Author's Response:
LOL!  Yes, that was one of the most pivotal chapters.:)  So glad to see you still enjoying it, Vonnie!  You're slowly building up toward their encounter - get ready for the roller coaster ride!  Thank you again for all the comments.:)  *Hugs* ~Kim

Woohoo!!! *Doing my happy dance* Alex is history and Brian figured out the switcheroo!! Katie is doing a slightly better job pretending to be Kaylee (and did a hell of a job convincing Justin that she was sick at just the right time), but I'm sure Justin will soon put the pieces together. I was actually expecting Justin to figure it out first, but seeing that filling in what was supposed to be Katie's mouth set off the alarm the most with Brian (which could never be explained), along with the 180 change in her wardrobe choices.

I've been a little sickly for the last couple of days (per usual during this time of year, with the increased humidity and outdoor allergens), so this story is perking me up big time!! It's also distracting me from the fact that I have another Biology test on Tuesday *groan* On to chapter 13!! :D

Author's Response:

Hi, Sweetie - so sorry to hear you've been under the weather - I know my sinuses always kick up around here due to the weather, too, so I can certainly sympathize!  Thank you for your comments on this chapter - as you can see, Justin does not have much patience for any man who would not treat his daughter with the right respect; that would most definitely be a deal breaker in his eyes. It won't be long now before he lays eyes on the man he's still deeply in love with, too, which will hopefully start them on a journey back together.  So glad you're enjoying this one, Nancy; thank you for all your support.:)  Hope you feel a lot better soon and ace your biology test!  Looking forward to more of your own story.:)  *Hugs*  ~Kim

Where is chapter 13? I want Chapter 13! I demand chapter 13!!!!

So freaking looking forward the united of the boyz :)

Author's Response:

Hi, June!  First of all, welcome to the site!  Thank you for reading my story and for your comment; I'm very flattered that you're looking forward to the next chapter!  You will be glad to know that I am working on it right now, and yes, I DO see them finally laying eyes on each other again in Chicago.  I don't see Justin just falling into Brian's arms, though; that is going to take a while.  But both the girls AND Brian - and Jen - all ganging up on him now?  The poor guy won't stand a chance - ha!

Thanks again for leaving feedback!  I really appreciate that.:)  I should have the next chapter up very shortly.  *Hugs*  ~Kimberly

Oh my god. I didn't take notice of the fact that this story wasn't finished. Please, you got to update. This is so good. I can't wait to see what's going to happen. Please, again I say, update!!!!!!!!!!!!

Author's Response:

Hi, Tay!  Sorry I inadvertenty dragged you into a WIP, but I'm glad you're reading it anyway, because I got some very lovely comments out of it.:)  Thank you for the wonderful feedback; I've very honored.  I know it was an awful place to leave it at!  But I'm down to just three WIPs right now and am about to update "Heart's Desire."  I DO have an update to "Paper Hearts Killer" that I really do need to do next but this one is coming up right after that.  As with all my stories, I promise to update this regularly and especialy to finish it.

I know how frustrating it can be to read a story in progress and want to know the end!  But I thank you for reading it anyway and especially for taking the time to review.  I promise to get it updated very soon, and I hope you continue to enjoy it.  I'm just now getting to what I consider the pivotal part of the story, so it should be getting quite interesting (wink wink).  *Hugs*  ~Kimberly

Hi.  I have just read this for the umpteeth time as something keeps nattering at me...namely Michael.  Alex may not be the only obstacle to K&K's efforts to reunite their fathers.  Perhaps Michael has influenced the negative events in B&J's lives.  How many people knew the real reason for the dissolution of their partnership...other than Jennifer...how did Michael know?

Author's Response:

Good Morning, my friend - thanks for the thought-provoking comments and for reading my story.  That is a very good question about Michael.  I won't lie and say he's my favorite character - there was always something about him that grated on my nerves, but I'm trying not to be too harsh on the guy; after all, Brian DID see him as his best friend, although I think toward the end he was leaning less and less on their friendship once Justin came along.  I'm sure from the tone of Michael's voiceover when he said  "That's when HE came along," that there was always some jealousy going on there that Justin had what he could never have for himself.

