As I was searching for stories to read while waiting for updates on current stories, I came across this one and the sequel.  Really enjoyed it so much.  Good story and great writing.  I will start reading the sequel next.  I am sure I will enjoy it, also.

Author's Response:

Hello, Marilynne!  Yes, the story volume does seem to ebb and flow at times, doesn't it?  Well, I'm very happy that you chose this story to read in the meantime. :)  I have really grown to love Fin and Tony's characters, both in this original and the sequel, so I'm delighted that you enjoyed it. Thank you for letting me know, and also I'd like to thank you for taking the time to leave so much feedback for many of our writers on here. Please know that it is deeply appreciated.  I do hope you enjoy "My Heart's Desire" as well. I will probably write a follow-up story to that one in the future sometime as well. :)  Thanks again for all the support!!  ~Kim

I have so enjoyed the journey you have taken us on, the more I read the more I realize the story really is a special "present" to the readers. I adore Fin/Tony and what their characters have added, also a big thank you for staying true to Brian & Justin and not straying from the characters we all fell in love with!! Your writing style is so creative, I have laughed and cried many times then I can count!  I can't wait to start the sequel!  Candy

P.S. Your story is what pushed me to register on MW so I could let you know how much I enjoyed your writing!

Author's Response:

Hi, Candy! First of all, welcome to Midnight Whispers!  it sounds like you've been reading for some time, but the fact that you registered simply so you can leave me a review really made my day! I'm so happy that you enjoyed that story. I, too, really adore Fin and Tony's characters as well, and you will find in the sequel that they play a very dominant part, along with Brian and Justin.  I came to love those characters so much that it seemed like they had been there the entire time. The sequel is even longer than the first story, and I do intend to write a third story at some point where this sequel left off.   But just knowing how much you enjoyed the story really means a lot to me and is very motivating as a writer, so I thank you for not only registering, but taking the time to leave me a review. I'm honored that my story was the first one you chose to leave a comment for.  Thanks again for your support! I hope you continue to enjoy some more of my stories.  a86; ~Kim

Another masterpiece. I loved the twist to the original plot, it's amazing how you made it so interesting, Kim. Looking forward to read the sequel, loved the universe you created here. Thanks for sharing:)

Author's Response:

Thank you for reading, and for your kind comments, Nadine!  I hope you enjoy the sequel as well.  It turned out even longer than the original!  I did grow to love Tony and Fin's characters in this 'verse, and I may just revisit it again in the future. Thank you for the feedback! And thanks for being one of our writers!  It is greatly appreciated.  ~Kim

The first time I read this story, I am not finished until the end. It happens to me when the story long, I'm always deter new short stories. Now as I enjoy their love and understanding.I can see that below a label "violence", I'm afraid of what can happen to any of them, when the race for governor has heated up.Otherwise I'm going to finish reading this because a wedding going on.Thank you!

Author's Response:

Hi, Orchida!  I hope you won't be frightened off by the 'violence' part.  It is mild, and is only a brief interlude in the story, so I don't think you will be too upset over it (hopefully).  Let's just say that it's a way to deepen the bond between father and son - and the friendship between Tony and Justin.  I know it's a long story, but I do hope you decide to read through to the end.  Thank you for reading up to this point, for the comments, and for the support. I do appreciate that. ~Kim

Reviewer: dani (Anonymous) · Date: December 03, 2014 01:28 PM · On: A REAL Family: Telling Brian

Okay, I really hope I won't offend anyone or that this will be considered a flame, because I really don't want to do that.

I am just damn angry because in my opinion, Brian took this way too well and calmly. Had it been me, I would have ripped Justin a new one, no matter what his intentions were.

He had NO right to keep something so monumental from Brian, talk to his family first instead of letting Brian decide on any course of action. It should have been Brian's decision whether he wants to contact these family members he didn't know he had, NOT Justin's!

And then to just have the grandparents come to visit - when exactly was Justin going to tell Brian about that, who they are and why they're there? After they had shown up and just blindside Brian with "Surprise, these are your real grandparents and they want to see you and your son"?

So I don't really agree with the other reviewers that just because Brian has come to accept he is loved, he would not be utterly furious with Justin.

All that said, it's a great idea to give Brian a new family who actually cares about him. I'll keep going through the rest of the chapters to see how it pans out.

Author's Response:

Hi, Dani - first of all, I thank you for reading what you have so far, and for the comments. And while I am the first to admit I could stand to grow a thicker skin where criticism is concerned (especially after writing such a long story as this one), I do not consider what you said flaming, and I respect your viewpoint.  I don't know if you are going to continue reading, but if you do I think you will find that Fin and his son will not be bonding quite so instantly, nor will Brian be as accepting of Fin as Kathy and Sean were toward him. I like to think that Brian grew emotionally by the end of the show, and could understand why Justin might want to make sure his hunch is correct before he sprung the news on him. Whether it was right for Justin to go about it the way he did is, as you have proven, open to opinion, but we are all human, and I like to think Brian would have at least understood why he did what he did.

