It’s a jump to the right

“This is dumb,” Molly comments out loud as she continues to write on the notepad. “Then why are you doing it?” Justin asks with a smirk, he was tired of moping and needed to focus on something positive before he snapped. She looks up at him with a smirk of her own before returning to the paper in her hands. “What do you have so far?” Justin asks, turning off the television and tossing the remote on the bed by his sister’s arm. “Not much,” she admits. “Seriously?” She shrugs. “Molly, this was all you were talking about before…” he stops himself. “Before Mom and Dad died.” She finishes for him. He swallows hard, “So what do you have?” Sitting up on the bed, she crawls over next to her brother and hands him the notepad, reading the list off to him. “A cake… a big one, with strawberries and pink icing.” “You and the color pink,” he teases with an eye roll. “Shut up, I like pink. It suits me.” “Fine. A pink ass flamingo cake.” “Justin!” He chuckles, “What?” “Strawberries. No flamingos on my birthday cake, got it?” He smiles, “Fine. No flamingos. What else do you have?” “Balloons.” “Pink, right?” Justin asks with a smirk. “Different shades of pink.” “You’re impossible.” “I like pink.” she states. “I might vomit.” “Shut up.” “Whatever.” “I want a pink cake and pink balloons.” “If you dye your hair pink I’m going to scream.” Molly’s eyes light up, “I didn’t think of that!” “Aw shit.” She giggles, pointing to the next item, “I want a gift certificate to a music store.” “I can read, Molly.” “And I think I want to start going to a dance class.” “Really?” Justin asks, happy that she was already thinking that far in the future, which was better than where he was at the moment. “That’s great. We can look around and find an academy or company or something.” She suddenly looks sad as she looks at the next item on her list. “Just ignore that one. I was being stupid.” Justin smile softly, “Wanting your friends from St. James to be there isn’t stupid, Molly.” “I’m never going to see them again.” She sighs sadly. “You never know,” Justin tries. She shakes her head. “They probably think I’m dead… and they’ll hate me if they knew I wasn’t and didn’t call them to tell them I was safe.” Justin shakes his head. Were teen-agers really that superficial? Ignoring the fact that he was technically still in his teen years, he shakes his head again. “If they’re mad, then they’re stupid, Molly. Shit,” he shakes his head again. She shrugs, “Whatever.” “Whatever.” Justin agrees. Returning to the list, he asks, “That’s it?” “I’m easy to please.” “No you’re not.” “Fuck off,” she teases. “Shit, who ever taught you to talk like that?” Justin asks with a chuckle. She laughs, playfully hitting his arm. Still smiling, Justin pulls her close, “Molly, I promise you that I’m going to do everything I can to make your thirteenth birthday the best you ever had.”
