What a great little story.   Just goes to show you that no matter how much Brian and his family don't along, all it takes is something as serious as a life threatening disease to put everything into perspective.

Author's Response:

I'm very glad you enjoyed this story. I think, deep-down, Brian's family means a lot to him, despite what they've put him through. Or rather, I think he has a strong sense of filial duty. He was upset when his father died, and I think he was legitimately upset when his nephew accused him of sexual harassment. The family is dysfunctional, but they seem to stick together. Thanks again for reading and for your wonderful review!

Yet again, despite the appalling treatment from his family Brian steps up to support them showing his true compassionate and caring nature but also his vulnerability. Very poignant story.

Author's Response:

Thanks ;-) I'm glad that you found this story impactful and meaningful. I always kind of got the idea that Brian had a strong sense of family, even though they were dysfunctional. He certainly is one for loyalty! Thanks again for reading and for your lovely review!

Wonderful story so gentle and sad. I loved how even Emmett is so close to Brian these days he can see past the walls. Brian would pay for Clare and help with the boys because that is Brian. I was a little frightened you were going to go there with Brian I am glad you didn’t

Author's Response:

Thanks *hugs* I'm very glad you enjoyed this story. I have a special place in my heart for Emmett, especially with regard to his relationship with Brian. I always felt their friendship was a little different that all of Brian's other's. I think Emmett is far more deep and mature than he lets people think... Someone asked if ALS was hereditary and if that was where I was going. The answer is no. There are some hereditary factors in ALS, but that is not the primary cause. Rather, I thought this would be an interesting way yo to explore Brian's relationship with his family. Always an interesting topic... Thanks so much for reading and for your lovely review!

Justin taking on baking for the holidays is so in character.  Brian being concerned about Claire is a different look at him.  I had a friend who had ALS, ugly disease.  His symptons developed very quickly.  I live in a death with dignity state so he ended things before he became completley incapacitated.  Very moving story.   Bill

Author's Response:

Thanks Bill :-) I'm glad you enjoyed this story. Shortly before I wrote this, I read a story about a young woman who had early onset ALS, like Stephen Hawkins. It was sad but also inspirational. This was one of the reasons I thought of it for Clarie, because I think Brian - for all his outwards appearances, cares about his family. He could never quite sever ties with any of them, pssobly because he never - in his heart of hearts - really wanted to. Thanks so much for reading and for your lovely review!
