It was nine and Brian was on the phone with Will Markis, the D.A. "Why the fuck weren't we notified that Craig Taylor had been released?!" Brian demanded.
"He wasn't."
"What are you talking about? The motherfucker called me last night!"
Will sighed. "He wasn't released, Mister Kinney. A couple of nights ago, he was being transported on a prison van. There was an accident. Both guards were killed. Mister Taylor escaped. Nobody knew until yesterday morning. The van hadn't arrived, so they sent out a search crew and found the overturned van."
"And, nobody felt the need to let any of us know?"
"I'm sorry. You all fell through the cracks. It happens sometimes. Everyone thinks that someone else did the notifing, when in reality nobody has."
Bian was still beyond pissed. "You're sorry? Sorry's bullshit! If Craig gets to any of us, I'll make sure that your entire office is held responsible. I just want his fucking ass caught and back in jail!" With that said, Brian slammed down the phone.
Turning to face Justin, Molly, and Jennifer, he started to talk and sign. "He escaped a couple of nights ago. He was being transported on a van and there was an accident. The D.A. claims that they didn't know until yesterday morning." He hugged Justin and spoke to Jennifer. "Don't worry. I'm not going to let anything happen to any of you. No matter what."
AN HOUR LATER
Molly and Jennifer were laying down in Brian and Justin's bed, trying to get a little rest. Justin and Brian were sitting on the couch. Have you decided what to tell Lindsay and Melanie? You know that they'll start bugging you today.
Brian nodded in agreement. "I don't know. I never really thought about having kids, given my childhood. I always just assumed I'd uphold the family tradition of being a bad father. But... on the other hand, it would be nice to have a son or daughter. But I'm not sure about giving up my rights to Melanie."
Brian, I know that you would make a wonderful father. Looking into Justin's eyes, Brian could see that he was telling the truth. He could also see the love shining in those blue pools.
And, continued Justin, I will support you in whatever you want to do. If you want to sign your rights over to Melanie, alright. I you don't, that's fine too. We can always get another surrogant mother for our child. Brian gave Justin a smile, then leaned in and kissed him.
Brian pushed the button to unlock the front door, for Melanie and Lindsay. They had wanted to talk to him about the baby idea, again. Brian had already made his desicion.
A few minutes later; Justin, Brian, Melanie, and Lindsay were sitting on the couch and chairs. Molly and Jennifer were staying in the bedroom, trying to give them privacy.
"Brian--," started Lindsay.
Brian held up his hand to silence her. "I've already made my desicion, Linds." After a moment, he continued. "I'll have the baby with you... but I'm not signing over my rights. I can't."
Melanie jumped up. "What?! You know you can't be a father!"
Brian stood up, galring at Melanie. "I'm not going to be just a sperm donar. I want to be a better man than my own father. I will not sign over my rights." Lindsay and Justin stood up. Justin placed his hand on the small of Brian's back, to lend his support.
"Think about this, Brian," pleaded Lindsay.
"I have. If you want to have a baby with me, fine. But my parental rights will stay just that... mine. Take it or leave it."
"We'll leave it, asshole!" yelled Melanie before she grabbed Lindsay's arm and they left.
Looking at Brian, Justin signed. You did the right thing. Melanie is just being a bitch.
Brian smirked and had to nod in agreement. Dipping his head to kiss Justin, he had to wonder how he was ever so lucky to land Justin. He made a silent promise to keep Justin safe and to always try to be a man that the blonde could be proud of.
