and so it begins...

Arnout stands in front of Brian and Justin and extends his hands out as he begins, “Today we are here to witness the marriage union of Brian Aiden Kinney and Justin William Taylor.” Brian smiles, Justin was waiting to change his name until after their wedding, He had decided to drop William and replace with Taylor, and then add Kinney as his new last name. Justin Taylor Kinney… it sounds good. “Surrounded by friends and family, this couple has endured many obstacles, and through-out them all, have maintained their love for one another.” Justin grins, trying to keep his gaze on his soon to be husband. “Though there are many special and important individuals that cannot be here today to witness this beautiful union, they are here in spirit and in the hearts of those who love and loved them.” Brian gently squeezes Justin’s hands in his, smiling softly. Justin returns the smile, fighting the tears from forming in his eyes. “Marriage is the union of two people in heart, body and mind. It is intended for their mutual joy – and for the help and comfort given to one another in prosperity and adversity. But more importantly – it is a means through which a stable and loving environment may be attained. This occasion marks the celebration of love and commitment with which this loving couple shall begin their life together.” Justin can’t help but keep smiling as he rubs his fingertips against Brian’s palms. They were getting married. This wasn’t a dream. This was really happening. “This relationship stands for love, loyalty, honesty and trust, but most of all for friendship. Do not think that you can direct the course of love – for love, if it finds you worthy, shall direct you.” Brian smirks. Justin stifles a chuckle. Arnout was right though. Their course of love was anything but directed by either one of them. It just happened when the time was right. And the right time was now. “By law, this part must be done in Dutch; however, I will translate afterwards.” Both Justin and Brian nod. “Brian, neemt u Justin tot uw wettige echtgenoot. Belooft u van hem te houden, hem te eren en troosten wanneer nodig. In goede en slechte tijden, in rijkdom en armoede, in ziekte en gezondheid. En belooft u trouw te zijn aan hem zolang u beide zult leven?" Looking over at the confused faces of guests, Arnout smiles softly and translates, “Brian, do you take Justin, to be your wedded husband to live together in marriage? Do you promise to love, comfort, honor and keep him? For better or worse, for richer or poorer, in sickness and in health. And forsaking all others, be faithful only to him so long as you both shall live?" With a smile and loving expression, Brian looks directly into Justin’s blue eyes as he answers, “I do.” Justin feels his cheek grow warm. His smile widens and he impatiently waits for his turn. Arnout continues with a nod, “Justin, neemt u Brian tot uw wettige echtgenoot. Belooft u van hem te houden, hem te eren en troosten wanneer nodig. In goede en slechte tijden, in rijkdom en armoede, in ziekte en gezondheid. En belooft u trouw te zijn aan hem zolang u beide zult leven?" Smiling, he repeats the vow in English, “Justin, do you take Brian, to be your wedded husband to live together in marriage? Do you promise to love, comfort, honor and keep him? For better or worse, for richer or poorer, in sickness and in health. And forsaking all others, be faithful only to him so long as you both shall live?" Justin smiles widely as he looks deep into Brian’s eyes, “I do.” “And by what token of love do you both have to give to one another on this day?” Arnout asks. Brian and Justin both pull out their rings and prepare to put them on one another’s finger. “May these rings be a symbol of this affectionate unity. These two lives are now joined in one unbroken circle. Wherever they go – may they always return to one another.” Brian slides the ring around Justin’s finger, watching his movements as he speaks softly, “I give you this ring as the pledge of my love and as the symbol of our unity and with this ring, I thee wed” Justin smiles brightly, repeating the gesture by placing the matching ring around Brian’s finger, stating, “I give you this ring as the pledge of my love and as the symbol of our unity and with this ring, I thee wed” Arnout allows for a moment of pause before making the final proclamation. “As you have consented in this ceremony in the presences of friends and family to be partners for life, I now pronounce you married and bound together body and soul.” Brian and Justin stare at one another for a moment, somewhat stunned, somewhat thrilled, but mostly… happy. Leaning forward, they both let their lips touch gently for a second before falling into a tender kiss. Debbie sniffles, wiping her eyes. Carl puts down the video camera, tightening his arm around her. Everyone begins to clap and the rose petals are thrown, however Brian and Justin don’t seem to notice as they deepen their kiss. They are finally married.