I don't want to give too much away in the story, because Michael will return at some point, but suffice to say that I don't think Michael has been the biggest supporter of them overall.  Whether Brian disclosed the real reason for their breakup remains to be seen.  Thanks again for reading - I promise to update this as soon as possible.:)~Kimberly

Leave it to Brian to figure it out first.

I rushed through my work so that I could take a break to read this. Loved it!

Alex was finally sent packing and the boys will have to talk now that the ruse has been uncovered.

Please update soon.

Author's Response:

Hi, my friend!  THANK YOU for the comments!  Yes, I thought Brian should be the one, too; I think it fits his personality.:)  He seems to be a little less trusting and more suspicious and cynical if you will.:)  I will probably break from my story rotation briefly so I can update this one next, although I feel guilty about neglecting the others.:(  (Sigh)  ...But I probably will anyway because of the terrible cliffhanger ending - ack!  Thank you again for reading so many of my stories and for the wonderful comments; I appreciate that so much.:)  *Hug*  ~Kimberly

Finally, Brian catches up with the differences in his daughter "Katie" since the camp and Justin seems not so far behind, too, with his "Kaylee". Now the show can go on to the first meet-up of the daddies. Maybe Brian should get a good dose jelaousie, because I don't think Alex'll give up that easy. Because of your story I read the original Kästner's "Das doppelte Lottchen" again. as a filler between your updates ;-)

Author's Response:

Hi, my friend!  Always a delight to hear your thoughts and to know you're following one of my stories.;)  Thank you for the thoughtful comments.  Yes, you may just be right about Alex; I don't think it's going to sit too well with him that he let a pre-teen girl get the best of him.  And I DO so love a jealous Brian, even though in actuality he will have nothing to worry about where Justin's heart is concerned.:)

Thank you for telling me about Das doppelte Lottchen - I had to go look that up - OMG, there are a lot of similarities there, even the attention to each girls' styles and personalities!  I didn't even know that movie existed.:)  I was only aware of the two "Parent Trap" movies with Hayley Mills and Lindsay Lohan.:)  Now I wish I could speak German!  Actually, I bought a German language DVD in hopes that I can learn at least a little before I attend the convention in June - wish me luck!

Thank you again for reading and for the comments - I love the feedback!  I'm working hard to finish up two of my shorter stories - "Framed for Christmas" and "Hunka" - so once I do that I can hopefully update the other three WIPs a lot faster.  In the meantime, I hope you will continue to enjoy this one as well as some of my other stories..:)  *Hugs* ~Kimberly

Haha.. Of course Brian found out what was happening. Can't wait for the reunion! Is Alex really gone? Please say yes! Another great chapter :o)

Author's Response:

Hi, Yvee, my friend!  As always, you're so good about reviewing; thank you for the constant support.:)  Hmm......as irritating as Alex is, I'm not sure I can pass up one more opportunity for Brian to get a glimpse of the would-be suitor....not sure if I can put him back in there in a legitimate way, but I really hate to pass up an opportunity to write about a jealous Brian - ha!  Will have to see.  Right now, though, my main focus is bringing Brian and Kaylee back to Chicago for the fateful, first meeting since the breakup.  I do see that happening in the next chapter.  And I may break from my story rotation to continue with another chapter after updating and/or finishing "Framed" if enough readers want me to, because I know I left it at a terrible cliffhanger! (any takers?)

At any rate, Justin's going to have a hard time standing up against a conspiracy of three now, but I'm sure going to have fun writing about it!  Thanks again for all your support of my stories, Yvee; it definitely helps me to keep writing if I know others are enjoying them (In fact, it's the ONLY reason why I write these - that and my love for these guys!).  *Hugs* ~Kimberly

Hey, no fair! and what was katie's reaction?  I scrolled and scrolled and no more words..........

The tooth filling was an absolute genius idea!

Especially ejoyed the 'manipulative little felines…' bit

Author's Response:

(Sigh)...I know - I was up to 14,000 words and after hours of writing it, I unfortunately came to the conclusion that I had to stop somewhere.  I at least wanted to get to the part where Brian finally realizes he has the other daughter with him.  If readers don't mind me holding back a little on updating my OTHER stories, I may just write another chapter of this one first (after updating "Framed."  With it being a Christmas story, I'm really trying to get that one done sooner rather than later...).  As far as Katie's reaction, she's sure to find out that the jig is up soon, but she's not aware just yet that Kaylee's identity has been discovered yet.

