Amazing and satisfying story, and I'm happy that Brian could get dressed so fast and catch Justin before he left. :)

This was awesome! The A/N was quite a read in itself. I'm glad you wrote it. You got to meet Randy? I totally agree there's nothing weak about that man. He oozes confidence and is so sure of himself, yet doesn't take himself so seriously, he's AH-MAZIN! He's really nothing like Justin. In fact, hasn't he mentioned someplace that he found Justin rather blond? That doesn't make me love our dear Sunshine any lesser, though. They are just two very different people and I happen to love them both. Thanks again for this fic. I loved it, would be an understatement!

Loved this.  Would love more of it or something similar!!! But, no pressure, finding the time to breathe is hard sometimes, right?

All the best,

Laura

Author's Response:

Hi Laura!

Thank you for reading and for your lovely words. I wish I had time to write more on this, but RL is hopping right now AND I've got what seems like 1001 WIPs hanging over my head. LOL! Until I get completely caught up, I won't even attemp any sort of sequel. Thank you, though, I am very happy that you liked it enough to want more.

Cheers,

Vin

A very FINE chapter! You tie everything with a bow at the end so nicely. I was afraid Brian would let Justin go, but thankfully, he pulled his pants up in five seconds flat and went after him with the suggestion of having breakfast together. I bet, though, one week won't be enough :))) Big thanks!

Author's Response:

Thank you so, so much, NMS for a wonderful review. I am so happy you think the story has a proper ending. As for Brian letting Justin go,well...that was never going to happen! :) And, no, I don't think one week would ever be enough!

Cheers,

Vin

I absolutely adored your Strong!Confident!Justin! Brian is always turned on by Justin when he's headstrong and chellenges him. You did an outstanding job with this! I would LOVE to see it continued to find out how their week goes. I just know neither one of them will be ready to end it in a week! :-)

Hugs, Cindy

Author's Response:

Thank you so much, Cindy! I am so happy you liked the story overall and my portrayal of a confident Justin. I am not personally continuing the story, but there's a possibility of another author picking it up and writing a continuation/sequel. That's not set in stone just yet, but if it happens, I'll keep everyone posted.

Thanks again for reading and reviewing!

Cheers,

Vin

Darn it! I forgot to ask. Where is the rest of the sequel to Persistence of Memory? Did you finish Same Time Next Year? I'm dying here.

Author's Response:

*hangs head in shame* I am still working on Promise of Hope. I haven't abandoned it, although I wish I never published the first 2 chapters until I had more of the story written. Sigh. As for Same Time, Next Year, I am working on the next chapter too. That one should be up within the week. *fingers crossed* I am sorry for all the delays, that really wasn't my intention. I'll do my very, very best to finish everything before I start posting my next story...yeah, I have another one brewing. Blame, Randy for inspiring me with new plot bunnies every time I see him on stage.

Lastly, get some sleep already! LOL!

And, thank you very, very, very much for reading my stuff.

Cheers,

Vin

I should stick to getting sleep before I review. I can barely make any sense out of the second sentence I wrote, LOL.

I have been a fanfic addict for quite some time. That is why I am so grateful for you new writers.  I think the quality is only improving. I read Persistence of Memory again the other day and Predec2 is always a good choice.  The story doesn’t have to be canon for me. I can watch the DVDs if that was all I wanted and people have their own interpretation of canon. I love Predec2’s stories. Her characterizations have both Brian and Justin as intelligent, strong, and equal in their relationship and usually monogamous. That is the way I believe they were heading when the series ended and I like to think of them that way. I can read hers and your stories over and over again, enjoying them more each time.

I fell in love with QAF because of the relationship between Brian and Justin. They were equals in so many ways. Brian was there for Justin after his father kicked him out and after the bashing, but Justin helped Brian with the Kip fiasco and his nephew’s accusations. They looked out for each other as partners do. Speaking of partners – I read Broken Open. That has got to be one of the strongest Justins I’ve read or the most macho.  Loved it.

But even though Strong Justin is my favorite, I still love Soliel’s  Five Coins and Zahar’s The Sultan’s Favorite. I’m just as versatile as Justin when it comes to a good fanfic story. I don’t think one category is better than than the other, it’s just what I prefer to read at a given moment. It’s just that it has been difficult to find strong Justin fics. Although, when I really think about it, Justin is pretty strong in Soliel’s story.

Okay, you know how I digress – the listening thing.  If I don’t listen to a story, I wouldn’t get any story in a day. I have a Nook but I also have an Amazon Kindle Touch. I only use it for the Text to Speech feature. It’s mechanical sounding, but it’s that or nothing. I have gotten quite use to it. Oh, I listen with headphones because I got a 9 year old with impressionable ears.

Gotto go get this kid to go to bed then watch a movie with hubby as I fold laundry. I multitask, so I’ll read fanfic when my husband stops for snacks or bathroom breaks, LOL.

