“Hey JT!“ comes the voice down the speaker, my head cocking sideways, “What!?“ I snap at James, keeping my eyes on the road, “Sing with me. Billie Jean is not my lover; She's just a girl who claims that I am the one; But the kid is not my son; She says I am the one, but the kid is not my son”. “If I could moonwalk I would” came Cody’s voice followed by laughter from everyone, Brian included. I shook my head, most unimpressed but trying to hide my smile, “Why did I ever hire you losers?” “Oh sssstop being ssssuch a party poop!” Daphne hissed playfully as I, gladly, turned up the street where Lindsay lived. Aside from James’ sing song, the bike ride is uneventful, we all went different ways to our destination so as not to draw attention to ourselves. Killing the engine, I remove my helmet, watching as Brian did the same before following me up the front path. Carefully I gave the surrounding area a once over before knocking the door carefully, darting behind Brian, arms folded across my chest as I leant on one hip. The door opened to reveal a very frazzled Melanie, “Jesus Christ Brian! It’s 2-fucking-Am in the morning!” she barked, causing Brian to shuffle slightly, “I- uh…” I sigh, stepping round, “It’s all my fault Ms. Marcus, you see, Brian came to me concerning your sons disappearance”, I said, my voice formal and WASP-ish as I smiled, “May I see Ms. Peterson please?” Melanie blinked at me, before shaking her head and shrugging, “Fine…holy shit, what the hell!?” she squeaked and I spun round, only to see my group approaching us, “They’re my friends, they’re helping with the investigation”, I explain, letting her lead us in. ~~~~~~~~ Their living room is as I remember it, warm and inviting. Though the fact it’s filled with teens wearing black knocks it down a rung or two in the perfect home ladder. Melanie goes to fetch Lindsay as I wander past a few photos. Yes, there it is. Lindsay, who looks about 17 holding a toddler in her arms, with another standing at her feet. They all looked so happy. It was almost sickening. “May I help you?” Her voice is so frail, so lost sounding. I turn about, my blue eyes meeting hers as I offer a half smile, “Hey Linds…” I whisper, a gasp escaping her throat as she pushes past Brian, wrapping her arms round my neck tightly as my arms slide round her waist. My poor gang, plus Brian and Melanie look so confused. I feel her wet tears against my neck, my eyes tightly shut to stop my own. I never thought I’d ever see her again, especially when I was told she thought I was dead. She pulls back, her hands on my cheeks as she reaches up on tiptoes to kiss my forehead, “Justin…” I wince slightly, having not been called that in a long, long time before her hand connects with my cheek, causing my head to snap sideways and for my friends to jump, ready to protect me. “Where the FUCK have you been!?” she snaps harshly, glaring at me as I gingerly rubbed my cheek which I was sure would bruise, I shrug, “Around Linds, you know that…” Obviously that wasn’t the right answer as she slaps me again, “Jesus Lindsay! For an old woman you hit hard”, I tease, grabbing her wrist before it hit me, “But I’m still faster”. She stares at me, fresh tears in her eyes as she tackles me, knocking me back into the wall as I caught her, James snickering. “Jimmy?” Ha! He obviously wasn’t getting away as she leapt on his knee, clinging to him. “Lindsay, we’re not here for reunions. Me and Jimmy” I snickered, resulting in a cushion hitting my head at the use of his old nickname, “Are here to find Gus, do you have anything of his that Daphne could…smell?” Yes, even to me that sounded weird. Daph smelt the offered blanket, and nodded, heading for the door. Guess that was our cue? ~~~~~~~~ James groaned as he rubbed his neck where Lindsay had clung, “Why did I let you talk me into this?” he asked me as the front door shut. I just rolled my eyes, “If it was anyone else’s kid, I’d tell them to stuff it, but this is Gus, James, or have you forgotten?” He sighed, “How does Lindsay know you two?” Brian queried curiously as I looked at my brother, biting my lip before turning to him and shrugging. “Lindsay’s our big sister”