Glad you liked the way their ruse was eventually uncovered; I always thought Brian would be the one to figure it out first.  I hope you will forgive the unfortunate stopping point and will continue to enjoy the story. Thank you for taking the time to leave feedback; that means a lot to me.:)~Kimberly

GOT MY PAPERWORK FINALLY DONE, HAD SOME SPARE TIME-VERY RARE AROUND HERE.  STILL HAVE SOME SURGICAL STUDENTS TO CONTEND WITH.  NOT REALLY.  THEY ARE DOING WELL.  SORRY, I DIGRESS.. THIS CHAPTER WAS VERY GOOD.  THESE GIRLS ARE HAVING FUN LIVING LIFE ON THE EDGE.  SOON THINGS WILL BE VERY CONFRONTATIONAL.  I AM INTERESTED TO SEE HOW YOU WILL WRITE THIS REUNION.  ONE OF MY STUDENTS IS A GALE FAN.  ALL SHE TALKS ABOUT IS THE SECRET CIRCLE.  WE HAD A DISCUSSION ABOUT QAF.  SE HAD HEARD OF IT AND HAD SEEN SOME VIDEOS SOMEWHERE.  I TOLD HER, IF INTERESTED, TO CHECK YOU OUT.  HER NAME IS LIN-ANNE IF SHE SHOULD HAPPEN TO REVIEW.

Author's Response:

Hi, dear friend! I'm always honored when you take time out of what must a terribly busy schedule to read my latest chapter and leave feedback for me.  That means so much to me as you know; thank you for that!  Yes, Justin won't just go rushing into Brian's arms, but he IS going to find himself vastly outnumbered by both Brian AND both daughters this time!  That will be a formidable trio to contend with!  But he has been hurt, and with Justin he feels things very deeply, especially with Brian having broken a promise to him; something that he rarely if ever did.

The girls will get to now turn their attention away from harrassing Alex the interloper and expend their energy toward getting their fathers back together!  It won't be easy, but we all know how it's going to turn out eventually.  I hope in the meantime that you and everyone else enjoys the ride (well, except for that one person who reviewed that obviously has a very different opinion regarding the plot....! (sigh)....)

Anyway, thank you again, my friend, for all the support and for recommending me to your student!  I would love to hear some of the conversations you, lindc, Lee, and the other peeps have about QAF and its actors at the hospital or sit in on one of lindc's readings - LOL!  BTW - I got my tickets today for Randy's play "Red" next month in New Jersey - I'm going on 2/18.  Yes, I know - I'm totally obsessed!  But it's a nice weekend treat for me and a friend, and gives me something to look forward to during the cold, bitter winter days like today (it's presently about 18 degrees - brrrr!!).  Thanks again, Sweetie, and hope you have a wonderful weekend!~Kimberly

I am totally loving this story.  What a smart guy Brian is to think about the horses.  I was wondering what dad would figure it out.  Will be waiting to see what transpires in the next chapter.  This meeting is going to be epic, but not too friendly i think.

Author's Response:

Hi, Kym!  Always so great to hear from you, my friend!  You're so wonderful about reviewing and leaving feedback, and I thank you very much for that.:)  I think you're right; their meeting is going to be very emotional for all of them, but Justin is going to be less than receptive at first.  He still feels deeply for Brian, but even now he still harbors some hurt over the promise that Brian broke so long ago.  That being said, with both girls AND Brian on the same team, poor Justin's about to be ambushed!  I'm going to enjoy have Brian pursuing HIM for a change, though.:)

Thank you again for all your kind words, Kym, and for your continuing support; I appreciate that so much.:)~Kimberly

Wonderful, but ... pssttt ... you made a big mistake ... the chapter is too short. You forgot to write the reaction of Kaylee * giggles * . Aggrrr need an update NOW ... sorry.