But as I said, varied viewpoints are what makes the world go around, and I respect your right to feel the way you do.:)  Thank you again for the comments.  ~Kim

Alrighty, I'm beginning the journey of reading this story and its sequel. I'm interested in what the piece of paper Justin found has on it. Onto chapter 2 I go! :)

Author's Response:

Hi, Nancy!  Well, you are one brave lady to be doing this while trying to tackle your own WIP stories, but I'm delighted to know that you will be reading it.  I really enjoyed writing this story, and the two other main characters you will be meeting soon have been very near and dear to my heart, so much so that I feel like they have been characters all along.  I do hope that you enjoy it!  BTW - I noticed that you have started posting your new story - that's great!  Can't wait to read it!  Thanks again for checking this one out and for the feedback.:)  *Hugs*  ~Kim

What a wonderful story. I loved all the family drama. The whole idea that Brian did have a family just waiting for him is such a comforting idea.

I am a little worried about Tony, he seems to be a bit too needy and always wanting more more more. He never took the time to really enjoy the happiness he found when Fin agreed to acknowledge their relationship, right away he starts yearning for marriage. Give poor Fin a little breathing room.

I am glad that I can now begin the sequel. Thank you so much for sharing your gift, you sure know how to tap away on a keyboard and produce magic.
Lori

Author's Response:

Hi, Lori!  What lovely comments; thank you so much!  This story will always be special to me.:)  And I do hope you enjoy the sequel; it's a combination of sweetness at the beginning for the boys, followed by some definite angst. But the love these two pairs of partners feel for each other will remain intact.  I have a LOT to go over in the sequel, so it's shaping up to be a LONG one!  Thank you for all your support, Sweetheart.  *Hugs*  ~Kim

Perfect end to a wonderful story.  I still say Emmett has horrible timing, but he knows how to throw a wedding and reception party!

Good to see Brian and Fin taking baby steps.  Brian deserves to have a father's love.  And Fin is really trying.  I think Brian finally sees that ;o)

Now on to the sequel.  Looking forward to more of Brian/Justin/Fin/Tony and whoever else you throw into the mix.  I'm sure it's gonna be an interesting journey ;o)

Author's Response:

Ahh...at last you made it!  Thank you for all the comments!  Now get ready for a roller coaster ride, at least after the boys come home from the honeymoon...and I have lots of pictures of that.:)  Thanks again, my friend!  Hope you enjoy the intrigue coming up.  I'll be getting it updated, BTW, very soon as soon as I'm done with Tricky wreaking his havoc on Brian - ha!  *Hugs*  ~Kim

Loved this!

The dance with the moms (and I agree, as annoying as she is, Debbie has always been Brian's mom) was so touching, as was the conversation Fin had with Kathy.  I'm glad they were able to clear the air about everything.

I do wish Justin had taken his opportunity while he had a lethal piece of cake in his hand.  That would have been funny as hell, even though I'm sure Brian would have "punished" him later.  Which would have been nice to read about as well!

The toasts were great, and Daphne was one of a kind as usual.  Just love her!

The only problem I had was with Emmett's timing LOL  It really was bad in this situation!

Another great chapter.

Author's Response:

Hi, Nita!  You're so good to me with all your reviews and thoughtful comments; thank you for that!  I'm so pleased that you're enjoying the story - you're about done.:)  Thanks again - hope you like the sequel, my friend!  *Hugs*  ~Kim

Reviewer: buttercup32409 (Signed) · Date: April 07, 2012 09:33 PM · On: The Wedding Reception - Part One

Finally Emmett got to see a side of Brian that all of us had seen and loved all along.  It was obvious from the very beginning how much he loved Justin!

The wedding reception is fabulous!  Loving everything about it from their first dance (At Last indeed!), to Chanda Leer (Go Darren!) to the dance between Fin and Tony.

And you ended this chapter perfectly with Justin finally getting through to Stubborn, Jr. and getting him to agree (as much as Brian Kinney ever agrees) to stop being such a prick when it came to Fin and Tony.   I don't think he's going to be doing cartwheels for them anytime soon, but at least it's a start.

Author's Response:

Hi, my friend!  I always thought Emmett would be the perfect wedding party planner - and I thought he made a 'kick-ass' business partner for Justin in the wedding cake business in "Stirring Up Trouble" for the same reason.:)  I'm delighted that you enjoyed their reception, and I thought Chanda Leer was an appropriate addition to it.  Poor Tony is still very wistful about wanting what Justin wants, and that will come up again in the sequel.  What happens, though, will be up to my plot bunny.  I have an idea where I want to take it, but I suspect it will take me a while to get there.:)

Like your name for Brian, BTW ("Stubborn, Jr.") - LOL!  Perfect title for him.  I figured a true father of Brian's would have a lot of traits in common with his son.  And as I mentioned before, I don't think it's realistic to except father and son to get all lovey-dovey all of a sudden, but I DO see them growing closer as time goes on and Brian determines he can, indeed, trust his father to treat him like a true son unlike Jack.

