"Daddy?" Brian heard Gus call him, but sleep refused to let him go right away. "Daddy?" Forcing his eyes open, Brian looked to see Gus standing at the door of the bedroom with his teddy bear clutched tightly to his chest. Brian smiled at his son. "What is it, Sonny-Boy?" Gus remained still, his eyes wide. Brian followed Gus' eyes and found that while he was completely covered by the sheet, Justin's ass was uncovered. He gently covered Justin and motioned Gus to the bed. "What's wrong, Gus?" Gus walked to his father's side of the bed and looked up at Brian. Brian saw that Gus was trembling. A sudden memory stormed through Brian's head. He had awakened one night from a bad dream and had gone to his parents' room. Jack Kinney had all but laughed at the then 6-year-old Brian for being afraid of a 'stupid dream'. Brian shook his head to clear it and then grabbed his boxers from the floor. He wiggled into them under the covers and then hauled Gus onto the bed with him. "I had a really bad dream, Daddy." Brian was more than a bit surprised. Gus rarely ever suffered from night terrors or bad dreams. Usually he slept so soundly, that the house could be carried away and he'd never hear it. Gus snuggled into Brian's neck. "What was this dream about?" Gus looked up at Brian with wide eyes and tear stained cheeks. His breathing quickened and Brian could feel the boy's heart pounding in his chest. "I dreamed that Momma and Mommy never came back." Brian smiled down at his son. Now it all made sense. Melanie and Lindsey had gone on a vacation to a B & B in Amish country for the week. Gus was not used to being away from them for this long. "Aw, baby boy. They'll be back. You know that. Nothing bad is going to happen." Gus buried his face in Brian chest and wrapped his arms around Brian's neck. "How about we go get your pillow and blankie, and you can sleep with Daddy and Justin tonight? Do you think that would help?" Gus nodded against Brian's shoulder. Brian turned to wake Justin who was already awake staring at him with sleepy eyes. "Looks like we're going to have company." Justin yawned and nodded. While Brian walked Gus back to his bed to get his pillow and blankie, Justin fumbled into his boxers and untangled the covers on the bed. Just as Justin lay back down, Brian and Gus returned. "Go on back to sleep, Babe. Gus and I'll be okay." Justin smiled, nodded and then snuggled back into his pillow. Brian knew that Justin had an early class in the morning. "Well, Sonny-Boy, climb on in there." Gus climbed into the bed and lay down on his pillow between Brian and Justin. Brian pulled the covers up over all of them. Gus nestled himself on to Brian's chest. Justin lay facing them laying his hand on Gus' side. "Now, let's all go back to sleep, okay. Tomorrow we'll call up your Momma and Mommy and you can see that everything is just fine. Okay?" Gus nodded against Brian's chest as he brushed the boy's hair out of his face. Before Brian closed his eyes, he looked over to Justin who was watching him through half opened lids. Brian laced his hand with Justin's and mouthed the words, 'Love you.' Justin smiled, squeezed Brian's hand and closed his eyes. In just a matter of minutes they were all sleeping soundly. The end.
