New Year’s Eve
Jennifer Taylor had decided that this New Years Eve she would have a Taylor family dinner. This dinner is also a celebration of Brian and Justin’s engagement that had taken place on December 24th. It will also be the time that Brian is introduced to the rest of Justin’s family.
The Loft 8:30 a.m.
Brian and Justin were still in their nice warm bed when the alarm went off. Brian reached over to shut it off because for some reason Justin was still sound asleep. In a lot of ways 8 o’clock was way too early for Brian to even be up but today was different. In about 16 or so hours it would be the year 2004. Brian decides that he’s going to wake Justin up this time so he gently shakes his shoulder to get his attention.
“Justin its time to wake up baby.” Brian said as he continued to gently wake Justin up.
“Mmmm…I don’t want to get up yet Bri.” Justin said as he tried to snuggle down further into the bed.
“Baby don’t you remember we have to be at you mom’s later today for a family dinner.” Brian said as he started to slowly kiss Justin on the shoulder.
“Yeah I remember but we don’t have to be there until 5 o’clock.” Justin said while he was hoping that he would get to sleep in longer.
“I know that but I told your mom that I would bring a couple of bottles of wine and you know that I want to get the best out there.” Brian said as he was almost begging.
“Ok you win I’ll get up so that I can help with choosing the wine.” Justin said as he was getting into a sitting position.
“I knew that you would see it my way.” Brian said as he gave Justin a kiss on the cheek.
“That was a dirty trick Brian.” Justin said as he laughed at his fiancés.
“Well I learned from the best.” Brian said as he gave his famous tongue in the cheek look.
Once Justin had finally gotten out of bed he went to take a quick shower so that they could go pick out the wine and still get back in time to get ready to go over to his mom’s for dinner. Justin knew that Brian was nervous about meeting the rest of his family and in a lot of ways he found it very cute. It was around 9:30 a.m. before they left the loft because Justin just had to drag his feet, as Brian would put it.
“So what kind of wine should we get?” Brian asked as he was driving to the nearest liquor store.
“How about a red wine?” Justin asked, as he knew that his mom usually fixed red meat on every New Year’s Eve.
“That sounds perfect baby.” Brian said as he reached over to caress Justin’s cheek.
“Well I mean my mom usually fixes ham or something like that on New Year’s Eve so it should work but just in case lets also pick up a white wine.” Justin said as he leaned into Brian’s touch.
“Sounds wonderful to me.” Brian said as he turned down the street to the store.
It only took them about 30 minutes to finally decided on both a red wine and a white wine and when your marrying Brian Kinney you know that your going to get the very best. After they bought the wine they decided to go to the park and walk around for a little bit before heading back home.
“Hey Brian lets go by the florist and pick up some flowers for mom.” Justin said as he and Brian were walking back towards the jeep holding hands.
“Now that’s a wonderful idea baby.” Brian said as he leaned over to give Justin a kiss on the cheek.
Justin couldn’t believe that he was going to be marrying the man of his dreams but the only thing is that they haven’t set a date yet. While they were driving to the florist they were discussing what kind of flowers they should get.
“What kind of flowers should we get for mom?” Justin asked while he reached to turn on the radio.
“Well lets get something that won’t make your allergies act up.” Brian said as he was starting to remember the last time Justin was near flowers.
“Yeah I know.” Justin said while laughing. “Do you remember the last time I was near flowers?” Justin asked as he remembers getting congested because the fragrance from those flowers was so strong.
“Yes I remember and if I remember correctly we tried to leave Mel and Lindsey’s place but Loletta wouldn’t let us.” Brian said as he remember putting the B-52’s song Love Shack on.
“I know this might be a crazy idea but why do we get carnations?” Justin asked while he remembered hearing about how people that have allergies don’t have any problems with carnations.
“That would be perfect baby.” Brian said as he pulled into the parking lot of a florist.