Thanks again for all your comments, Nita!  And hang in there, my friend; things WILL get better.:)  *Hugs*  ~Kim

Reviewer: buttercup32409 (Signed) · Date: April 07, 2012 08:33 AM · On: Prelude to the Reception

Holy crap!  I love that tent!  I want Emmett to plan a party for ME! LOL

Love the way you write Sean and Kathy.  Such a wonderful couple.

Great Brian/Justin/Jennifer moment.  So glad Jennifer has always been so supportive of Justin, and the line about Brian having a mother is 100% correct.  Debbie gets on my nerves sometimes, but she has been a mom to him for most of his life.  Thank God she was since Joanie was such a bitch.

But my heart still goes out to Tony.  He's just gonna have to sit Justin down and get some pointers from him on how to tame those big, bad, stubborn as hell O'Connor men.  If anyone can help him it's Justin.

Looking forward to the sequel.  If it has anything to do with politics I'm gonna be in complete heaven, since I can talk Dems vs. Republicans all day long and usually piss off people in the process! LOL  I live in the south and not a lot of people like my opinions! LOL

Author's Response:

I hope you don't mind all the replies, Nita!  I do enjoy all your thoughtful comments - it's almost like living through it again and it brings back some good memories.:)  Tony and Justin will continue to bond and their friendship will continue to deepen here and throughout the sequel.  I loved the dynamics of Brian, Justin, and Jennifer and how Jennifer's and Brian's relationship changed to one of mutual respect by the end of the show.  I still remember that comment about, "Who do you think I am?  Judy Garland?"  LOL!  And Sean and Kathy WILL show up in the next story at some point.:)

As far as the sequel goes, you should enjoy it then, because it involves a lot of political backstabbing and strategy.:)  I do hope you like it!  Fin will find himself, as well as Brian, challenged by the conservative element as well as by some scheming within his own staff.  Thanks again for all the insightful comments, my friend.  ~Kimberly

I'm bawling here!  Such beautiful vows from both men.  If anyone had any doubts about how much Brian loved Justin, or vice verse, those vows would have cleared it up.

And then you threw in the well-timed humor with the bird and the banter, and Debbie.  Perfect!

Loved everything about this chapter.  So glad they finally did it, and I love the picture with the left hands wearing the rings ;o)

Author's Response:

Thanks, Nita!  I was proud of this chapter, too; my father has actually used that bit with the paper bag from time to time to scare off hawks around our house - it makes quite a loud, booming sound.:)  I'm so glad you enjoyed this one.  They'll be a few more photos for the reception, along with some uniquely B & J moments of celebration as only they can do (wink, wink).  Thanks so much for all the comments - you're in the home stretch now.  Then it's onto the honeymoon in the sequel before the boys get entangled into some dirty old politics.  *Hugs*  ~Kim

This was beautiful, especially the Jennifer/Justin scene.  I feel for Justin.  His father needed to get over himself and be there for his son.  Of course he would need a brain and a heart for that, and he lacked both.

It was smart of Fin to get extra security.  With all the nuts out there, you never know what can happen.

I just know everything is going to be perfect!  I just wish we could have actually seen it on the show.

Author's Response:

I'll actually have some photos in the chapter by the time you get to the actual wedding, BTW - I hope you like them.:)  And Justin's father will re-emerge in the sequel, but unfortunately it will NOT be a good way...Thanks so much for reading and commenting, Sweetie - you're heading done the homestretch now.:)

OMG this was WONDERFUL!  So glad Brian is finally opening his heart at least a little bit.

That had to be hard for Sean and Kathy, but like Tony said, the whole business of coming out is complicated (at least for most of us). Fin was just trying to fit in back then, and I think on some level he really did love Lydia and had imagined maybe having a future of some kind with her.

You had me laughing at the ice cream comment.  I can only imagine Jennifer's face when Brian told Fin that!  Poor Jennifer, they always did love to tease her!

And a Daphne/Justin moment!  I love those ;o)

Just a great chapter in every way.

Author's Response:

LOL!  Well, you know Brian - he tends to speak sometimes before he thinks first - ha!  I think while Jennifer's used to it, not sure about the rest of their company.:)  Thanks again for the lovely comments, my friend.:)

As always, I loved the banter between Brian and Justin.  Also loved the sarcastic introduction by Brian.  You've gotta love him for that! LOL

Ummm Michael, the reason they didn't tell you was because it wasn't any of your business!  I've said it before and I'll say it again, I CAN'T STAND THAT LITTLE WEASEL!!!!

Whew! Got that out of my system LOL

On to the next chapter!

Author's Response:

Thanks, Nita - I tried to keep them in character as much as I could and I always found the boys' witty comebacks a lot of fun.:)  As far as Michael goes - I tried not to make him TOO whiny and annoying in the story, since he was Brian's best friend.  But I totally agree - he was definitely NOT my favorite character on the show.  He finally developed a little bit of a backbone to be his own person toward the end of the show, but I will still never like his character.  If it's any consolation, I really don't see him playing a huge role in the sequel, although he will pop up from time to time; I think he would have to due to his place in Brian's life.

