Brian was unnerved by the feeling of deja vu he felt following the paramedics as they wheeled Justin in the emergency room. Brian was dazed by the similarities in what was happening now and what had happened not so long ago. "Are you a family member?" A nurse was asking Brian when Justin's gurney reached the trauma room. For a split second, Brian considered saying yes, but then shook his head in resignation. "I'm afraid you'll have to wait out here. Only family is allowed beyond these doors." Brian opened his mouth to protest then acquiesced knowing that it was useless to fight. He watched as Justin disappeared behind the double doors. He felt sick to his stomach as he pulled his cell phone out of his pocket and dialed Jennifer Taylor's phone number. It rang several times and Brian was just about to hang up when an out of breath Jennifer answered. "Hello?" "Jennifer." "Brian?" Jennifer said surprised. "This is a surprise." "Jennifer, I need you to stay calm." "Why? What's wrong? What’s happened?" "Justin's in the emergency room." "Oh my God." Jennifer gasped. "Why? What's wrong with him?" "I think Ethan beat him up." "Ethan? Brian, I don't understand." "I really don't want to go into this on the phone." "I'm on my way." Brian was just flipping his cell phone closed when a nurse walked up to him. "Sir?" She said. Brian turned toward her. "Are you with Mr. Taylor?" "Yes, I'm a friend. My name is Brian Kinney." "I need to ask you a couple of questions." She said as she consulted the chart in front of her. "Is Mr. Taylor allergic to any medications?" "Practically all of them." Brian said. He pulled a slip of paper out of his wallet and handed it to the nurse. "All of his med allergies are listed here." "Thank you." The nurse said and tucked the list into the chart. "I'll see you get it back." "Keep it." Brian said. "I have other copies." The nurse nodded then disappeared down the hall. For lack of anything else to do, Brian started to pace in front of the nurses station. He had just finished his umpteenth pass when his cell phone rang. "Hello?" "Brian?" "Lindsay?" "Brian did you forget about tuck-n-story?" "Oh, crap." "Nice Brian." "No, Lindsay. You don't understand." "I think I do. You just couldn't wait to go the Babylon or Woodys or the baths. I cannot believe you would blow off your son to fuck." "Lindz, will you let me finish, please." Lindsay huffed. "It's Justin, Lindz. He's in the emergency room." "What? Why?" "Ethan beat him up pretty badly. They won't let me back with him because I'm not family and I don't know if he's going to be alright and . . ." "Brian." Lindsay said interrupting Brian's ramblings. "Listen to me. Mel and I are on our way. Do you want me to call anyone?" "Deb." Brian said. "You have to call Deb. And, try to keep her calm. I know that's asking a lot, but just try, okay." "Okay." Lindsay agreed. "We'll pick her up on the way." Brian disconnected quickly and continued to pace again.