Once they finish picking out the carnations they finally head for home because they know that they need to do a few things before they have to leave for Justin’s parents house. They return home around 12:30 so they know that they got about 2 ½ to 3 hours before they have to get ready to leave.
3 hours later
They finally decide to get up and take a shower know that if they didn’t do it at that time then they wouldn’t have any play time before going over to Justin’s parents house. They spend about 30 minutes in the shower knowing that they didn’t need to shave. Once they were out of the shower Brian went to the closet to take out a black Armani shirt and black pants to match. Justin came in to grab a white dress shirt with black pants from the closet. When they were finished getting dressed they saw that it was about 4:15 and that meant if they didn’t leave then it would mean that they would be late.
The drive over to the Taylor’s house took about 20 minutes so they were the 3rd to arrive. Brian was so nervous that everything would go wrong because even though Justin’s parents are happy for them doesn’t mean anyone else will be too. Molly was looking out the window watching for her brother and Brian to arrive. When she saw them she ran to the door to open it and then she ran to them.
“Molly slow down or your going to fall and hurt yourself.” Justin said as he wrapped his arms around his sister.
“Oh come on Justin I wouldn’t have fallen.” Molly said as she gave him the pouty face.
“Yeah baby she wouldn’t have fallen down.” Brian said as he wrapped his arm around Justin.
“Where’s mom at Molly?” Justin asked as they walked into the house.
“She’s in the kitchen finishing cooking the dinner.” Molly said as she finally gave Brian a hug.
“Great I’ll be right back and behave.” Justin said as he walked away from his sister and Brian.
“Your just a party popper Justin.” Molly said as she stuck out her tongue to her brother.
“Now be nice to your brother Molly.” Brian said as he ruffled the girl’s head.
When Justin and Jennifer returned back to the living room everyone had arrived and it was now time for the introductions. Craig got up to stand by his wife and family showing his support.
“We’re glad that everyone could make this very special dinner because we have an announcement to make but 1st let me introduce everyone.” Jennifer said as she got closer to Craig and she noticed that Justin got closer to Brian.
“We’ll go 1st mom.” Justin said as he looked to Brian and saw that he was nodding his yes.
“Ok sweetheart.” Jennifer said as she smiled at her son and soon to be son in-law.
“Hi everyone. I realize that its been a long time since I’ve seen all of you but well I would like to introduce you to my fiancé Brian Kinney.” Justin said as he felt his other family members just glare at him and Brian.
“What are you saying Justin?” Uncle George said as he was trying to figure out if maybe he heard wrong.
“What I’m saying is that I’m gay and I’ve been out of the closet since I was 17 years old.” Justin said as he felt Brian wrap his arms around him.
“How old is this Brian?” Uncle George asked still glaring at his nephew.
“Brian is 31 years old and I met him when I was 17.” Justin said he some what expected this kind of reaction.
“So in other words he’s a pedophile?” Uncle George asked as he was now seeing things clearly.
“No he’s not George.” Jennifer said as she was getting tired of George being so rude.
“Uncle George Brian is the sweetest and the most kindest person I know. He even came to my Senior Prom but I’ll be honest and say that I don’t remember it.” Justin said as tears came to his eyes because he couldn’t remember it.
“Why can’t you remember sweety?” Aunt Margaret asked as she was smiling at her nephew.
“Well I got bashed in the head by a fellow classmate.” Justin said as he tried to get closer to Brian.
“Oh sweety I’m really sorry to hear that.” Aunt Margaret said as she got up to hug Justin.
“Did they catch the person who did it?” Uncle Joe asked, as he was curious as to what happened.
“Yes they caught the person thanks to Brian because he hit Chris Hobbs in the knees with the baseball bat.” Justin said while smiling up at Brian.
“Well that’s good because Chris sounds like a coward.” Aunt Margaret said as she gave Brian a grateful smile.
“So Brian what is it that you do?” Uncle Joe asked, as he now wanted to get to know him better.