Anyway, thanks so much for all the comments!  And take care of yourself - I'll be thinking about you.:)  *Hugs*  ~Kim

OMG the "I am, aren't I" from both of them had me laughing so hard!  Poor Tony and Justin!

And then you had me laughing even harder with the banter from our two favorite men.  I kept waiting for Justin to say something along the lines of, "Well if you bottomed more often, you wouldn't be so sore!"  LOL

I felt sorry for Fin toward the end.  I honestly still can't fathom why it's anyone's business what we do in our bedrooms.  People really need to get a life!

Another wonderful chapter.  Gonna try to finish this one over the weekend, and hopefully start the sequel next week.  I'm loving it more and more!

Loving this story!

So glad Fin finally found a way in.  My heart goes out to Brian.  He's been hurt so much, so it's completely understandable that he's wary of being hurt once again.

Leave it to the blonds!  They usually get what they want in the end.  And yes, I'm speaking from personal experience on that one! LOL

Author's Response:

Hi, Sweetie!  So glad to see you reading the next chapter!  Maybe I should dye my hair blond - LOL!  Yes, I imagine Brian would be hesitant to become involved with the father he didn't even know, but he will eventually warm up to Fin.  Thanks again for all the feedback - Hugs!  ~Kimberly

Oh God.  Nobody ever said Jennifer was the sharpest knife in the drawer!  After all, she did marry Craig Taylor!  And then she was dumb enough to tell Brian to stay away from Justin when he was the one person he needed!

I swear, sometimes when I'm reading scenes between Fin and Tony, I have to re-read the names to make sure it's not Brian and Justin! LOL  I'm beginning to wonder if Justin and Tony aren't related as well!  Are you sure Craig was his father? LOL  Oh that would be a stretch even for you!

Anyway, another great chapter.  Fin didn't endear himself to his son by interrupting the sex, but Brian will get over it.  I have a feeling this little conversation might get interesting ;o)

Oh, and what's up with the Italian furniture?  Is there a gene for that or something? LOL

So glad Brian has Justin.  This whole situation has to be killing him inside.  A good roll in the old loft bed will cure what ails him though ;o)

And you ended it on yet another "oh shit" moment.  They'd better pray Debbie isn't working.  She'd pounce on them so fast they'd think the media were nothing! LOL

So much pain right now.  Justin hurting for Brian and blaming himself for setting the whole thing in motion, Brian happy to finally know the truth, but hurting because of the mistake Fin made at the beginning of it all, Tony worried about Fin and what the revelation and announcement will mean for his career, and Fin being brave enough to finally come out to the world, while hurting because of Brian's hesitancy to get to give him a chance.

You captured it all perfectly in this chapter.  I could feel all of it.

I honestly don't get what the big deal is when it concerns someone's sexuality. We love who we love, and we hope they love us back just as much.  It's as simple as that, or it should be.  Everything else is bullshit and total nonsense!

Great job, yet again!

Author's Response:

Hi, Dear!  Yes, there are a lot of emotions generated from this story - so many threads that are woven together.  Eventually things will smooth over somewhat, but you will discover in the sequel that Fin's run for governor will unfortunately once more bring the bigots to the surface.  It's true - what others do shouldn't bother us as long as they are happy with their love.

Thank you again for all the encouragment - I am very appreciative.:)  *Hugs*  ~Kim

Reviewer: buttercup32409 (Signed) · Date: April 02, 2012 05:37 AM · On: Stubborn Is As Stubborn Does

Just as I feared.  I know they'll eventually come around, but it was painful to read.  Brian had every right to feel that way.  I know justin was disappointed, but I would have been more surprised, and downright worried, if Brian hadn't acted that way after everything he's been through in his life.  It was just one more disappointment.  And then the abrupt change in the senator's attitude would probably have made anyone in Brian's shoes suspicious.

Now, for Lindsay.  Can't stand her.  Never will like her.  And I have to wonder what business is it of hers, and how can she of all people pass judgement?  Wasn't she the one who made sure Brian knew about the magazine article on Justin, knowing full well he'd push Justin away again?  Wasn't she the one who after knowing the man's partner was leaving, left herself and took his son to Canada?  So who is she to say anything about how anyone treats Brian?

Just had to say that because dispite this being the only lesbian couple on the show, I just simply can't stomach them!

Another great chapter.  I'll be back in a bit to read more after I eat a little dinner.  Thanks for sharing your talent with us.  It's simply amazing.

Author's Response:

Hi, Nita!  Now you know you're not allowed to have a dinner break - LOL!  Yes, as far as Brian goes, it will take some time for him to warm up to Fin.  And I agree - it wouldn't have been realistic any other way.  I actually am not fond of Lindsay, either - every time I come to her scenes with Mel on my DVDs, I normally promptly use the fast-forward feature - ha!  At least she is not featured too prominently in this story but mainly when the plot requires it if that helps to stomach her a little better.:)

Anyway, thanks again for all the comments and for reading!  I really appreciate that.:)  *Hugs*  ~Kim

OMG I LOVED that movie!  Don Knotts was the bomb, and we lost a true genius when he died.

