought it was important to reestablish Craig's role in his boys' lives, too, and to help bring them back together.

As for college, Justin actually has one more year to go, since he's still a junior. But that issue WILL be addressed coming up before the story's concluded.  In the meantime, I still have some other topics I would like to cover.

Thanks again for always being as supportive as you are, Tamara. It means more to me than you know, my friend. *Hugs*  ~Kim

Fantastic chapter! Brian and Justin are so beautiful together. I hope that they remain together even when Justin leaves for college ;)

xoxo

Hi, Cait! Thank you for continuing to read and comment; I truly appreciate that.;)  I'm delighted that you are still enjoying this story.  Justin's eventual move to college is going to be covered, along with what's to become of the two young lovers; but in the meantime, I still have quite a bit more to tell, even with Dale's death being resolved.  I do hope you continue to enjoy it, Cait!  I'll get this updated again soon. Lovely chapter.  Nice to see Brian declaring his love.  It's hard to do that without making it sound corny or out of character, but it fits here.  Nicly done.

PS:  Going to the PRIDE parade in Chicago tomorrow!

Author's Response:

Hi, dear friend. I hope you had a wonderful time at the pride parade!  Thank you as always for your comments. I'm happy you enjoyed this chapter.  And yes, It CAN be hard to keep Brian IC, but hopefully I didn't have him stray too far out of his comfort zone here.;)

Thanks for all the support!  I still have a bit more to wrap up, so I hope you will continue to enjoy it.;)  ~Kim

"That's the only three-way you'll every have with me,"

I love that line and I loved how protective Brian was of Justin, but I felt bad for Jared. It seemed that he was truly trying to make amends to everyone. I only hope he gets a chance

Author's Response:

Hello, there!  I'm so appreciate that you chose this story to read, and especially for your thoughtfulness in leaving feedback; thank you.

As for Jared and Justin's relationship, yes, I do think that Jared is really trying here. Whether he gets the chance coming up is still up in the air (you don't want me to give TOO much away, do you?);)  I CAN say that I'm working on the update to this right now, so it shouldn't be too long before it's posted, and you'll know right away who shot whom.;)

Thanks again for reading, and for letting me know that you are enjoying this story! That is very motivating to me, and means a lot. *Hugs* ~Kim

Oh no! I hope the boys are okay.

Was it McComb who fired or someone else? maybe Solomon went to get help after Justin sent him away.

Author's Response:

Hi, Kristi! Thank you for reading this latest chapters, and especially for taking the time to review; I really appreciate that. As for the chapter ending, someone DID get shot.  I won't give anything else away, but I WILL say that you will discover what happened pretty much right away as soon as the next chapter is posted.

I'm working on the update to "My Heart's Desire" now, which is written. So I should be able to update this story fairly quickly.  Thanks again for the support! *Hugs*  ~Kim

Well that's an ending ... you really know to use a cliffhanger! But you would never harm one of our favourite boys - or would you ??? ... So I'm not toooo worried..

Great chapter, thanks!

And also: Thanks a lot for your pics and reports of the ATX Festival, it's truly appreciated!

Author's Response:

Hi, there! Thank you for reading and especially for leaving feedback! I am very appreciative.;)  And no, I would not do that (at least not permanently, anyway; don't want to give TOO much away!). But you will find out quickly what happened in the next part.;)

And I'm glad you enjoyed the report and pics; I'll have a few more coming up in the next day or so.  Thank you again for the support and the encouragement. *Hugs* ~Kim

I think you know what I'm going to say: I WANT THE NEXT CHAPTER RIGHT NOW....ha.. ha...ha....

Very good and informative chapter. This story is getting better and better. "hugs"

Author's Response:

Hi, Mariana! Yes, I know - very evil here!  I'm hopeful I can get the next part up sooner rather than later this time, since I have a little extra (free) time at the moment; I'm working on the update to my other WIP now, so as soon as I'm finished with that installment, I'll be returning back to this one. At least, you WILL know pretty much right away who shot whom (and yes, someone DID get shot, I will at least say that much!)

Thanks so much for reading, and especially your thoughtfulness in leaving a comment. It is much appreciated. *Hugs* back ~Kim

poor jared, I believe him, I even feel so sorry for him! he didn’t want it to happen. Now many people hate him. loved how protective brian was!!! To think that at first he liked jared better. The ending is scary! Please update again soon!

Author's Response:

Hi, Nata! Thank you for taking the time to read and especially comment on my story; I truly appreciate that.  Yes, I think Jared has probably more than paid the price for his prior arrogance.  Has  maybe paid an ultimate price now?  I will be explaining what happened pretty much right away in the next part, and will do my best to get it updated just as soon as I can. I hope you will continue to enjoy this story.  Thanks again for reading and commenting! *Hugs*  ~Kim

Hi Kim,

Whew, you certainly know how to leave a person hanging, don’t you?, haha.

I really feel for Will and Sarah in this, the whole story so far actually, hopefully they will have some closure soon. I love Brian’s protectiveness towards Justin, and Justin’s Spock imitation was great; I used to watch “Star Trek” all the time.

Awww, Brian finally told Justin those three magic words, it’s about time! Haha.  Great chapter and now I’m chewing on my fingernails here waiting to see/read what happens next. *Hugs * Janet

Oh, BTW mine will be up in a few minutes   ;  )

Author's Response:

Hi, Janet! Thank you for reading this latest chapter, and for your feedback, my friend.;  Yes, Will and Sarah have had a difficult time over the past few months; not to mention the time when Dale was killed. I think Will, especially, was traumatized by it, but he is slowly coming to terms with it, thanks in part to both Sarah and to Brian.  I will be soon resolving this arc in the story, though, and they WILL find a certain amount of closure and comfort before that part is done.

I still have quite a bit more to tell regarding Justin and Brian, as well as Justin's relationship with his brother, and what becomes of the boys in the future.

Thank you again for all the support, Janet. I will be explaining pretty quickly who shot whom in the next part, and will get it updated just as soon as I can. *Hugs*  ~Kim