Hugs,

SandraJ

PS: I think I’m hogging all the space again, LOL.

Author's Response:

I pretty much agree with most of what you said. I loved Soleil's Five Coins - it was a beautiful story, although the ending was a bit abrupt. I guess I have no room to complain about that after the way I ended Persistence of Memory. LOL! Lots of people told me the exact same thing. As for The Sultan's Favorite, that's a completely NEW title to me. I guess I'll have to check it out.

Thanks for the info about the Text to Speech feature. I didn't realize that was available on some e-readers. Since I don't own one (except for the iPhone apps), I had no idea. I know that there are a few stories on A03 that some people recorded and made available for download as audio tracks, but there aren't many of them. I thought that there was another site I don't know about that has recordings of fanfic stories. Guess not. I guess I better start saving for an e-reader of some kind.

Speaking of audio fics on Ao3, if you haven't read or heard "Blissed" you are missing out. It's a hilarious fic that must be read/heard at least once. Here are the links:

Loved it, very well written and humorous. I'd also like to know about how to listen to the stories :)
.... oh and sequel ? por favor...????

Author's Response:

Thank you, Hotesse, for reading and reviewing. I am always happy when readers like my stories, makes me feel so good.

As for the sequel, I am sorry, but I won't be writing one. However, there's an author who IS interested in writing a sequel to this story, if she has time. It's not a done deal yet, so I don't wan't to say who it is. I don't want to put her on the spot, in case it doesn't happen. If she DOES decide to do it, the sequel will be HER story, but will continue from where I left off. So, here's hoping it actually happens!  :)

Cheers,

Vin

THANK YOU, for writing this. I have to get some more sleep but I start reviewing fics, but I had to respond to this one right away. I actually listened to this on the way to work yesterday. Initially, I was listening to Running by Nightvison55 --I was in the mood for a Strong Justin fic, which is my favorite type to read. The Strong Jusitn is the Justin I admired in the series and yet seems elusive to find in fandom. Your story reflect my estimation of that character. I think he would be too resourceful to fall to hustling as the first mode of survival. An Overworked Justin is a more logical fit to me. I don't know why this Justin is not explored more.

Now, like you, I enjoy the Hustler, Homeless, Captive/Slave, Justin, and only if it is done well and not to squicky. Ooops! I'm going off into tangents. Back to your story:

I love the way you had Brian ask Justin out for a date without even asking. And a fuck of a lifetime instead of using the word relationship was damn cute.Oh, and I love the morning after scene in the bed when Brian was admiring the bruises he had placed on Justin's body (sounds kinky -- not what I mean, LOL).

You're done another great job here, Vin.

Sandra:)

Author's Response:

Thank you, Sandra! Your reviews are alwasy so thoughtful and this one was no exception; they mean a lot to me.

I am pretty much a fanfic addict and I've read all sorts of stories, some very OOC. As long as the characters are written well and fit that particular world, it doesn't bother me if they are sometimes OOC. But, like I said before, I do have a particular preference for strong characters in any story, fanfic OR fiction. It's one of the reasons why I love almost all characters in Harry Potter, and pretty much despise Bella Swan - a character who has no agency and feels no self-worth without her boyfriend. It's one of the reasons Running by Nightvision55 is one of my all-time favorites - excellent example of a Strong!Justin. Broken Open by Gina Marie is another one that I absolutely adore and have read twice. If you haven't read that one for some odd reason, do so immediately! Well, maybe after you get some sleep. LOL! Predec2 also has a number of stories with a pretty strong Justin, which is one of the reasons I love her writing.

Anyway, as I said in my author's note, this little one-shot was a "love letter" of sorts to the many fanfic stories where Justin is Brian's equal (if not financially, then in maturity, experience or strength of character). So, I am quite happy to have succeeded in my intent to deliver that.

Thank you, again!

Cheers,

Vin

P.S. Quick question - how or where did you listen to this story and to Running? I'd love to listen on the way to work, instead of reading on my tiny cellphone screen.

Reviewer: Jean (Anonymous) · Date: August 26, 2012 06:52 PM · On: Chapter 1

This was good and I agree, I think strong Justin is more in character.

I love strong Justin.  Now you're making me feel guilty about currently working on a hustler Justin story.  :)  I like your little story here.  Brian is in character and Justin could, indeed, work more than one job.  Good work on the story.

- Jackie

Author's Response:

NOOOOOOOOO! Don't feel guilty, please, please don't! I love Hustler!Justin stories. I've read a few of them and loved them. And I'm pretty certain that being a street hustler is no easy life and to survive on the streets one has to be pretty damn strong. I just wanted to write a story where Justin does everything he can to avoid being on the streets and manages to do that by nearly working himself to death. LOL! It's just a different version of a strong Justin. And don't get me wrong, a somewhat weak/needy/inexperienced Justin can be pretty hot too, especially when Brian is there to protect him. That's the beauty of fanfiction, or regular fiction, for that matter - you can do ANYTHING you want with your characters.