I don't blame Justin.  3:30 is way too early to get up, and since it was a grandfather/grandson/great-grandson trip, he didn't need to get out of his comfortable bed.  That whole scene with Brian struggling to wake up while Gus ran circles through the house was too cute and funny for words!

Tony is a sneaky one.  Reminds me of another blond who will be as sneaky as he needs to be in order to reach his goals.  Wonder who I could be talking about? LOL

LOL Brian and a worm!  I'm not even gonna comment on that.  My gutter mind could take things in a very wrong direction! LOL  That whole fishing scene was a good one.  Good for Gus!

Loving Sean and Kathy more and more.  So glad they've welcomed Brian with open arms.  And the love between Brian and Justin just gets stronger and stronger.

And then you end the chapter on an "oh shit" note! LOL  I have a feeling this is about to turn south in a hurry.  Yep, this is going to go oh so wrong when those two stubborn men start to butt heads.  Fin is about to meet his match, and I'm sure Brian is about to meet his as well.

Author's Response:

Ahh...someone ELSE who remembers Mr. Limpet - ha!  I did love Don Knotts and his comedy - he was one of a kind.:)  I'm glad you enjoyed the little fishing trip.  Sean and Kathy will be making another appearance later in this story and they are about to show up again in the sequel as well.

Father and son will continue their stubbornness but eventually they will arrive at a place of understanding at least.  I'm not sure if they will ever be as close as a traditional father/son, but they will slowly bond closer together.  Thanks again for all the wonderful comments, Sweetie; I'm so glad you're enjoying this story!  *Big Hug*  ~Kim

WOW!  I was a little worried there for a minute that Tony was going to walk away before Stubborn, Sr. had a chance to finally say what he was feeling.  What is it about the O'Connor men anyway?  I mean, geeeeesh!  Talk about a father/son resemblance that has nothing to do with looks!

Glad he finally came around and won Tony back.  And now he's ready to finally meet Brian.  Oh boy, I can only imagine what that's going to be like when Stubborn, Sr. and Stubborn, Jr. meet up.  I hope Justin and Tony have both paid all the premiums on their partner's life insurance.  Something tells me they might need to make a claim soon! LOL

Another great chapter.

Author's Response:

You have me wanting to put my arms around Brian and give him a hug.  I can't even imagine what he must be going through.  To think he was the son of the Kinney's, then to get the good news that (thank God) he wasn't related to them at all, only to then learn that his mother is dead, his father doesn't want to meet him because he's ashamed of being gay, and now to meet his two wonderful grandparents.  WOW!  What a roller coaster you've put the poor man on! LOL

I love Sean and Kathy.  and I have a feeling they're going to spoil Gus rotten. Brian too if he'll let them.  It's exactly what he needs right now.

I see Fin is coming to his senses and realizing (just like his son did about Justin) that he cannot live without Tony.  A few days with no sex and no contact with his soulmate whipped him right into shape and got him ready to talk.  Yep!  It will work almost every single time! LOL

Another great chapter.  One of these days I might just finish this story!  And I see you've already started a sequel, so I can move right on to it ;o)  Love it!

Ok, I'm crying here. First of all, it's about damned time Fin woke up and smelled the coffee, hot cocoa, or whatever the hell he was smelling. He'd better get his act together because now that Brian knows the truth about why he refused to go see him, it's going to be that much harder to convince Brian his feelings are for real. Good luck, Fin! Brian can be just as stubborn as you can.

The conversation between Brian and Justin was heartbreaking. Brian wanted to cry so badly, but as usual he held it in, and Justin was determined to be strong for his man. Beautiful!

Yay I have completed reading another of you fabulous stories!! I loved it 100% I love the images that you conjure up and how realistic your character descriptions seem to be. When I read your stories I can actually see characters speaking and can visualise scenes unfolding - all thanks to your talent with words. I apologise for reading so many of your stories once they are finished - I am not able to offer you encouragement as they are being written and for that I am sorry. Incidentally my youngest son is called Finn so I am glad the character turned out to be a good guy. I am going to start reading the story sequel now so I hope he stays that way!!! Thank you, love Kate xxx

Author's Response:

Aww...thank you for those very lovely words, Kate!  They mean more than you know, my dear.:)  I'm so glad you can see the story unfolding in your mind; that is one of the things I strive to do when I write them, so that makes me very happy to hear you say that.

