significance behind the eyes

“Ellie Kravitz,” Carl murmurs to himself as he tacks the photo on the board. It didn’t make any sense. “I don’t get it,” Carl’s co-worker comments aloud, “That’s four deaths in less than eight hours… what’s the connection?” Cal shakes his head. He didn’t have a clue. “Hey, Hovarth, we picked up Kinney. He’s in room 4.” Officer Greenberg announces as he joins his co-workers. “And he’s not happy… downright pissed, actually.” “Thanks, Greenberg,” Carl sighs. Hopefully, Brian Kinney would be able to shed some light to why these four young men and women were dead, and why Justin appeared to be the next target. Walking slowly to the door, he can already hear Brian shouting. With a deep sigh, Carl opens door. Brian hits the glass in front of him, “What the fuck is wrong with you people?!” He shouts angrily, “Stop watching me and go find him! Or for fucks sake, let me go out and find him if you can’t do your fuckin’ job!” Clearing his throat, Carl asks, closing the door behind him, “Where do you think Justin might be?” Turning to Carl, Brian sneers, “It’s about fuckin’ time!” storming back to the table, he angrily sits down and demands, “Ask me whatever fuckin’ questions you want.” Checking his watch, he continues, “I’ve been sitting here for almost ten minutes, Hovarth! Ten fuckin’ minutes! What kind of office to you assholes run?” Slowly sitting down, Carl takes another cleansing breath, “Mr. Kinney,” he begins, placing a folder in front of him. “Who would want to kill Justin?” “I don’t know,” Brian answers between gritted teeth. “Is this going to take long?” Carl forces a smile, “Let’s hope not.” Brian doesn’t return the smile. “Ellie Kravitz.” “Who?” “The woman that was shot this morning,” he clarifies, “witnesses state that she was calling him by name as she was running through the traffic.” “I’ve never seen her before.” “And Justin never mentioned her?” “No.” Carl nods his head, “How about Michigan?” “What?” “Addison, Michigan actually.” “Never heard of it.” “It’s a small town. About only 630 people live there or so,” Carl explains. “What does this have to do with Justin?” Brian asks impatiently. “Ellie Kravitz lived in Addison. She arrived in Pittsburgh this morning and was murdered three hours later.” Brian frowns, “Justin has never mentioned Addison, Michigan or Ellie Kravitz.” “How about Reece Davis?” “No. What the fuck is this about?” Brian asks impatiently. Sighing, Carl cuts to the chase. “In the past eight hours, four people have been killed. We believe that the murders are connected, however are still trying to figure out how.” “Four dead in eight hours?” Brian is incredulous, “Are your people fuckin’ morons?” “Brian…” “How many more people have to die before your team figures it out?!” Brian demands, hitting the table in front of him, Opening the folder, Carl takes out the four photos of the deceased. “Reece Davis, Bea Flynn, Quinn Jones and Ellie Kravitz.” Scanning each photo carefully, Brian shakes his head. “I’ve never seen any of them.” “Look closely,” Carl persuades. “I am!” Brian bites back. Rubbing his forehead, Carl looks back at the photos. “Ellie is from Michigan, Quinn is from Virginia, and Bea is from New Jersey. The only one from Pittsburgh was Reece. Ellie, Quinn and Bea all arrived in Pittsburgh within hours from one another. Each died within an hour from each other… killed by the same kind of gun and bullet.” “What were they doing in Pittsburgh?” Brian asks quietly. Carl sighs. “We don’t know. They---” The door opens, “Hovarth?” Officer Maxwell steps in and waits by the door. “Excuse me for a moment,” Hovarth states as he stands up and walks over to his co-worker. Brian closes his eyes. This couldn’t be happening. Not in his most horrific dreams had he ever thought this could happen. He is pulled out of his thoughts by Carl’s whispered, “Shit.” Turning towards the door, Brian watches as Carl slowly makes his way back to the table. “What?” Brian asks, wanting to shake the man in front of him. “All four people had a phone number written on their bodies: either on their palm or on the inside of their wrist…. Only Ellie had a name with the number.” “Justin’s?” Brian asks hesitantly. “No.” “Who then?” “Cody Bell.”