Thank you for reading, Jackie, and for a lovely review. I truly appreciate it,

Hugs & Cheers,

Vin

P.S. I've read and loved several of your stories and I can't wait to see what happens in this one.

Reviewer: meme$veryrich (Anonymous) · Date: August 25, 2012 08:47 PM · On: Chapter 1

This was very nice, I for one never ever seem Justin as being weak on the show and that bother me when I started reading some of the B/J story making him out to be a pussy, it seem so disrespectful to the actor.....that's just my point of view. Again very nice need more of this kind of story telling.

Author's Response:

Hi Meme!

Thank you for reading and reviewing. I am very happy you liked this story and my portrayal of Justin. I agree that Justin was never shown as a weak character on the show. He was a little bit of a brat the first season, but he already had a surprising strength of character for being only 17.

As for fanfic, I love all sorts of stories and I love how different writers put these characters in sometimes impossible situations, but alwasy find a way to a good resolution. So, if the plot overall is good, I tend not to focus on things I may not like as much as others. I've loved many OOC stories where Brian took care of Justin in one way or another, and I always justify it that he has done so many times in canon (post bashing, especially), so it's still plausible. In the end, it's fan fiction and I love how authors let their imaginations roam and take these characters into places I never imagined them to go.

I personaly don't think it's disrespectful to the actor, because Randy Harrison is NOT Justin Taylor, he was just playing him as the script was written. If CowLip and company wrote a weak Justin, Randy would have played him admirably that way also.

Again, thank you for a lovely review!

Cheers,

Vin

Wow, Vin, I don't know how you could ever doubt that any story you write wouldn't be met with great accolades; as usual this was great!  Love the 'little lamb' that you sneaked in there, whether intentional or unintentional - you know what THAT makes me think of!

Wonderful job as always - you truly are a gifted writer.  Thanks for sharing this.  *Hugs*  ~Kim

Author's Response:

Hi Kim!

Thank you so much your wonderful words. I am alwasy nervous about my writing, you know this. LOL! For some reason I just can't help being paranoid that it'll turn out to be crap. It's alwasy a nice, ego-boosting surprise when people end up liking something I wrote and it always makes me a little bit more confindent in my writing abilities.

Anyway, I am very happy you enjoyed the story and noticed my little lamb alert! That was definitely intentional. I can't think of Randy and not remember him wearing cute little lamb ears and prancing around on stage. LOL!
God, he was adorable!

Cheers,

Vin

The potential of this story is astounding, one chapter definitly doesn't do it justice. What happens to our boys after their week together? What kind of ups and downs do they go through during this time?.........there is so much more of this story to be told.

Please consider adding more chapters to this wonderful story, I personally will be very greatful if you do :) JP

Author's Response:

Thank you, JP, for a wonderful review. It's rather gratifying to know that people want more of this story. I agree that the potential for more is there, but why wouldn't there be with these characters? Unfortunately, I really didn't plan on writing anything more to this story. In my mind they enjoy their week together, decide to stretch it to a month, then another month and then, they reaalize they've been together for a year.

Thank you again.

First off, thank you I have always liked a strong Justin. I’m sure one week will never be enough. I think I may have written this before but I really enjoy all your stories and I am dying for you to finish ‘Same Time Next Year’ and ‘The Promise of Hope’. Pleeeeease.

Cheers

Author's Response:

Hi Flossee,

Thank you for reading and your lovely words. I'm happy you liked the story and I agree, one week together between those two will never be enough. In my mind a week will stretch into a month, a month into a year and before they both know it they'll be in love.

I am working on "Same Time, Next Year" and hope to update that one fairly soon (Randy's good for inspiration. LOL). As for the Promise of Hope, I am not planning on abandoning it. I plan to finish it, but I've left it on a backburner for now because I want to finish STNY and "It was only time" first. I hate having so many WIP's on my plate and I want to have at least those two completely finished before I picked up POH again.

Thanks again!

Vin...

First I am SOOOOO jealous! I am desperately seeking a way to go see  Randy on stage!

Second... I Love This! Such a positive boy, our Justin! Thanks for this little love letter.

Roni

Author's Response:

Hi Roni,

I consider myself to be extremely lucky to have seen Randy on stage a few times. He's wonderful and I'm always inspired after seeing him perform live. I wish the whole world could see him on stage. If I hear anything about a new play of his, I could always PM you with the details. I hope you'll get to see him soon.

As for the story, I am so glad you liked it! I enjoy reading all sorts of fanfic, but my favorite stories by far are those where both Brian and Justin are more or less on equal footing and where Justin's strength of character matches that of Brian (like your Tuesday's Child. Even in prison and abused, your Justin never looses his core and is dealing, and surviving in a horrible situation mostly through his strength of character.) That's the kind of Justin I wanted to portray and I hope I succeeded.

Thanks again!

Cheers,

Vin