* hugs *

Author's Response:

Hi, dear friend!  Too short?  Ack!  I think that one was 14,000 words!  I feel like Goldlilocks - some readers probably think it's way too long, others think it's too short - LOL!  Seriously, thank you, my friend for the words of support.:)  I will definitely be featuring more bonding time between father and daughter in the next chapter - it will be continued immediately from the ending of this chapter.  Then it's off to Chicago for the momentous meeting between the two ex-partners.  (Of course we all know they won't be ex-partners forever, though, right?)  Thanks for all your encouragement, Marny; that means so much to me.:)  *Hugs*~Kimberly

It's been awhile since I've written a review, but never fear i have been definitely reading this story by my fave writer and waiting with anticipation for each chapter which are written brilliantly by the way.  Loving the interaction between Katie and Alex  she's like a mini Brian who ever gets in her way she just moves them by any means necessary.  P.S. Save your typing skills for the great story, these haters who can't think outside the box are not worth your time.

Author's Response:

Hi, my friend.:)  Thank you for taking the time to let me know that you are enjoying the story; the 'fave writer' part makes me very happy.:)  You're very perceptive; I always imagined that if Katie lived with Brian that she would have to inherit some of his tenacity and creativity.:)  What better way to manifest itself than by getting rid of that pesky Alex?  Ha!

As far as the other reviewer goes, I know I should be the 'bigger person' and just let it slide.  But I guess I take my writing to heart a little too much.  Probably a good reason why I shouldn't  try and publish something - those rejection letters would be real killers - ha!

Thank you again for the words of encouragement - that means so much to me.:) I will work to get this updated sooner rather than later! *Hugs*~Kimberly

GOOD NIGHT NURSE! THIS WAS A GOOD ONE.  NICE CLIFF HANGER.  BRIAN GOT IT.  NEXT CHAPTER WILL HAVE SPARKS I FEAR.  COULDN'T SLEEP SO THOUGHT I'D SEE WHAT, IF ANYTHING, YOU WERE UP TO.  YIKES!  YOU HAVE BEEN BUSY-THIS WAS A LONG ONE.  I READ SOME REVIEWS FROM YOUR READERS.  MOSTLY GREAT REVIEWS WELL DESERVED.  DON'T PAY MUCH ATTENTION TO THE TROLLS THAT LEAVE STUPID NO CREDENCE REVIEWS.  YOU HAVE MANY GREAT FOLLOWERS THAT GIVE YOU WONDERFUL REVIEWS.  THERE ARE A LOT OF UNKIND PEOPLE IN THE WORLD.  YOUR REBUTTAL WAS BRILLIANT.  WAY TO GO !!  I DUG IT. LUV 2 U.

Author's Response:

Aww...Lee, what would I do without your encouragement, my dear friend?  You're so wonderfully kind to me!  I liked the "Good night, nurse" comment by the way - ha!

Yes, this one started out relatively slow and short in words and kind of blew up after that - LOL!  And I hated to leave it at that cliffhanger, but I had to stop it at some point.  I may try to update this one a little earlier than normal because of where I had to stop it, though.

If I remember correctly, you're about to go back to work, right?  Congratulations!  I'm sure you're looking forward to that!  Let me know how it works out for you.  I'm sure everyone is ecstatic over your return, and you'll be arriving in style now, too, with those fancy wheels.:)  Thanks again, Lee, for all the kindness you've shown me; I hope I can continue to write stories that you, lindc, Brian, and all the other 'peeps' will enjoy.  *Big * hug to you, my friend.:)

we had a bet going who would guess first.  i won of course.  everyone thought justin was smarter. huh!!  i know how smart our man is-didn't get where he is by not being good at deduction.  i wish you would write another chapter here before joining the campaigners on the trail.  this story is going down as one of our favorites.  whoops, that's crap--all your stories are our favorites.  that being said it's back to work.  have a great weekend, hopefully fingers to keyboard. ha!  lol

Author's Response:

Hello, my special friends!  Don't know what I would do without your ongoing support for my stories; that means more than you'll ever realize.:)

I hope you got something for winning your bet, lndc - ha!  I never see Justin as being dumber or less perceptive than Brian, but I thought with their characteristics and personalities that Brian would probably be the one that would be more apt to take a step back and view it from a more analytical perspective and realize what was going on.  I plan to pick up exactly where I left off in this chapter in the next one before Brian and Kaylee return to Chicago for the momentous meeting between the boys and to reunite the sisters again.  Then look out, Guys!  The girls' work will just be starting.:)

BTW - I'm going to see Randy in New Brunswick, N.J. in "Red" on February 18 - I am now officially obsessed!  Can't wait to see him in his newest role.  Any chance you might go to see him, too?  Would LOVE to meet all of you one day, but I'm not sure how close you are to that area.

