Summary:

AU after Season 4. The year Justin turns 23, he and Brian get the news that over the next year he's going to gradually lose all of his hearing. The series tracks the next three years of their life as they manage their new reality, after-effects of the bashing, their eventual move to New York, and their ever-evolving relationship. Told in first-person chapters from their points of view and some outsiders, with some angst, a lot of hurt/comfort, and loads of humor. 4/8/22  So. That author's note was written a long, long time ago. I wrote it with the best of intentions, I swear. But life happened, and for reasons I won't go into here, I couldn't bring myself to continue writing a story with this subject matter. But that little folder has lived on my desktop for all this time, and I have never forgotten where I left our boys. And so, one day a month or so ago, I opened it up and spent some time reminding myself just how much I love Brian and Justin and Queer As Folk. I still have reservations writing about cancer for 'entertainment'. I am no medical professional, nor have I personally experienced anything like what Brian is going to go through. But I've done more research for this than anything else I've ever done, and I've tried to treat it with the sensitivity and respect it deserves. Please forgive any inaccuracies.

I don't even know if anyone will give it a chance again, but I owe to those of you who trusted me and read it all those years ago (and to the boys) to keep my word and try to finish this beast. I hope you'll join me.

Summary:

Brian and Justin have moved the family to Atlanta for the summer.  Justin planned to focus on his art students and his own work. J.Jay, his assistant, would be helping him at the gallery and with the other young artists that would come and go throughout the summer.

Brian had a couple leads for new clients he planned on working on this summer but his main plan was to spend as much time with his kids as he could.  He especially wanted to spend time with Gus.  Since Lindsay had come back to the states, Brian felt like he was missing out on so much more and Gus was growing up so fast. Henry had come along to take care of the kids. A housekeeper had been hired to do some of the cooking and to clean while they were there.  It was the perfect home away from home for the Tyler-Kinney clan.

Kevin had started the center years earlier and now had bigger plans for Legacy Atlanta.  Tom Butterfield had been running the place since Kevin had moved to Pittsburgh.His wife, Natalia, had been working with Brandy and Sally, Kevin’s adopted daughters and he couldn’t wait to meet his newest granddaughter, Kelin Cae, who had been named after him.  They planned to open a new, expanded Center that would be able to help more struggling, young adults.

 

Another benefit to the trip was to get away from Craig Taylor.  If it was the last thing they did, they were keeping full custody of Aaron. Craig may have donated sperm, but that was his only contribution.  He was still on parole so he wasn’t allowed to leave the state….or could he.

Gus reminiscing about growing up with B/J- Funny stories, harrowing tales, first times, tales about trips they made- anything the writer chooses. Would love at least 2-3 stories ( tales) that Gus shares. B/J could disagree with his memories and they could tell their version- if writer chooses. ( not necessary- just choice of writer)

This is the result. It's set in 2029. I think of this as being loosely Homecoming future, but all that anyone needs to know is that Brian and Justin have been living together in Pittsburgh in a riverside house since Justin's return from New York. Justin and Daphne have a daughter – Dani. Brian, Justin, and Daphne are co-parents, an arrangement which works well for them all. Dani is 16, Gus is 29.

However, all that changed two days ago. When, I met a fallen angel under a streetlight, no matter how lesbian I sounded, to me that was true. Looking so innocent and pure, he was just asking for me to pick him up. I don't normally go for blonds, but I wanted to be in that world- that world of light- at least for a night.
