Hi, Kari - first of all, my apologies for not reviewing after every chapter.  RL has been very hectic over the past few months, but I try to read a little bit before bed each night, and for the past few days, I've been reading this.

You are such a good writer at evoking emotion. I always hated how they glossed over Brian's illness, and made it seem almost trivial in nature.  I much prefer this more realistic version of yours.  Your Justin in this story is courageous, stubborn, and brave, but you have also shown both his and Brian's vulnerability and love for each other.

I also think you did an outstanding job of explaining Brian's character, and why he has made certain choices and decisions in his life based upon his childhood.

What a moving story this is!  I certainly hope we will continue to see more stories from you here on MW. Thank you for posting this one here.  :)  ~Kim

Thank goodness that Justin went to Debbie.   She always was the voice of reason for Brian, and I'm so glad that she finally got through to him.   And Brian was finally able to tell Justin that he loved him.   That was a huge milestone for them!!

My beta panicked a bit when Justin left, until she found out he was only going to get Debbie to knock some sense into Brian. ;) And I really, really wanted the "I love you" in this story...one advantage of AU! Glad I pulled it off. <3

Brian seriously needs to let go of his pride on this one and just let Justin be there for him to help him through this.   He helped Justin get past all the issues that he went through after the bashing, so this is just Justin helping Brian in return.

Brian needs to let go of some of his pride tell Justin those three little words as well.    He needs to realize that he doesn't need to do everything alone and its okay for people to help him.   I always hated what his parents did to him.    He is so emotionally messed up because of Jack and Joan.

Yes, his past really affects who he is as a person, and it comes into everything he does, especially in his relationships with other people. But it's part of what makes this character interesting to work with and develop in a story.

Poor Brian needs to give himself a break and just let things happen as they happen.    Between the radiation he's going to be getting and his mind thinking just the worst of any scenario, he's really not helping himself at all.

I am so liking this story, and I wish the tv show had gone this route as well.   I like that Justin confronted Brian with the message right away and they got things out in the open themselves.
