Not sure if I ever commented on this story when it first came out but I decided to re-read this story for Thanksgiving I love it so much! It's such a feel good kind of story. Thank you!

Such a fun story (which I just discovered). I'll have to reread at Thanksgiving! :)

Hey Vin :)
Like most of your fics I read them before I joined MW and before I even knew what reviewing was all about. I love this thanksgiving story and I love how you incorporated a real event (the volcano in Iceland erupting). It's a really nice thought that nothing can keep these men apart. I hope RL allows you to return to us (your fans) in the near future.
Cheers :)

Poor Brian. It sounds like the way my Thanksgivings go, so I let my husband do the cooking. lol.

It was good that he managed to get a berth on the train. Having to travel without being able to bathe would be irritating. On the other hand, if he ran into the family with all the children, it just might have kept them away. What more can go wrong on the trip?

Boy a lot happens to conspire to keep Justin away for Thanksgiving. There's going to be a lot of running involved. Will he make it in time?

How lovely. An eight year old daughter and reminiscing about their first Thanksgiving together after Justin returned from New York!

I read this a while ago. I had forgotten it had started with a daughter. It's a nice Thanksgiving story. I'll have to read it again to get the full effect.
Author's Response: Thank you, no sleep! I've always liked the idea of Brian and Justin having a girl, for some reason. I guess since he already has Gus (sort of), it would be different for him to raise a girl.
Glad you liked the story.

Vin

Don't remember what writer said about good writing, but the words ring true to me: "A good story is the one that evokes strong emotions in the reader. If the reader cares about the people in the story and what will happen to them, then he'll keep reading it..." and blah, blah, blah...
I think you, Vin, achieved it, at least for me because your story made me laugh and made me hungry and made me want to join that gang and eat with them and joke and drink that beer and talk talk talk and...see that great love in Brian's and Justin's eyes that they have for each other. So I did care about that lovely couple and whether they would get together on Thanksgiving despite all the obsticles. I feel such satisfaction and joy from reading it. You writing is so vivid, I feel like I just watched a movie, instead of reading it. Thanks. And KEEP writing!

"You fuckers had no faith in my cooking ability whatsoever, did you?"
Duh! :))))
It's hilarious! Made me laugh so hard! And...made me soooo damn hungry! I hated to eat the leftovers from this last Thanksgiving for almost a week, but now, while reading about all that food, even if ruined, I wished I still had them, since I couldn't "get into the story" and join those twenty at their table (which I wanted to do so much!)
It's a wonderful story! Thanks, Vin!
Reviewer: NMS (Anonymous) · Date: December 06, 2011 04:06 AM · On: Top Chef...Maybe...
This chapter cracked me up. It really IS hilarious. And I felt the same urge as all the members of the "gang" to get there, to Brian's kitchen, and give him a hand, despite his threat of being thrown out. Well done, Vin!

This chapter is my favorite!!! Good writing! Detailed, emotional, vivid, humorous, moving. Justin's character shows through and through. The minor characters are very well captured, too. I just love that loud, abnoxious polyglot! But only to read about her, not to ride on the same train with her :) No, scratch that! On second thought, I'd LOVE to come along with Justin on this trip. Would be soooo much fun!
Despite the very last sentence (...he couldn't have been more wrong...), I still believe (WANT to believe) that Justin will eventually make it to the dinner (even if it's already cooked).
Reviewer: NMS (Anonymous) · Date: December 06, 2011 03:27 AM · On: Ash & Other Disasters...
I admire Justin's determination to GET to not only get to the dinner on time, but to cook it too- it certainly takes guts just to think about it, much less to accomplish it. So I'd LOVE to see how he'll manage to endure his painfully-detailed-exhausting marathon. Hope he'll make it.

Natalie is ADORABLE, as well as the relationship among all three of them.
Dying to know what that first Thanksgiving was like. But I think Natalie's rendition would be too cute, what with her mannerism and gestures and her acute awareness of her dads' love and affection for her (which she exploits to the full :)))

What a cute, sweet story, Vin! Loved the way you handled Brian's first try at Thanksgiving dinner and how all the gang rallied around him to salvage it, even though it really wasn't his fault (except the bird). Clever, too, how you had Justin arrive with the turkey burgers to save the day. I always enjoy seeing the boys happy and getting a glimpse into their future. Thanks for sharing this story with us.:P)

Yay Justin’s stateside! Loved his comments about Charlotte. Poor Brian, underestimating how long all this would take, such a rookie move! At least he got the turkey in the oven. Alas, the mashed potatoes may not make it… potato soup anyone? ;)

I'm with Cynthia, that is so "unbelievably sweet" of Brian to cook, and a little scary, hee. I want Justin to at least get over the ocean so bad!
Author's Response: As I've said at the very beginning - nothing terrible will happen to our boys. This is basically a fluff piece. Now, the dinner... well, we'll see if they survive that! :)
Thanks for commenting!

Ack, this trip is wearing me out just reading about it! ;p Those kicking, out of control kiddies are the worse. Had one behind me on a plane once, kicking my seat, the little dear. I can see why Justin opted to move on the ferry. At least he got a bed and shower on the night train.
"Unfortunately, he couldn't have been more wrong..." Uh oh
Author's Response: Thanks for the comment, Armandyouidiot! Yes, travel with and among children - it's never dull! :)

unfortunately, travel in europe is very much like that, especially on their trains. poor justin--but he's cope and be fine. his ultimate goal ever on his mind. so good :)
Author's Response: I lived in Europe as an exchange student in college and I've taken enough train, ferry and plain trips around the EU to have experienced just about everything - the screaming babies, the kicking toddlers, the arguing teens AND the loud cell-phone talking, multilingual businesswomen. All of those elements were pretty much taken from various trips in my RL.
Glad you liked it!

My heart went pitter-pat when Brian yelled to Justin in the security lin and caused his “incandescent smile.” So romantic!
“Eyjafjallajökull.” She answered absently, still riveted by the news coverage on screen.
“Gesundheit!” HAHAHA
