As soon as they had cleared the blades the medical team set to work. Doctor Malton led the team, “Get the crash cart!” she ordered. “Paddles!” “Charging,” one of the nurses told her as doctor Malton placed the defibrillator paddles on Justin’s chest, “Two hundred.” “Clear!” She said. Justin’s body jumped upwards as the electricity jolted through his lifeless body. “No change.” The nurse said carefully studying the monitors. “Let’s get him inside.” doctor Malton shouted after seeing for herself that there wasn’t a difference in Justin’s irregular heartbeat. She climbed on to the gurney and straddled Justin’s legs so that she could continue chest compressions as they rushed to the elevator. Brian followed along behind them hardly believing what was happening as he felt himself flinch every time he saw the doctor pump down on Justin’s chest. The elevator arrived at the E.R floor and the gurney was hurried though the corridors and in to the trauma room. “Let’s shock him again.” Doctor Malton said reaching for the paddles. “And give him point six of epi.” “Charging to two hundred,” a nurse informed her. The paddles were placed on Justin’s chest once more, “Clear!” Justin’s body jerked up from the gurney. Brian winced as he saw Justin jolt upwards as his torso was shocked with two hundred joules of electricity. He was comforted, however, when he noticed that the monitors had stopped beeping so incessantly. “I’ve got a faint pulse!” a nurse exclaimed. “We need warm saline, and lets get a CBC, lytes, blood gas and coags.” Doctor Malton told her team. More nurses and doctors bustled around Justin assessing the damage that the avalanche had done to his beautiful body. Brian felt relief wash over him as he saw that Justin’s heart had begun to beat at normal pace again. Brian staggered forward; he knew that he had to tell one of the doctors about Justin’s allergies. “Doc!” He called loudly, knowing that he had to be heard over all of the machines. “Sir,” another doctor came up behind him and tried to pull him back, “We have to take a look at you. Sir, please come with me.” “No!” Brian shouted, “You have to let me stay, please! Justin! He has allergies..!” Brian fought against the doctor’s grip around him, “I can’t leave him… You have to let me…” Brian’s eyes flickered shut and he felt himself collapse forward as the doctor kept a firm hold and lowered him gently to the floor. “Let’s get another gurney in here!” The doctor called as he placed two fingers on Brian’s neck to check his pulse. ”Justin!” Brian whimpered as he felt the darkness take over. He was quickly lifted up and placed on another gurney, as he became unconscious, the hypothermia and exhaustion finally taking over.