“I’m a partner at Vanguard Advertising Agency.” Brian said, as he was feeling a little more comfortable around the family.
“Wow that’s very impressive for someone so young.” Aunt Margaret said, as she was very impressed.
“Yeah Brian is really smart and I was just hired as an art intern at the same agency.” Justin said while he was showing his sunshine smile.
“This calls for a celebration.” Aunt Margaret said, as she was so very proud of her nephew.
“I can’t believe that your allowing this to happen Craig.” Uncle George said as he stood up.
“Well I can’t believe that your being very hateful and rude to my son and soon to be son in-law.” Craig said as he was starting to loss his temper.
“George look you may not like me but I don’t give a shit what you think because I love Justin with all of my heart.” Brian said as he finally had enough of George.
“Craig are you going to let him talk to me like that?” Uncle George said as he was just insulted by Brian.
“Well you better be lucky that it was me who just explained that to you because I wouldn’t have been as nice.” Craig said as he losing his patience with his brother.
“Dinner’s ready.” Jennifer said as she came back into the living room.
“We’ll be there in a minute Jennifer. Justin and I are going to step outside for a minute.” Brian said as he grabbed Justin’s hand.
“Ok Brian take your time.” Jennifer said as she walked over to both Justin and Brian so that she could give them a hug.
Brian led Justin outside so that they could regroup and just talk for a little bit. Brian knew that Justin was hurt that his Uncle George could be so hurtful. Once they were outside Justin just turned into Brian’s arms and started crying.
“Justin its ok things will get better I promise.” Brian said as he was trying to comfort Justin.
“I just don’t understand Brian how he could be so hateful.” Justin said as he kept crying.
“I don’t know baby but at least your Aunt Margaret and Uncle Joe seemed to care about you and they also seemed happy that you have found the person of your dreams.” Brian said as he tried to explain to Justin.
“Thank you for sticking up for me in there Brian.” Justin said as he started wiping his tears away.
“Baby you never have to thank me because I will do anything to protect you.” Brian said as he leaned down to give Justin a kiss.
“I know that but you’ve done so much for me.” Justin said as he looked in the eyes of the man he loved.
“I do it because I love you baby.” Brian said as he caressed Justin’s cheek.
“I love you too Brian.” Justin said as he leaned into the caress.
“Are you ready to go back in now?” Brian asked while he wrapped his arm around Justin’s waist.
“Yeah lets go so that we can eat.” Justin said as he leaned into Brian.
Things seemed to go a lot smoother as the night wore on and everyone seemed to be having a good time. George was keeping to himself even though he felt very uncomfortable knowing that his nephew was gay. As the time got closer to midnight everyone was trying to get a good spot near the tv and of course they had their horns and hats and confetti. Molly had gone to bed around 10 p.m. because she was still to young to be awake that late.
11:59 p.m. 1 minute until midnight
Everyone had the tv turned on to Dick Clarks Rockin New Years Eve party. The camera cut to show the New Years ball getting ready to drop. When it reached 40 seconds until the New Year the Mayor hit the drop button.
“Ok there’s 20 seconds so get ready everyone.” Jennifer said as she went to get close to Craig.
“10, 9, 8, 7, 6, 5, 4, 3, 2, 1 Happy New Years.” Everyone said in unison.
Jennifer and Craig were sitting in a chair kissing and Brian and Justin were standing up against a wall with their arms wrapped around each other and kissing. Aunt Margaret kissed her husband Joe and then she went to give George a kiss on the cheek.
“Justin have you and Brian set a date for your wedding yet?” Aunt Margaret asked as she was hoping that maybe she could help in the planning.
“Not yet Aunt Margaret but we’ll let you know.” Justin said as he stayed in Brian’s arms.
“The reason why I asked was because I would love to help you guys plan it.” Aunt Margaret said as she went over to them.
“Well we can always use the help.” Justin said as he gave her a hug.