Oh, and please don't apologize about wanting to read only completed fics - I can certainly understand your wanting to wait until they are finished.  I hate throwing my heart - and time - into a story only to discover that either it never was finished or hasn't been updated in forever.  That drives me crazy! Instead I am actually very thankful that you took the time to leave feedback after you read it; it seems that too often those that prefer to wait and then read it afterward don't always think to leave their thoughts, so I am very appreciate that you did that.:)

I'm honored, also, that you would start on "Heart's Desire" before it's done.  I can see that story as being quite a long one, due in large part to all the areas I want to cover in it.  And yes, I CAN assure you that Fin will, indeed, remain a good guy.  That was my intention from the start.:)  So thank you for having faith in me to see it through to the end; it WILL be updated regularly and finished in time, just like my other stories always have been.:)

Thank you again for all your support of my stories!  *Hugs*  ~Kimberly

Just downgraded my opinion of the current Fin attitude from jackass to asshole. Oh he's going to regret his actions. I'm sure of it.

You go, Tony! A few years too late in my opinion, but at least you finally stood up to him and let him know he can't get away with treating you like that. Maybe it was the catalyst for waking the idiot up! I can't stand people who hide who they are. I for one fought too damned hard to be comfortable with myself. If someone can't handle who I am, then they don't need to be around me.

Getting off my soapbox now.

I'm loving Sean and Kathy more and more. They are going to absolutely love Brian and Gus! And Brian and Gus are going to love them.

Brian knows Justin so well. Once again you had the love shining through beautifully. If he keeps “punishing” Justin like that, the man is never going to do anything right again, just so he can take the punishment for it! LOL

Another wonderful chapter!

Author's Response:

Ha! Don't worry - I don't blame you about Fin.  But he will slowly be coming around, and I think you'll eventually warm up to him (I think....LOL!).  Sean and Kathy will be interspersed in the story off and on, and will show up eventually in the sequel, too.  I think it's important for Brian to have some support from them.  Thanks again for following the story and for all the wonderful comments, Nita.:)  *Hugs*

Ok, I know you said in an earlier reply to one of my reviews that you loved his father, but right now I've got to tell you that the only thing I see in him is total jackass. If I'd been Tony I probably would have walked a long time ago.

Poor Justin. It had to break his heart to leave things like that. He wants this so much for Brian, and for his father (who is so much like Brian) to decide his career is more important is just wrong.

While I hated the chapter for those reasons, it was a very well written one. I'm sure you're going to knock some sense into Fin eventually, but right now I'm about ready to knock something myself! LOL

Author's Response:

Love the thoughtful replies to each chapter - thank you for that!  Yes, Fin is winding up being just as stubborn as another man we know!  But his partner is about to knock some sense into Fin himself without Justin's help, don't worry.  The man is still coming to grips with what has happened, but his love for his partner is going to sway him quite a bit very shortly...

Well I didn't see THAT coming!  So he's gay too?  WOW!

I have a feeling when Tony and Justin tag-team him, he's not going to have much of a choice but to meet Brian! LOL

Author's Response:

Yep!  You're onto me; and you're right - you will find eventually that Tony and Justin will become good friends - not sure if it's because they have so much in common with two stubborn men, or if they have to out of necessity!  LOL!  Thanks again for taking the time to comment!  *Hugs*  ~Kimberly

Yet another adorable scene between the two of them. The love just continues to shine through!

The guy at the state house obviously does NOT know Justin Taylor. If he was persistent enough to stalk Brian until he wore him down, he can certainly handle Brian's father. Same genes, so he just has to follow the same route. Go Justin! Got get your man's dad! Ok, that sounded a little wrong, but you get the idea! LOL

Author's Response:

Ha!  Love the comments you're writing!  I'm so glad you're reading this story, my dear.:)  That's okay - know what you mean; and don't worry, he's not done yet.:)

So glad that they are willing to accept Justin and Brian as a couple.

And don't worry about me sticking with the story.  It might take me a couple of days, but I'm in it to the end ;o)

Loving this story!

Author's Response:

Thanks, Sweetie!  I really appreciate all the support and encouragement!  I do hope you enjoy it.  I have some photos to go with the story, but they don't come up until almost the end. Thanks again for all the feedback.  *Hugs*

Ok, I first have to say those two are sickenly sweet when they're together! LOL

Poor Brian.  He really needed a mother.  I know he had Deb, but let's face it, she is always quick to blame him for anything that goes wrong when it's usually her precious son's fault.  I love her, but she does have that tendency.

I certainly hope his grandparents will accept him and Justin.  You've gotta love Sunshine for doing this ;o)

Author's Response:

Hi, Nita!  Thanks for the feedback.  Hope you can overlook the lovey-dovey stuff - ha! But I wanted to show both of them as supportive of each other.:)  Brian's new-found family will be getting to know him better, and it will take some convincing from several people for his father to acknowledge him.  But I hope you will stick with it and like the direction it's taking.  Thanks again for taking the time to comment - I appreciate that.:)

Reviewer: buttercup32409 (Signed) · Date: February 11, 2012 02:48 AM · On: Trust and Hope

OMG I hope they find his real parents and that they're willing to have a relationship with him.  It would be wonderful for Brian to have them in his life if they are good people.