Anyway, thank you so much for all your kindness.  I'm not sure how I got so lucky to have such supportive readers as you and your friends, but I will be forever grateful for that.  It keeps me going when I begin to doubt myself.:) *Biggest of hugs* to you all.:)  ~Kimberly

I read your response to Charle's comment re: twisting your arm to get this story out of rotation just this once (*wink, wink*) for a faster update. So, I just COULDN'T resist adding a little note...

...CONSIDER YOUR ARM TWISTED! (at least by little ole me... LOL!)

Anyone want to join me in this noble effort, huh, loyal Predec2 readers?  :)

Seriously speaking, though, whenever you update this absolutely wonderful story, I'll be oh so happy to read it, as would 99.9% of your fans, Kim. Consider the other 0.01% a statistical anomaly.

Cheers,

Vin

Author's Response:

Hi, my friend!  I will definitely take that under advisement.:)  I actually would like to at least get these two guys in the same city; then at least the healing can hopefully begin.  Although I fully intend on taking them back to Britin, where all the memories are.  After all, what better place to help bring them back together than where it all began?  And I would enjoy writing more about their past memories together as a family before the breakup.  PLUS - I have some ideas for the girls to do some more scheming to bring them closer together....MUCH closer (hint, hint...).

Thanks again, Vin, for all the kind words; they mean a lot to me and do wonders for my bruised soul.:)

i had to say that i love this story. it's sweet, funny, and so full of love that you can almost feel it coming of the characters on the screen. i hate that someone would bother to write something bad about your wonderful story, but just know that the people who truly matter are those that actually read your work and enjoy it. so my friend, don't let one idiot ruin all the wonderful work you've done.

Author's Response:

You're so sweet to take the time to leave me feedback, my friend, but knowing the type of person you are that doesn't surprise me.:)  Thank you for all your support over the past two years for my stories.  You've been with me practically since Day One and I'm so glad you picked my stories to follow, because not only did I get a wonderful reader as a result, but a great friend as well.  I hope that both will continue for a long, long time to come.  Thank you, Gloria.:)

Perfect! Watching the two girls get (re)-acquainted with their dads and learn more about them and each other - what a hoot - yet so very sweet at the same time! This chapter gave us everything we could want...and then some! I couldn't be more thrilled that Alex is gone - out of the picture more quickly than I expected, but then I always love when you send us  little surprises, especially lovely ones like this! Now, there is nothing but time and distance - and of course the pesky issue of a broken promise and potentially stubborn men short on trust - to keep these soul mates from a reunification to beat all! Please don't make us wait too long - you are the master at cliffhangers!

I am drooling over what will come next, with Brian and Kaylee now able to truly reunite - I feel a need for tissues coming in the next chapter.

I also want to thank you for your encouragement and support. I have recently returned to work on my last unfinished story, after renewed but unexpected interest and reviews - imagine that! It is because I know first hand how vital responses from others can be in keeping me motivated and inspired that I do my best to respond to any chapter/story that moves or touches me in any way! For me, it's what feeds the muse - and I can only guess that this is true for others who put so much of themselves into their work and need to know that it is not in vain.

...any chance we can get more of this story...out of rotation? I really can't wait! (you know I am so bad at that delayed gratification stuff - some things never change - lol) - although there is unfinished business that I am anxious to read about elsewhere as well...such anticipation!

loving life,

Charle

Author's Response:

Hi, Charle - How can I express what YOUR support means to me, too?  You are absolutely correct; I LIVE for positive reinforcement and yes, I am crushed when I get just the opposite.  Perhaps those with tender, easily bruised hearts shouldn't be writers, then.  But I like to think that maybe it translates into a little more emotion in my stories.  Some may not like my style of writing, but it is what it is....

I try hard and I think I do a good job of responding to every review I get, and not just with a 'cookie cutter' response, although I don't begrudge any that DO; I know only too well how time-consuming writing as well as responding to reviews can be.  I have noticed you are so exceptional about always taking the time to provide a thoughtful review not only to me but to others; I can't speak for them, but as for me that means more than you will ever realize, my friend.

