"I was like one of those guys at the airport with those big flashlights-waving them this way, directing that way..." Alyssa Jones-Chasing Amy Michael's Comic Book Store... Back room... Ben walked back into the room a little worse for wear, Faith was almost sorry this had come up in the first place but that was how things were right? Her charges came first and foremost. No matter how sucky the situation was or would be come in this case. "I take it he didn't like you ditchin' him tonight?" Ben sighed rubbing his tiered eyes, this had been the third time he had talked Michael out of going to the movies. It was beginning to become a real pain in the butt to come up with excuses on why he had to bail at the last minute. He really didn't think that 'honey I can't go out tonight because my white lighter needs my help' would fly by Michael. "What the hell is going on?" "How 'bout we get some coffee and I'll try to shave off the gory details?" Since he had told Michael he would close tonight Ben asked her for a few minutes to lock the front gates to the comic shop and locked the back door before taking her hand. Bright swirls of blue and white lights surrounded the two as Faith orbed them out of the back room. They landed in a quiet neighbor hood just a few blocks away from the Pittsburgh Institute of Fine Arts, and made their way into an all night café. Placing their orders the two long time friends tucked themselves into the furthest corner of the place. "You gonna tell me now or wait till I pry it out of you?" Ben asked with mild amusement. Faith ran a hand through her dark locks; she didn't know how to explain her situation with out causing some sort of alarm. "Some one seriously fucked things up for us." Never let it be said that Faith Laheny wasn't blunt. "Come again?" “Justin…” “What about him?” Ben had known that Justin was one of Faith’s charges. He had been talking with her after one of his classes had let out, that’s when Justin had come running up to them asking Faith when she had gotten back in town. After Justin left Faith told Ben that Justin was one of her charges. Justin had yet to come into his powers so he didn’t know that Faith was a white lighter. “He was already supposed to be here.” “What?” “According to my minds history, three years ago today.” She stopped talking when the waitress came and sat their drinks down. Faith continued once she was sure the woman was out of earshot. “Justin was supposed to have already met his… champion.” She had actually laughed when her mentor had told her this thinking it had been some cosmic joke. “They’re words not mine, apparently that wasn’t in the books for someone because somebody down there messed that up.” “I don’t understand. If he was meant to be here than he would have already been here.” “What part of messed up don’t you understand? Something big is in the works and they’re going nuts up they’re wondering why these two haven’t hooked up already.” “Why are we just finding out about it now?” Something didn’t feel right about the situation or the conversation. The Elders were supposed to be all knowing and powerful beings. It just didn’t make sense that they would keep something like this a secret for so long. “I don’t know, what I do know is that he’s in trouble with out this guy whoever he is.” “Didn’t anyone know about this? Leo? Andy?” Faith shook her head. “Nope, they’re just as lost as the Elders.” “Where is Justin now?” He didn’t like her silence at all. “Faith… Faith.“ “What? I gave ‘em a shove in the right direction.” His eyes narrowed down as he took in her false innocent expression. “What did you do?” “Look,” “Faith you’re not suppose to interfere…you’ve said as much before…” “He’s my charge Ben…” “What aren’t you telling me?” Ben was getting vibes off his long time friend and she was screaming defense. He’d been getting these kinds of feelings for days and it wasn’t just his empathic abilities running a mock. “What’s really going on?” “Someone decided play times over, skip the game and go for the prize.” “I don’t appreciate being lead on here, if you’re just going to play these mind games than I’m leaving.” Her hand shot out latching onto his wrist. “I need to know that I can trust you.” Looking into her dark brown eyes he found something he hadn’t seen before, and for the first time since knowing her he could actually put a name to it. Fear. “You know you can.” He slowly sat back down. “What aren’t you telling me?” “Something big is going on in the Underworld,” “That’s nothing new.” “It took a lot of magic to keep Justin and this guy apart in the first place.” She paused for a moment letting this sink in. “I mean really big, Ben this isn’t kids stuff. It’s beyond anything we’ve dealt with. Whoever did it made it so no one knew about it… About them.” “What is it exactly that is so important about these two? And how is it that you know about them?” “It pays to be a former slayer,” was all she said. “Ben, Justin is in deep, and he doesn’t even know it.” “Does anyone else know? Aside from me?” “You’re the only one I’ve told.” It took Ben just a few seconds for her words to really kick in. “You don’t trust them.” “I don’t trust anyone…” “Than why are you sitting here with me?” “Because you’re the only one who hasn’t turned on me…” Yet. ~*~ Brian slammed the door to his jeep shut and slumped in the front seat, the cool breeze had barely relieved the heat he now felt course through his body. The feeling he had been trying to numb just a few hours before came back at him ten folds and it was slowly killing him. Opening his eyes he glanced down and caught a glimpse at something or someone running past and into the alleyway. It was either his imagination or he saw someone just appear out of thin air. “What the hell…” shaking the uneasy feeling in the pit of his stomach he reached for his key, glancing up he did a double take. Standing more than a few feet away from his jeep was the most beautiful creature he’d ever seen. Bathed in the light of the street lamps stood an angel with golden blond locks, (he’d later blame his lesbian thinking on the amount of liquor he’d consumed) The pull was almost too strong to ignore, and didn’t even think as he hopped out of his jeep making his way over to the young man. Just imagining all the things he would do once he took him home. ~*~ Deep in the shadows someone watched as fate worked its way into these two beings. Heart pounding as he watched his only son give in to his instincts. Cursing because he had worked so hard to keep them apart. “You knew you couldn’t keep them apart for long.” “If I wanted your opinion I would have asked for it.” He snapped. “Come on don’t be like that big guy,” the man looked at the arm thrown around his shoulder. “This is me backing off now.” He held his hands up in mock surrender. “It’s time to let this happen.” The two watched as Brian Kinney made his way over to the young man standing under the lamppost. “You know I’m right.” He was beyond annoyed with his friend’s honesty and had an extreme dislike for him at the moment. However looking at the two young men he could already see it happening. What should have taken place three years ago to the day was taking place now, and all he could hope for was that his son knew what he was getting himself into. “I just…” “Wanted to protect him from the big bad? Yeah, well now that’s not your job anymore.” “The hell it isn’t.” “Hey… I’m on your side. What they’re about to face sucks but its gonna happen no matter what you do.” “He’s my son.” “Also true but in the grand scheme of things that doesn’t change who he is to Justin.” The younger man sighed. “Look at it this way neither know about their powers yet so for now they’re safe, right?” It wasn’t a real comfort to the older man but it was something. The two disappeared in a swirl of red and white lights. ~*~