I so adore Emmett!  He is so much fun!  Just what Justin needs while waiting for such big news.  And I'd choose the vanilla cake, only without the coconut frosting! LOL

That last line is soooo true!  Anyone would be blessed to have Brian Kinney in their life.  His heart is as big as the ocean.  He just had to learn to trust, and to have someone love him for who he is and not what he can do for them (unfortunately the entire 'family' is guilty of that! Except for Justin of course)

Author's Response:

Hi, Sweetie!  I see you've figured out that BRIAN is the adopted one; I never DID think he looked like that idiot of a father.  I hope you like Brian's real father; I have become very fond of him to the point where he seems like one of the original characters.  Hope you enjoy the rest of the story!  Thanks for reading and taking the time to comment; I really appreciate that.  *Hugs*  Kim

Well now you're just confusing me.  I thought Jerky Jack and Saint Joan had given a child up for adoption.  But from the sounds of this they may have adopted Brian?  Huh?  Either way, I trust you.  Hopefully it will end up being a happy discovery for Brian.

Justin, Justin, Justin... In the future if you plan to keep something from Brian and you want Jennifer to cover for you....LET JENNIFER IN ON THE PLAN! LOL

Can't wait for the talk in the park.  This might get interesting.

Another great chapter.  Are you capable of writing anything BUT great?

Reviewer: buttercup32409 (Signed) · Date: February 11, 2012 01:36 AM · On: Withholding and Revealing Information

Oh boy, a suspicious and concerned Brian is never good when you're trying to keep something from him.  Totally loved the NPH reference though.  I love him and his family!  Those twins are adorable!

Anyway, I'm glad Carl was there for Justin.  Ever since he's learned that not all of us in the gay and lesbian world are mindless jerks, he's become a true fathe figure to most of the boys.  I'll never forget the scenes between him and Emmitt after the bombing.  Classic!

And that last line (actually the last word) makes me even more sure I've got this right.  Yep!  Brian's going to be totally floored ;o)

THANK GOD!  For some reason I started singing 'Ding Dong the Wicked Witch is Dead!" LOL  Sorry but I can't find myself shedding a single tear for the bitch.

Can't believe Justin and Michael are working together to clean out the house.  Ok, I know they did the comic book together, but that was only because it served Michael's purposes.  If I were Justin I'd walk cautiously and not trust him at all.  In case you haven't noticed and I haven't told you lately, I hate Michael Novotny-Bruckner! LOL

Wow!  Can't wait to find out what that paper was, although I have an idea.  I hope I'm right and that it works out.  it would be great for Brian, although I'm not sure Michael would like it too much.  Hell, that would be even better!  On to the next chapter!

Just finished this wonderful story.  Even when I am feeling a little out of sorts I read your stories and feel so much better.  You take me to a better place and I am enthralled for that special time.  I just love Fin and Tony--Tony so much like Justin and Fin so much like Brian.  You did a good job matching these four up.  Now I am going to read Operation Birthday.  It looks like I would really love that one as I am a big b-day party thrower.  Your banner looks very inviting so that's next before I get into more Tony and Fin.  I took a writing class a few years ago to no avail.  I just wish I could write as you do.   Work now, read tonight.  I'll let you know later.

Author's Response:

Hi, Sweetie! Thank you for reading so many of my stories, and for the wonderful comments!  I'm not sure what it is about Fin and Tony, but I have really become fond of them.  This story just seemed to almost write itself at times.  The sequel, "My Heart's Desire," is becoming much more involved actually than the first one; I think because they are so many different threads running through it.  I do hope you enjoy that one as well...I'm not sure if you want to wait until it's finished or not - I know some readers prefer that.  It DOES promise to be a long one before I've written about everything that I want to.:)

I hope you like the birthday story; be warned, it's probably way over the top for Brian, but I did enjoy writing it, though.:)  Sappily romantic.:)  Anyway, thank you again for all you wonderful comments; it means a lot to me that you're taking the time to leave your thoughts.  *Big* hug. ~Kimberly

Thank you, Lin-Anne!  I'm thrilled that you like this one!  I really like Fin and Tony's characters; I have become very fond of them, almost like they were characters on the show:)  There will be photos later in the story for their wedding, BTW - hope you like them.:)  Thank you again for the wonderful comments - I'm so delighted that you're enjoying the story!:)  *Hugs*

Now I know how Hearts came about.  This was a lovely story  gb Justin.  I have been reading non-stop for a while with occasional snacks. ha ha!!  I have my house work done-bills caught up and it's cold outside-so thought I'd build a fire in my fire place and read.  Good relaxation to take yourself away from this world and visit with the boys.  I must reiterate what an exceptional writer your are.  Guess I should correct myself "author".  What you do is much more than just writing.  This story is so good, I find myself so immersed I forget where I am and what time it is.  I guess I'm having a Kim marathon.  I will probably read a few more before I stop.  It's good we are connected by name-even if it's spelled differently. ta ta for now!

