Once I was promised absolution There’s only one solution for my sins You gotta face your ghosts and know With no illusions That only one of you is going home again ~~~~~~~~ I stare straight ahead, hazel eyes unblinking as I scan the horizon. The group isn’t awake yet and I know I shouldn’t be either. Yet ever since we left town I haven’t been able to sleep, or eat or…do anything really bar breathe. I don’t know why. Alright, so maybe I do know the reason but I can’t say it out loud. If Ben found out I not only cared about his son, but wanted in his pants too, he’d more than likely attack me. “Brian?” I turn about slightly to see Michael, “Hey Mikey, where’s Ben?” An annoyed look passes over his face before it’s gone, “He’s asleep, what’s wrong Bri?” he whispers, wrapping his arms around me. I stiffen slightly, right Kinney, pretend it’s him. I feel myself relax, “I was thinking…” Now it’s his turn to stiffen behind me, “Who are you thinking about? James? Justin? Brian they’re children, they were slowing us down!” he whined. I spun to face him, “How many times have either of them come to our rescue when we needed them!?” I growl, pulling away as I stalk over to the tent, “BEN! GET UP!” I bark stalking away. ~~~~~~~~ The ride is silent, I know Mikey’s watching me much to Ben’s annoyance. Maverick’s ears prickle as we hear hooves in the distance. Slowing yo a stop, we draw our guns as they get nearer and it’s evident then they’re riding as fast as they can. Shots echo, startling the horses, orders being barked about as the strangers come into view. There’s five of them running, and about twelve chasing. We duck into the clump of trees beside us, one voice echoing above them all. A voice from my past. Emmett fucking Honeycutt. As they pass, I spot two horses who look alike. One being a pure white mare, the other being a dapple grey stallion, “Shit…” I hear Ben whisper as a grin appears on his lips. The rider of the white mare turns his head, blue eyes staring from under the hat as he shoots at one of his pursuers, getting him right between the eyes. Then they’re gone. Well at least I know they’re still alive but now they’re being chased and that’s never good. Then again, it’s not like there’s anything I can do. Not that I’d want too. Right? Shaking my head, we continue our ride, Ben never once wiping the smile off his face at the knowledge his sons are looking for us. Mikey looks ready to hunt the two teens down and kill them. Melanie and Ted look amused. They’d known Emmett and had always wondered what he was up to. Who were the other two with my boys? ~~~~~~~~ And I blame this world for making A good man evil Its this world that can drive a Good man mad And its this world that turns a killer Into a hero Well I blame this world for making A good man bad