As for changing up the story rotation, it's hard to do (sigh) because there are (hopefully at least!) other readers who are anxious for updates on the other stories.  Recently the only exception I've been making is to the two shorter stories I have going right now ("Hunka" and "Framed"), since finishing up those two will free me to catch up quicker on the longer ones such as this one.

But it wouldn't be the FIRST time I went against the norm.:)  If I got enough readers to twist my arm, I might just be convinced to at least write the next chapter where the boys finally see each other again after so long.  It might make up for the less-than-glowing response I received for this chapter as well...

Thank you, Charle, for being such a devoted supporter of my stories and for going the extra mile to write such thoughtful reviews.  You are very kind.:)~Kimberly

Thank you, Susie, for reading and for the comments; you're very kind.:)  I promise to do my best to update quicker next time.  I'm trying hard to get two of my stories wrapped up shortly, so that should help as well.  I definitely see the boys meeting up again in the next chapter at last.  I hope you will continue to enjoy this story - it means a lot to me!  Thank you again for takng the time to review, my friend.:)  I appreciate your thoughtfulness.:)~Kimberly

There I was devouring every word and then - a cliffhanger! What a great chapter! And it was wonderfully long - hopefully the next one will be just as long and hopefully you are almost done writing it. Just kidding. Or not!  I love this story - I'm thinking it might be my favorite of your fics......

Author's Response:

(Sigh...) I know; it was a terrible place to end it, wasn't it?  But if it's any consolation I fully expect Brian to whisk Kaylee back to Chicago for the (hopefully) much-anticipated reunion of the two fathers in the next chapter.  Then it will be Justin's turn to be shocked, because as much as he suspects something is off, I don't think he quite figures it out before Brian shows up with daughter #2 in tow.  Then let the fireworks begin, because Justin won't just fall into his arms.  But for me that's the fun of it until they do!

Thank you for taking the time to comment; your encouragement and kind words mean a lot to me and helps me when I start to question my abilities.  It means more to me than you will ever know, and I am very grateful for that.:)~Kimberly

OMG, you leave it here? HERE? You are so cruel! Oh, nooooooooo!

*runs around the kitchen screaming like a petulant 5 year old*

OK, meltdown over.

Great update and a lovely Thursday surprise - thank you! I loved Kalee meeting Debbie and Emmett. I loved her interaction with Brian. I just knew, KNEW he'd be the one to discover the truth - our Brian is no dumb cookie. Not that Justin is dumb, not at all - he's just more trusting, the poor thing.

I loved Katie's silent war with Alex. Her pretending to be sick was genius! When I tried to pull something like that on my mother once I got caught and was punished, so I never tried anything like that ever again. So on the one hand - kudos, Katie! On the other hand - bad, Katie; lying is a very, very bad thing.

I just can't wait for the grand reunion! I suspect it will be epic.

Please, pretty please update soon.

Cheers,

Vin

Author's Response:

Hi, my friend!  Thank you for the encouragement; I really needed that.:)  Yes, I hated to leave it there, but after 14,000 words I had to end it somewhere.  I'll do my best to get it updated quicker this time.  Katie always WAS the most conniving and creative of the two sisters, I think, so it was only fitting that she be the one to divest them of that pest Alex!  I fully expect for the boys to finally see each other again in the next chapter.  I hope you and some of the other readers will continue to enjoy it and will let me know that you do.  It means a lot to me.  Thank you for reading and taking the time to leave feedback for me.

I dont care how you write this story. it just dosen't fit well that justin gave up one of his daughter’s, sorry thats just me and my comment

Author's Response:

Mmmm....are you by chance the same "anonymous" one as before who called this story mindless?  If so, why are you still reading it?  And why take the time to tear down someone's story when you could be reading some other one that you actually DO like?  You're certainly entitled to your opinion - that's what makes the world go round.  I'm sorry if I'm unable to just let comments such as yours roll off my back like most writers, but I enjoy reading stories as well as writing them, and I choose to take the high road when I don't like a story and not comment at all on it rather than be hurtful to  others.

After spending HOURS writing this ONE chapter, I really appreciate the encouragement!  Please don't bother reading any more of my 'mindless drivel' if you don't care for it and expend your energy on ones that you do like, and maybe have the courage next time to REGISTER as a user rather than hiding behind the veil of anonymity.
