Author's Response: Thanks - I'm so glad you enjoyed it :-) I have a bit of a fetish for protective!Justin. I like to think that Justin was 'in charge' more often than we saw in canon. He certainly had the personality to be, and I think later on in the series, Brian might have started to accept it. It sort of shows that they had developed a balanced relationship. I loved your descriptive words of how Brian felt nervous and unsettled while posing for this painting. Brian is always confident when naked, but this is a different side of him. I loved it!
Author's Response: Thanks Cheryl ;-) I'm so glad you enjoyed this, and that you could see that this is a different side of Brian. He's not nervous about being naked - he thinks it is, which is why he's frustrated with himself. But what is really unsettling him is the fact that he has to be a perfect model. He doesn't want to disappoint Justin, but he doesn't quite know what Justin the Artist wants from him. He's placated at the end when he realizes that Justin the Artist wants the same thing as Justin his Lover. Art is subjective, and Brian is the perfect model in Justin's eyes - just by being himself.

Author's Response: That would seem to be the case at face value, yes. But let me explain where I was coming from with this. Brian is a perfectionist, and perfectionists are wary of doing things that they are not 100% sure they can succeed in. What Brian is nervous about in this setting is not being being naked in front of Justin - it's the fact that Justin has chosen him to be the perfect masculine model. But Brian doesn't quite know how to fulfill that role. He's frustrated that Justin the Artist isn't explaining it to him, and why he feels like he's being objectified. What Brian wants - and what Justin eventually gives him - is the assurance that Justin's idea of a perfect masculine model is subjective. The perfect model is whatever the artist wants it to be.
Perhaps that is a bit of an academic take on it, but it made sense to me. I think Brian's reaction here to being objectified fits Brian's character. But that's just my point of view.