Author's Response:

Hi, Kym!  Yes, it must have been fate for us to share the same name.:)  I like the sound of that - a "Kim marathon" - ha!  I know what you mean about the weather; I live in Southern Ohio and it's been gloomy and raining all day long - yuck!  But the highs are in the 50's here so it could be worse, although this time of year I would almost prefer it snow rather than rain.:)

Thanks for your kind words about this story.  This was another story that resonated with me and kind of wrote itself.  By the time I got done with it, I felt like Tony and Fin had been regular cast members on the show - ha!  I have really become fond of these two characters and I love to compare the similarities between father and son and their lovers/husbands.  I have a sneaking suspicion that "Heart's Desire" will run on and on for a good while; there are just so many plot points I want to cover in there it's almost mind-boggling!

I can't thank you enough for reading so many of my stories, Kym.  I hope you will continue to enjoy them for a long time to come because I still love these two characters even after writing about them for two years now and have a lot of new story ideas floating around in my head.:)  Thanks again, my friend.  And don't forget to take regular bathroom breaks while you're reading, too - LOL!:)

Author's Response:

You're so kind, Cheryl!  And I'm always so delighted to get a review, especially on one of my older "babies!"  I'm so glad you liked it; I have grown quite fond of Fin and Tony, who will be featured prominently in the sequel (along with the boys, of course.).  Thanks for taking the time to let me know you enjoyed it.:)

Author's Response:

Thank you so much for the review, Val - what a mood lifter!:)  I'm so glad you liked it - Fin and Tony have become two of my favorite characters, also.:)  I am definitely planning on starting the sequel soon - I just have to wrap up "She's Your Daughter" and "I Don't," both of which I see having one more chapter of each.  As soon as I get those done in the next week, I will be starting on the sequel, which will detail Fin's run for Governor, his deepening relationship with Tony and his ever-changing relationship with his son.  And don't forget, I still have a honeymoon to plan for the boys - ha!  I'm so glad you liked this one - it means a great deal to me.  And thanks for taking the time to leave a review for me - that means more to me than you know.:)

Hi, Val!  I'm so delighted you've decided to give this a try!  This was one of my favorite stories to write - the characters of Fin and Tony just seemed to almost write themselves by the time I got done.:)  I always thought Brian had to have better parents than what he got stuck with it - LOL!  Hope you continue reading it and let me know what you think - I will be starting on the sequel soon, so you should get it read right at about the right time.....Thanks so much for giving it a try and especially leaving your thoughts - I really appreciate that!:)

Author's Response:

Oh, Lois - how very kind of you - I am so delighted you enjoyed this story - thank you so much!  This was one of my favorite stories to write and I really grew fond of Fin and Tony especially; after I got done I almost felt like they were regular characters from the show - LOL!  I, too, am so obsessed with these two - I discovered them after the show ended and I just love to write about them!  I am trying to finish up a couple of my current WIPs before I start on the sequel, but rest assured - there WILL definitely be one.  I have to send these boys on their honeymoon and get Fin through his campaign.  I have several plot ideas running through my head and hope to incorporate those into it, so please hold on just a little longer and I'll have at the least the first chapter up soon.  I anticipate this will be another long one so I hope you'll be along for the entire ride.  Thanks again for reading this story and especially leaving the review - you don't know how much I treasure those.:)

Claire is older than Brian..... I was just curious about what the back story was for the actual adoption... you explained why Lydia and Finn acted the way they did....but....not Jack and Joan... I think it would be a good idea to explain in the sequel.... Thanks...

Author's Response:

Thanks for letting me know!  That will make the explanation more plausible, I think - now all I have to do is get her to be civil to her brother! LOL!

Reviewer: BluvsJ (Anonymous) · Date: February 14, 2011 03:08 AM · On: The Next Step of Their Journey

I really loved this fic.... especially  the addition of Brian's "real family"...Sean, Kathy...Fin and Tony ...  I can't wait to read the sequel and see where they all go from here..... I have to ask you a question that was never really explained.... why did Jack and Joanie adopt Brian in the first place???  they never really wanted him and they already had Claire... I am curious as to what their motive could have been.... Thanks....

Author's Response:

Thank you for all the reviews, my friend!  I may have to explore that issue in the sequel about why they adopted; I can't remember if Claire is younger or older, can you?  If she is older, it would make more sense, because I could see Jack Kinney wanting a boy to carry on his name, and maybe the "Ice Queen" being unable to have any more children.  Being Catholic they would have been encouraged to have more than one child and with Joan being so "religious," I could maybe see that happening to keep up their image.  There were a lot of readers that asked that same question, and if Claire is older than Brian, she may be able to provide some answers for him.  I should be starting on the sequel as soon as I can at least wrap up one of my open stories - looks like maybe "I Don't" might be getting close.  Not sure about "She's Your Daughter" or "Double Jeopardy," but those I see going longer than "I Don't."  I hope when I do, though, that you'll be along for the ride.  Thanks again for all taking the time to leave reviews for me - it is greatly appreciated!
